Tucked away on the peaceful Dorback Estate near Nethybridge, Drum Lodge is a spacious and luxurious conversion of a traditional stone steading transformed by renowned architect Lachlan Stewart and later refurbished in Summer 2025. With seven bedrooms, generous living spaces and views across the Dorback Burn and surrounding Cairngorms, it offers the perfect blend of comfort, style and Highland charm, ideal for large families or groups of friends looking to reconnect in nature.
Inside, the lodge feels welcoming and light-filled, with original features and thoughtful modern touches throughout. You are greeted by a large entrance hall, perfect for shaking off muddy boots after a day exploring the estate. The heart of the house is the open-plan living and dining area, a warm and social space designed for slow evenings and shared meals. A grand bow window embraces the landscape, its cushioned seats inviting you to linger over spectacular panoramic views of the Dorback Burn and Cairngorm Mountains beyond - an idyllic spot to savour morning coffee. The central fireplace is a striking feature, creating a cosy atmosphere that draws everyone together. Meals can be enjoyed at the large dining table, big enough for everyone to gather round in comfort whether it's a celebratory feast or a relaxed post-walk supper.
Below this, a snug room offers an inviting place to curl up with a film or a book, complete with a TV, open fireplace, and even a hearth seat. There's also a handy office space, should you need a quiet moment or a quick check-in with the outside world.
The well-equipped kitchen makes cooking a joy featuring a Rangemaster cooker, two dishwashers, a coffee machine, and plenty of space for prepping and chatting. The arched kitchen window frames a tranquil view of the burn, adding a touch of magic to every mealtime.
French doors from both the living space and bedroom corridor open into a peaceful central courtyard, a unique feature that brings natural light into the heart of the house. With outdoor seating and suntrap warmth on calm days, it's perfect for a morning coffee or evening G&T.
There is a fabulous sauna area, featuring a private, dedicated shower, which provides an indulgent retreat for relaxing and rejuvenating after a day on the trails.
Drum Lodge comfortably sleeps up to 15 guests across seven bedrooms. A few steps down from the main living area on the ground floor, you'll find five bedrooms, three of which have stylish double sink en-suites. Two of the rooms on this floor offer floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the duck pond, a peaceful view to wake up to. A large family bathroom with bath, separate shower, and double sinks provides additional space for guests.
Upstairs, you'll find a fun chill-out zone with TV and play space, perfect for younger guests along with two unique bedrooms, one with three custom-built cabin beds and en-suite and the other with two cabin beds and en-suite. While the space is designed with younger guests in mind, the custom-built beds are full-sized singles and can fit adults as well.
Drum Lodge is set within well-maintained gardens that surround the house, offering stunning views of the Dorback Burn and the distant Cairngorm Mountains. A charming duck pond sits on the lawn, home to a few resident ducks, and it's not uncommon to spot red squirrels, deer, or birds of prey passing through.
This is more than just a place to stay, it's a place to gather, unwind, and reconnect with the natural world. Whether you're exploring the wilds of the Cairngorms or simply enjoying the firelight with family and friends, this special Highland lodge invites you to slow down and stay awhile.

Stunning location, excellent property, wish I could live here!!!!
Arrived at the property, which was a breath taking setting, The property was warm and of a very high standard. Everything you needed was catered for and more.
This is the best place we have stayed in and none of the family wanted to go home. What more can you say other than thank you and if you need any staff to manage the estate or properties, would be willing to relocate from Suffolk. Many thanks for memorably stay.

Stunning house in stunning location
This house exceeded all expectations. It has so much space, character and charm. We recently stayed for a multi-generational family gathering, and this house was perfect for all. Peaceful places to sit, large kitchen and dining areas for meals, snugs and playroom upstairs for the kids, and huge green space to run around outside, surrounded by the rolling hills and nearby river. Everything was clean and well maintained. Decent value for money when calculating price per person per night.

A perfect holiday
We had a 3 generation family holiday at this lovely lodge. It was by far the best house we have ever stayed.
The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms beautiful.
Kitchen well equipped and huge! Public areas large and plenty areas for children to play and adults to chat.
2 cute children’s bedrooms sleep 5 kids/ teens upstairs with playroom and tv.
The garden was very well tended and great lawns for football and play. The roses were magnificent.
Gillian and Bryce were very attentive when there was a wee problem, sorted immediately.
The basket of vegetables from the garden on our arrival was wonderful.
The views from the sitting room were magnificent and lovely walks available.

Perfect house for special family occasion
We have recently returned from a very special weekend celebrating a big birthday. Drum lodge is even more beautiful than the photos and although luxurious throughout it still made for a very relaxing family dog friendly stay.
All the bedrooms and bathrooms are decorated with opulence so everyone experienced the same standard. The very family friendly area upstairs was ideal for our group and although cabin beds they were also suitable for adults.
We didn’t have any issues as such but when we contacted the caretakers they responded straight away and helped us out.
Thank you to everyone involved for a very memorable stay. Drum lodge really is a very special place.

Excellent venue for birthday celebrations
We attended Drum Lodge to celebrate our Dad's 80th birthday.
The lodge was excellent. With a mixed age range from 80 to 3yrs, the property was perfect.
All the facilities, bedrooms, kids play area, fireplaces, kitchen, seating areas were great. Our only comment would be to provide some plastic (child friendly) plates etc as the stone floors could cause breakages for the little ones
The indoor BBQ was not available to use which was a disappointment but the other kitchen facilities enabled us to adjust our plans.
Overall, could not fault the whole place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends and family.

Stunning house in a stunning location.
We were a three generation family on holiday and this house is unbeatable in its design and decor. Spacious, comfortable, with everything you can want for a stay. We were all sad to leave as one week was not enough time! The beds are very comfortable and the ensuite bathrooms lovely. The children’s area upstairs is brilliant and the children loved it. The kitchen is spacious and very well equipped with a great size table. The log fire is a great focal point and we were glad the weather was cold enough at the end of the week to use it! It has marvellous views.
It has a long drive and so a little distance from Nethybridge but then you are rewarded by the joy of feeling the wilderness of the Cairngorms.
On top of this, Gillian and Bryce who looked after us when we needed help with a couple of things were so helpful and cheery. A big thank you to them.

Thank you so much for your fantastic review, we are delighted your family holiday was such a success and everyone enjoyed their stay at Drum Lodge.
One of the things guests love most about the property is its unique location. While it’s just a short distance from Nethy Bridge, the peaceful setting and sense of wilderness really does make it a truly special place.
Thank you too for your kind words about Gillian and Bryce, we'll be sure to pass on your compliments.
We really appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you and your family back for a longer stay in the future!

A place to make memories
Brilliant location in the foothills of the cairngorms. Great for a family holiday or gathering. It's was renovated and updated for an owner with plenty of money and the quality shows. Huge well equipped kitchen - even has an indoor bbq (which is tricky given the smoke detector) It was well prepared, nice package of local stuff to get us going - we had 11 adults and four teenagers (and 2 dogs) and there was enough room for us not to feel crowded. the central courtyard would be great in summer - we were there over Christmas with magical views from the living area of a frosty highland glen - telescope included. A few technical glitches but nothing serious - not cheap but memorable, photogenic and special.

Superb property in so many respects, but a free nighles
Outrageously opulent property with high end finishes, linen, amenities etc. We’re a group of 8 retired friends who annually rent in the highlands and this is the best we’ve had. It’s expensive but you get what you pay for.
However, it could be improved further as it has superb views but the hedges have been allowed to grow un trimmed and obscure the views, namely in the kitchen and especially in the main semi circulate lounge. Also there is some heavy garden furniture plonked in the car parking area rather than on the lawns by the pond, and they need some cushions to be commensurate with the quality of the place.
But the most annoying aspect is the smallest and cheapest to correct. Cleaning and washing up materials are supplied but inexplicably no dish clothes are supplied. So on day 1 you can cook and wash up but you can’t clean the surfaces or spillages until you’ve been to the shops on day 2! On querying this we were told it was deliberate!
How does this make sense in a £4k pw rental for a 99p dish cloth? It’s a similar story with the bin bags; there are some in the bins but that’s it, so don’t make too much rubbish before you’ve been to the shops.
