Such a beautiful place to stay and perfectly located about 1 block from the old downtown area with many places to eat drink and shop. The home it self is perfect! Decorated to time period with many nice up grades. Plenty of room inside and a lovely porch to have an evening drink and morning coffee on. Comfy beds, nice kitchen nook with fridge sink and small area to prepare food/snacks.
Lovely little apartment in a perfect location for anyone wanting to enjoy downtown Nevada City. The host was very thoughtful, providing seasonal touches and amenities. Will definitely consider this property again when visiting family in Nevada City.

Thank you.
Our stay at this house was wonderful. The owner Darby was so nice. The house is right near the shops and restaurants in downtown Nevada City and perfect for some shopping and dining out.

Wonderful guests! Welcome back anytime! Thank you! :)
We love to travel over the mountain and visit the two towns - Grass Valley and Nevada City for wine, shops, food. Great location as it is easy to get to and from. Only draw down is the highway noise and parking situation. Clean, quiet (inside) and a doggy or two to play with if desired. Will visit again.
This is a cozy unit located truly steps to downtown Nevada City. The host is friendly and helpful, and the unit itself has everything you need for a wonderful long weekend in Gold Country. We’ll be back!
The problem with checking happened because I had to use the VRBO app on my phone. I didn’t know that because I’d used my computer (not phone) to register, pay, etc., and communicated via email. It would have been SO much easier if the number to open the door could have been texted or emailed, especially because I wasn’t informed that I would need to use the VRBO app. Also, when we couldn’t get in, there was no way to reach the landlord or VRBO. We almost went to Grass Valley to find a place to stay. Once we go into the house, it was a wonderful experience!
Perfectly located for downtown strolls, food, meeting people for wedding, nice hike and enjoyed the train museum. Charming home. We didn’t have a car so parking not an issue. Would definitely stay again!
Location couldn't have been better - quick steps from all the restaurants and stores in town. Everything was spotless and comfortable. It worked well for my husband, me and my 13 yo daughter for a few days. Please note that there isn't a shared common space but that was fine for us because we were out and about with family. We loved being able to step out and grab coffee in the morning and explore the town. Would stay here again next trip!
Cute and cozy property, perfect for my sister and I. It was close to the highways, a decent price, stayed cool during very hot weather, also very quiet. I was surprised at the size of the tiny kitchen but it had everything we needed. I wasn't expecting to walk through the front door into a bedroom but it worked out fine. We would stay again.
It may look like a poor location near Hwy 49 but really wasn't an issue. The apartment is snug but very manageable and comfortable. Sitting on the deck in the morning with coffee was a pleasant experience. Walking to the restaurants in NV was simple and the Farmers Market on Saturday was a plus. Will mark this for next years Horse Show for sure.
Loved staying at Darby’s epic multi-use Victorian in the heart of town. The 2-“bedroom” setup was great for our 2-year old to sleep in her own room while we could hang in the main room. The kitchenette is literally in a closet but it had all the amenities we needed! Fully stocked, even with a nice sharp knife and cutting board for the win! We borrowed a gate from local friends in town to put on the deck to block the stairs so we could leave the door open and our toddler could hang outside. It was cozy all around and we would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Darby is a wonderful host. Property was clean and very spacious for the two of us. Could have easily accommodated two more people. Very clean and so close to historic Nevada City, everything was within walking distance. White noise machines were included to mask highway traffic, street traffic and local church chimes/bells. Air conditioning was much appreciated after spending long days in the sun. Street parking was not an issue. Overall, great stay!

About the host
Hosted by Darby Palmer
I'm born & raised in Wyoming & have been living in California for 18 years now. I run my day spa out of most of it & my apartment is attached to the opposite wing. My sweet dog, Prince, is a happy little guy that you might see in the backyard during your stay playing w/his sweet sister, Dazy. Both of my dogs are super friendly even though they might try & bark to say hi. Feel free to hang in the backyard w/them, but please always make sure the gate is closed & locked so they don’t escape! And, please don’t let them in the rental because they shed. I offer a 10% discount for spa services for guests & specialize in massage & skincare. When I'm not working I enjoy snowboarding, dancing, paddle boarding, roller skating, traveling & soaking in the river.
Why they chose this property
I was drawn to this property when I was looking for a place to reopen my spa. It was destiny & I am honored this building chose me! I’ve occupied it since 2014.
What makes this property unique
It is an old historic 150 yr old Victorian right downtown Nevada City just seconds away from everything this cute little town has to offer. Before this Historic Hatfield House was built on this land, The Episcopal Trinity Church was first built here and burned down. The Trinity church was then built again across the way and burned down for a 2nd time! The Trinity Church that can be seen from Coyote Street Studio across the way was literally built 3 times!
