About this property
Family friendly Cotswold retreat, full of character, local attractions close by
Waterton Stables is an old house, full of character, having been the stable block/groom's cottage for the large manor house nearby, now converted into two dwellings - the 'cottage' for guests which is attached to the 'stables' end of the house where the owners live full-time. The interior is well furnished and comfortable, and has a unique character. Please note, it is not a 'modern' space, this would not reflect it's age or character, but we hope the photos provide an adequate reflection of this.
It is approached by a long drive, with fields on either side, leading to a large courtyard with ample space for parking.
Upstairs, the attached guest cottage has 1 double bedroom, 1 twin and a single bedroom. There is also a bathroom with shower and bath, and a separate wc. Downstairs is an entrance hall, sitting room with large flat screen TV, a dining area and kitchen overlooking the garden. There is also a utility room with washer, dryer, wc and shower.
Outside there are table and chairs, and 2 loungers for guests' use. There is also a swimming pool which can only be used at the owner's discretion; it is very close to the owner's end of the house, so we ask that guests use it for a short time, once or twice a day depending on weather and other use.
The local pub is a 5 minute walk away, and is perfect for an evening meal if you prefer to walk rather than drive. There are many wonderful pubs nearby, many with excellent food, and gardens with view for lovely summer suppers or cosy interiors with roaring fires. There are also many beautiful towns, villages and gardens to visit, and South Cerney, only 2 miles away, is great for swims, boating, etc.. It's a wonderful area for a break.

About the host
Hosted by Gillie
We are a family of 4, but our 2 children now live and work in London which is why we decided to open up the house to visitors. It has been wonderful meeting a huge variety of people, from many different countries.
Why they chose this property
The house is full of character and was converted to a house (from a groom's cottage plus stables) at least 30 years ago. Cotswold houses were built with small windows to keep in the warmth but the windows here are large and numerous so it is a light bright house, cool in the summer but warm in the winters. The garden is well maintained and guests have an area immediately outside the kitchen to sit and enjoy the views with a glass of wine on warm summer evenings. There is plenty of peace and privacy.
It is an area of outstanding beauty, with pretty villages, beautiful stone houses and lovely market towns.

What makes this property unique
The house has an unusual layout, good sized rooms, beautiful stonework and a unique character. It is old and this is reflected throughout. We have the benefit of the original courtyard, once large enough for horses and carriages, now giving us ample space for parking for both us and our visitors. We look out on fields, are very private and yet only 3 miles from the lovely market town of Cirencester.
