We are located 7 miles west of downtown Custer, SD. Watch the deer, jack rabbits, elk, and coyotes from your front porch, hike miles of trails from your front door for a day of exploring! We are Hell Canyon Horse Camp. We're close to Jewel Cave, Bear Mountain, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Bismarck Lake, Hill City, Hot Springs, and Mt Rushmore to name a to see and do here!

This is on me I'd say, because maybe the listing says so. But, there is no AC in the studio unit. The other two larger cabins had window units, but the smaller one does not. I also don't think it's typically as hot in the Black Hills as it was when I was there. It was blazing. Sleeping at night was fine, but during the day I couldn't do any hanging out. My only real gripe was the mini fridge is loud. It works, so this is me being whiny, but I'd say it's struggling. Otherwise, it was close to town and quiet and beautiful! They were very kind to me, and I don't have anything but praise for the people you will meet!

We enjoyed the atmosphere, proximity to all attractions and and the cleanliness of the facility. Ownership is friendly and the location is very quiet and relaxing.

Quiet and comfortable home base

Hell Canyon Ranch was exactly what I was looking for- a place that would be quiet and comfortable with relatively easy access to Custer State Park and Black Hills National Forest hiking trails. This cabin is far enough out of Custer to avoid the typical tourist din, while close enough to take those day trips to spots in the mid to southern hills area or to eat in Custer.

We stayed at Hell Canyon Horse Camp. Lisa was very helpful. I have never met a nicer bunch of people while on vacation. I would definitely stay with them again. Thank you so much 💓 💗 💛

Great stay overall

Great little place out of the way! Very clean and comfortable. Only things that could be better were the small timeframe of check in required a change of plans to accommodate, and there's seemingly a community bathroom attached to the tiny cabin you're staying in that a heads up about would've been nice for, as it does sound like someone is getting into your cabin when they use it. Makes it feel a little less private but we did get used to it.

Beautiful and peaceful getaway

The cabin itself is in a beautiful and peaceful spot. It was clean and organized. The property manager replied very quickly to my questions via messages. The one thing that confused me was the office was closed when I tried to check out, but the property manager quickly responded to my question about where to leave the key before I left. Overall a comfortable place to stay. It's also located fairly close to both Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore, though it's about an hour from Rapid City, which might be annoying depending on where you're planning to go during the day.

Peaceful cozy cakn

Cabin was so cute. Nothing large but clean and comfortable. Located out of town. So dark the sky is gorgeous! Loved seeing the horses out the window in the morning. Owners were super helpful and sweet and so was Cooper the welcome doggo!

Nice & quiet!

Nice clean little cabin & was perfect for our stay. I did wish I would have known that cell signal & internet was non-existent. It was not a big deal, but I would have brought a book with me.

We enjoyed our stay at Hell’s Canyon Horse Camp! Close to downtown Custer but far enough from town to be very quiet and relaxing! Would absolutely stay there again.

Custer South Dakota Cabin

Overall it was a good experience. I did not know we were staying at a horse ranch which wasn't a big deal. I would have liked for the property manager to have given me a little more direction on check in procedures. Also internet was not good in the cabin ok when I went outside. We were gone alot so not a big deal. Property manager was very good about replying to my emails. If poor internet is not an issue then I would recommend this property. Small, but clean and convenient.
