There was no host. We arrived at check in time, 4 p.m. and the cleaners were still at work for a half hour, making check-in time awkward. But we LOVED the cabin, but would like a little more flexibility for the check-in and check-out hours. It is a beautiful place and once a year take the children for fun and snow as a Christmas present. Even though we were rained out one day and jig saw puzzles, card games, and board games, it was delightful. Please keep me on your list.

We have stayed in Tahoe Donner several times, but never had an experience with an owner quite like this one. Her handyman showed up with his dog while we were gone (enjoying time with our family on the river) and then she started to call me and leave me messages asking who the person with the latter was that was seen on her cameras and then telling me that she was going to charge us becuase we broke the rules by having a dog on the property!!! It was bizarre, rude, uncalled for, and will definitely pass on this house in the future.

The home is very nice and very well stocked with all kitchen/cooking supplies, as well as paper products and bedding. There are just a couple of things that I feel like I want to share. One thing is that there are a lot of stairs - three actual levels and a substantial set of stairs required to enter the house from ground level. I don’t feel like that was very well explained in the property description. The second thing that was concerning is that while, there were a ton of amenities mentioned, it was not abundantly clear that none of the amenities were actually on the property site. They were about 3 or 4 miles from the property. Apparently the owners are members of a resort that allows them and their clients to have use of the amenities, for a fee. We had a rainy and thunderstormy weekend, making spending the day at the lake unreasonable so some of my family did go to the pool and enjoyed it. It would be nice if this property had, at least, a hot tub that could be enjoyed without having to leave and then have to share with people they don’t know. I would recommend this VRBO to friends but would make sure they were fully aware of the items I’ve mentioned. In retrospect, I think in a very subtle way, the amenities were mentioned in such a way that you could conclude that they were not on site. But at first glance, the property and amenities description did not make it very clear to us. As mentioned before, I would recommend this property with noted details.

Family snow trip

We stayed at Joanne’s place with our kids and some cousins and aunts and uncles. It absolutely dumped snow but the house was cozy and had all the things we needed to dig out the driveway. The kids had so much fun playing in the backyard. The kitchen was equipped with everything! Spices, coffee maker and filters, loads of pots and pans, and plenty of dishes and glasses. No plastic or kid cups so if you’re worried about kids dropping and breaking things you may want to bring your own. Our kids did great though! There are also plenty of baby gates to block the stairs and fireplace for those who come with little roamers. Joanne was easy to communicate with and quick to help with any issue you may encounter. Beds were comfortable with lots of pillow options so if you’re particular like my husband, you should be able to find one that works for you. Overall great stay and would recommend it for families.

Awesome family time

We were in town for a family wedding in Lake Tahoe. This cabin had everything we needed and then some! We had 3 generations and 8 people in total staying. It was plenty of room for everyone to visit and have their own time when needed. The area is gorgeous. Would love to come back!

Great place to stay

We held our family reunion at the house. Plenty of room for adults and kiddos. There is a trail right behind the house for hiking and exploring. It’s about 15 minutes to town which is makes it tough for a quick trip to get coffee but other than that, it was perfect.

Lovely Place

Joanne is very communicative and helpful. Cabin is on three levels and is very nice, clean and comfortable and in a great location. A couple of very minor bathroom fixes were needed but owner was quick to get handyman there. Kitchen has many nice features however not equipped with any spices or extras.. Wonderful house, great location, amazing host

My family had a fantastic stay at Joanne's Tahoe Donner house. The house was very clean and well-stocked. Joanne was extremely communicative and flexible - she graciously extended our stay and offered early check-in. We stayed during the March blizzard, and Joanne sent us Tahoe Donner Association guidance for power outages and other information to keep us safe and happy. Luckily we did not loose power and the driveway & street were plowed every morning. The house is roomy with plenty of beds. Tahoe Donner ski resort is very close (0.5 miles) and the cross-country resort is out the back door. The house has several natural gas fireplaces which lends it a cozy, mountain feel. Would stay there again. Thanks Joanne!

About the host

We provide excellent customer service and we are very precise and detailed in our process of taking reservations, collecting payments, providing confirmations, emailing information, directions, and the door code, returning damage deposits, and quickly solving problems if they occur during a stay. We are always easy to reach both by phone and by email. We want your vacation to be very enjoyable and a time you will remember for a long time.

Why they chose this property

We honeymooned in a mountain home in the Sierras, and wanted to keep that feeling alive. Every year we rented homes until we decided to build our own in a manner perfect for vacationers. We wanted plenty of bathrooms and we wanted the bathrooms to be able to accommodate people at the sinks while other are in the toilet/shower area. We wanted a large counter top for serving food in the kitchen/dining area with bar stools and a large eating area. We wanted a TV area with comfortable seating for many and the ability to watch TV from the kitchen/dining room. We wanted fast wireless internet throughout, an area where kids can play games away from the adults if they desired. We wanted very comfortable beds, two master bedrooms, a bedroom with a fireplace, a big garage, and parking area in the driveway for several vehicles. We wanted large decks for outdoor living with views of mountains and forestry. We chose this location and built this home to fulfill all these wants and more.

What makes this property unique

In the Spring, Summer and Fall we love sitting on the large deck in the back with the large pine trees, views of the forested mountain, and spectacular sunsets. We love the Pine ceilings and looking at the trees through the windows. We also love that our place is in a mountain wonderland with great hiking trails right out the back and very few automobiles and people; and yet is is only a few short miles from swimming/water sports, golf, tennis, and shopping.

In the Winter we love that we can xcountry ski right out of our garage onto Tahoe Donner's great trail system and we can walk just one mile to the Tahoe Donner downhill ski area that is inexpensive and great for beginners. We also love that we can drive only 20 minutes to any of the best ski areas: North Star, Palisades, Everline, Alpine, and Sugar Bowl. We also love the cozy gas fireplaces that provide lots of heat, are thermostatically controlled, and yet look like wood burning fireplaces.
