This is such a great place to stay when visiting the area. We spent allot of time in Black Mountain and Montreat because my husband went to college there, but might just come back and stay in or around the cabin. Our kids loved the creek and hot tub. We also enjoyed a hike and had friends over to grill. Everything is just right to have a great family weekend.
This cottage was perfect the gurgling creek was so peaceful. Perfectly located for a day trip to chimney rock and then a cruise on the blue ridge parkway the next day.
The pictures of the cottage does noy do it justice. It is absolutely beautiful! My family enjoyed playing in the creek, lounging in the hot tub, and just sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee listening to the creek. The beds were also comfortable. All the little extras were just amazing. Highly recommend!
Had a great stay. The owner has done a great job at stocking the house even down to buying quality silverware. Her attention to details is much appreciated.
Delightful experience. Beautiful property. Loved the creek and hot tub. Great location. Close to hiking and easy drives to Black Mountain and Asheville.
This property - as well as the host - by far exceeded all expectations. We had so much fun and enjoyed all the details, big and small. We will definitely be back!
We enjoyed this property so much! The house is immaculate. The setting beside the running stream was so relaxing. We loved sitting on the porch in the swing and rocking chairs. The host was very responsive to our check in and out needs. It was perfect, we will be back!
Our family had a great stay! The house was spacious, clean, and welcoming, and Ellen was very communicative and accommodating. Old Fort was a great location for us to be able to explore different areas like Asheville, Black Mountain/Montreat, and the Lake James area. We loved having a fire pit and a deck next to the water, too. We hope to be back!
5-star stay from top to bottom. Great location, perfect host, awesome house - old farmhouse feel, cozy, but nicely updated and laid out well. Great room and hot tub overlook babbling creek, bank of rhododendron and patio with grill and fire pit. There are lots of nearby hiking/biking trails, shops in Black Mountain and local grocery and taverns. We loved it!
Jarrett Creek Cottage is delightful. It is beautifully appointed, well equipped, very clean and Ellen, the owner, was very friendly and responsive. We couldn't have asked for more. My 4 children had a blast playing in the creek and exploring the adjacent acreage. If we return to the area, we would absolutely stay there again and highly recommend it for families.
We had a great time at Jarrett cottage! The house is well-stocked, clean, and so cozy. Ellen, the host, is very responsive and made us feel very welcome. The creek next to the house is amazing - our kids had so much fun playing by it. We found it very easy to go to Black Mountain and Asheville from the house. I would definitely rent this house again!
We have stayed at many VBROs and this one had to be the best stocked and comfortable! Coffee, tea, spices, paper products, soap and shampoos all provided! Owner extremely responsive and so helpful! Very comfortable beds and furniture. Old fort is a small but cute town. We preferred location over hectic Asheville. We will come back!
This home is nothing less than perfection. It was cozy, clean, comfortable and just a dream. We are already planning our next trip. We even left 3 jackets in the closet and the owner shipped them to us. So responsive and kind.
A wonderful time in a beautiful, “feels like home” cottage in the country, with a babbling creek right out the door to explore! A great location to drive to waterfalls, caverns, hikes, shopping, dining, and other fun adventures. To top it off, the kindest host you will meet - helpful, responsive, and gracious. I know you will love your time at the cottage just as much as our family of five did! Thank you Ellen!
If you're thinking of staying somewhere else in this area don't. This place is absolutely amazing, and so peaceful. Ellen (the host) is the best host I've ever had. She was so helpful and accommodating. I stayed here with my girlfriend and sister and they both absolutely loved it. It borders a bunch of trails and some small towns that are great to visit. Both Hillmans brewery and Whaleys are great. Definitely visit Black Mountain, coolest little mountain town around. We will definitely be back.
Our host, Ellen, should teach classes on how to host for Vrbo! The whole weekend was perfect because Ellen has literally thought of everything. There was absolutely nothing we needed because she had it all right there. The property is beautiful and the town and surrounding areas were very welcoming. She checked in with us to make sure we got their safely and provided a whole coffee bar and snacks. The house was very clean and the beds were very comfortable! This will be our new home away from home vacation spot. I can’t wait to bring my kids in the fall! Thank you Ellen!
If your looking for a little piece of mountain paradise this is the place! The pictures do not do this beautiful cottage any justice, from the location to the esthetic of the cottage it’s a little piece of heaven. House was extremely clean, the hot tub was amazing, and the creek beside the cottage is out of this world, I could have sat there for hours listening to the water. The host was amazing and so helpful if we had any questions. Our kids didn’t want to leave! Location was also amazing your a mike from downtown Old Fort where there are restaurants and museums and beautiful scenery. Don’t hesitate to stay at this cottage!
First off, the house is fantastic. The photos don’t really give you the full picture on how clean and well designed it is. Plus it had the extra amenities I didn’t think we would need when searching but used (like dishes, laundry, extra towels, cable, Wi-Fi). The house is a short drive to the town of old fort which in my mind is a hidden gem and should be visited. Even though you are next to some houses and off a main road it still feels very secluded. I would absolutely recommend both the city and house.
This was by far one of the most enjoyable and positive experiences with VRBO we have had!! Amazing property— the creek is spectacular for young children to play in and it’s just steps from the back deck so adults can still supervise easily. Our family (2 adults and 2 kids ages 5&8) stayed here along with another couple who have kids is similar ages and they had a BLAST at the creek. Gave us adults some great quality time bc they were able to be entertained independently and outside the whole weekend. Fabulous cabin with great finishing touches and amenities. Host, Ellen, is the sweetest and very responsive.
Thanks so much for hosting this beautiful weekend.
We booked this property for a last minute weekend getaway to relax and to run a work errand in a neighboring town on our way home. Could not have been more pleased! Ellen was super. The house was clean and fresh. We have stayed in lots of rentals over the years and this one is the best equipped. There is so much obvious care put into the furnishings and amenities. Also, once you are in the house/backyard, it feels like you are in a remote location but are only minutes from food, gas, and I-40. Thanks for sharing this home!
We met up with another couple with small children for a long weekend and had a wonderful time! The house is charming in every way AND child friendly! Ellen has a pack n play, foldable crib, and high chair available, as well as small children’s toys and some Lego books that were a huge hit with my son. Having two primary bedrooms was also a big draw for us and worked great for a two family vacation.
Being next to the creek was so relaxing and the hot tub was perfect. It was also very nice to be so close to Old Fort for dinner, ice cream, and groceries. I wish we could have stayed for a week! We’ll be back!
Our stay at Jarrett Creek Cottage was absolutely fabulous! The house is beautifully decorated and was supplied with everything our family needed for entertainment (hot tub, games, movies, books/magazines, smart TVs) and convenience (fully stocked kitchen, linens/towels, toiletries, hair dryers, paper goods and detergents). Ellen, the host, was wonderful in her communication and offerings, but completely respectful of our privacy. Upon our arrival, we were welcomed with freshly-cut flowers and snacks in celebration of our kids' college graduations and 21st birthday. The gorgeous property overlooks a creek and is conveniently located 1 mile from downtown Old Fort, 25 minutes from Asheville and 10 minutes from Black Mountain (an adorable town that is now a family favorite). This vacation home provided all that we had hoped for...and we would DEFINITELY stay here again!!!
This cottage and weekend was an absolute dream!
I planned this engagement weekend, and the cottage was at the heart of the plan. As soon as I let Ellen know of my plan to surprise my lady, she was all in. She went above and beyond to make this an unforgettable experience!
We all drove up in groups from GA, and were amazed the moment we saw the cottage. The creek soothed the soul instantly and the trees provided endless comfort and privacy.
The cottage had plenty of space for the 8 of us, everyone agreed each room was elegant and clean as a whistle. Our first night we relaxed and forgot all our worries as we got in the hot tub and enjoyed a few snacks that Ellen was kind enough to leave out.
On the following day we went Horse back riding, and I proposed to the love of my life! And with the cottage being so well located, it was an easy and breath taking drive through the autumn mountains.
Then we drove back to the cottage where our families were waiting to surprise her again!
We had lunch and celebrated. We took engagement pictures by the creek, as well as group photos with our friends and family. Ellen even left us a table and additional seats for our guests. The cottage was filled with love and laughter!
We ended the night again with the stress relieving hot tub, which is massive, and was exactly as described. The weekend was perfect. The proposal was perfect. Containing the happiest day of our lives. All thanks to Ellen and her cottage.
I HIGHLY recommend! And can’t wait for our anniversary trip!

Thank you for visiting my page. My husband and I have lived in this area for over two decades enjoying the trails, rivers, rocks, and restaurants. The picture above is of my daughter and me on the Nantahala River with NOC. I am as overcome with the beauty of this area today as I was when I first visited. I come from a large household with four sisters and love cooking for large groups of friends and family. Hosting groups for fun vacations or restful getaways feels like an extension of hosting family. I hope that I can help provide the opportunity for folks to fall in love with this area just as I have.
Why they chose this property
Jarrett Creek Cottage is a special property. We have lived next door for almost 10 years and were thrilled to have the opportunity to buy it from the previous owners- it has been in their family for over 100 years. It was recently totally gutted and rebuilt with the same cottage feel and upgraded amenities. It has 3 bedrooms, including two king beds and four twin beds, and a pull-out sleeper sofa.
What makes this property unique
Guests of Jarrett Creek will have access to the adjacent Camp Grier property: over 700 acres of private land with a lake, trails, horses, waterfalls and so much more. You will be so glad you chose Jarrett Creek Cottage and come again and again.
