Spacious, solid home with great views of the Hudson. Host made us feel like we were visiting relatives (in the best way!). We will definitely be renting this property again- highly recommend!!

My family and I came from NYC and stayed here while visiting for a local event. The house was perfect for us and as a bonus had awesome view of the Hudson River.

We stayed here while attending the Rhinebeck Sheep & Wool festival (about 20 min drive). The house was perfect for us. Spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the view of the Hudson and occasional passing boat. Host was kind, prompt, and informative about the place. Very nice to have an in-person check in!
We wanted to explore Ulster County and this part of the Hudson. We were charmed by the easy- going pace, the outdoors and people- friendliness. The house is charming with many pieces and features of an earlier time period.

Thanks for your stay, Alexandra. You and your friend were a pleasue to meet and to host. You are welcome back any time.
The property owner Gaetana welcomed us on a snowy winter evening. She lives a couple blocks from the property, which happens to be her childhood home, and still weathered the cold and snow to welcome us with cheer and enthusiasm. She is absolutely lovely. The house has some beautiful antiques and a very comfy bed. The central location allowed us to explore West Point, Rhinebeck, Woodstock and Saugerties all over one weekend. Loved it!
Conveniently located to both West and East of Hudson sites
The home was old yet quaint and this was the owner's childhood home which was evident in the many large and small items throughout this home. The only bathroom was up steep stairs with non functioning stairlift taking up some staircase space. Suggest adding powder room downstairs, if feasible. As well as take out stairlift. The location of the home was ideal for our planned and unplanned activities. Neighborhood friendly and safe.

Thank you, Fran for staying at my BnB and for your critique. I'm disappointed to hear the word "old" used in what sounds negative.
The description on the website states the house was built in 1940. Homes that are well cared for, as mine is, do not show their age but rather the period of architecture and period furnishings which are all very comfortable and not in any disrepair I advised against using the chairlift in the rare event of a malfunction. You did not say that you had limitations on ambulating and indeed neither you nor your friend showed or mentioned any limitations when I walked you through the house. The lift is not advertised on my site and it is not there for guest use but only for family use.
I hope you enjoyed the 20 % off promotional special you received on your stay.
Great location for hiking Falling Waters Preserve (loved it!) and Saugerties for some great restaurants (Salt & Fire and Avenue Steakhouse). The house was not quite up to the standard we're used to for the price. The upstairs was generally quite nice and very clean. Tho as another visitor mentioned there's a non-working electric chair that takes up so much of the stairs that it was difficult for this 60-year old to carry her suitcase up. The view of the lake from the bathroom and one bedroom is outstanding, tho from the listing we thought the property was ON the river (it's not). Sheets were nubby flannel and quite uncomfortable. Odd little signs were taped everywhere including on each window: "Don't press on screen or you might fall out," LOL. We basically used the home for sleeping so it was fine but nothing special.

Response from VrboOwner on 27 Nov 2023
The most disturbing part of Diana's stay was the fact that she left a large window wide open and the thermostat on high in the cold November weather causing the waste of precious heating fuel.
At first I preferred not to be critical about it preferring to not make an issue of it however as I proceeded to clean the house I found small rather annoying things had been changed. Lots of extra communication needed about discounts that VrBO (not the host) offers even though she was receiving an additional 15% discount on the second night which I offer as a host. Upon arrival she chose not to do the walk through of the house and property with me stating she did not want to remove her boots to go through the house.. The house itself is located 100 average steps from the river but of course not literally on the river. She removed the notes in the house of which there were very few ( some even requred by the buidling insoector.) thus I had to re-ceate them. The note she refers to about not leaning on the screens is there to protect young children and are only 2"x4" in the lower corner of the second floor window. The lift chair which she refers to is turned off to prevent any guest mishaps but is useful for handicapped family member visits and takes up a very small part of the staircase and is low enough to allow one to slide their suitcases on it. From November though March high quality cozy flannel sheets are the default choice for winter bedding, however I would easily have changed them to cotton sheets if Diana requested thejm. As I told her and all my guests. "I live 2 blocks away so contact me if you have any questions or problems." If it is not already on my property description I will add a choice of sheets.
Unfortunately her action leaving the window open makes hosts like myself wonder if we eally want to share our precious properties, and then we have to remember the 99% guests who are thoughtful, respectful and appreciative.
Great 2 bedroom house overlooking the Hudson River, in Glasco NY which abuts Saugerties to the south. We often travel to the area, to do hiking and biking stuff usually, and its a perfectly nice little place to stay for a trip to the area. Less than 10 minutes to Saugerties for food and poking around or 30 or so to Kingston, 30 or so minutes to the Catskills for hiking, really close to many parks along the river. About 15 to the Empire State trail for biking.. The space is comfortable enough for 3 or 4 people, if they are couples. Its an older place with a lot of antiques, so probably not that great for kids - although there's a nice yard and access to the water, via a thoroughfare. Has a cute little porch off the back that you can look at the river.
Its not luxurious or anything, its been lived in for a while, hence the antiques. The space is not huge, though its is a stand-alone home (a third bedroom is not in use). It also doesn't have a lot of amenities - doesn't have a working stove (convection and toaster oven instead) or cable. Its quite close to the water but its not a perfect view, there's still another building on the water.
But its very well kept, very comfortable, and the host is lovely. Overall a great launching place for a trip to the area, if you are looking to enjoy nature and outside, and relax in the evenings.
Great get-away with unbelievable view of the Hudson and authentic mid-century decor
We needed a getaway while our house was being worked on, so this was perfect for us. We planned to eat at restaurants so the kitchen was more than adequate. (If we were going to cook, I’d have wanted to a regular stove.). In our case, we enjoyed looking at the gorgeous vintage stove! The owner shared a great description of the house’s history. The title above says it all.
The house is charming, with most of the original features and very cool old furniture. Very comfortable and homey. Wonderful views. We enjoyed our stay, and the area, immensely.

About the host
Hosted by Gaetana Ciarlante
Welcome to my place. The home I am offering to host you at is my family homestead. I live 2 blocks away. This homestead has river front property and beautiful river views, frequented by eagles, ducks, beavers, woodchucks and fox. It is also just 2 blocks from the Glasco mini park with a fishing dock, boat and kayak launches and picnic tables. This property was once the home of T. Ciarlante and sons' Crystal Ice Company where ice was harvested from the river. Glasco supported many immigrant families who came north to work in the blue stone and brick industries along the Hudson. The house you will stay in was built in 1941 and it preserves many of the treasures from the early days- photos, antiques and the treasure of a 1913 Sterling Piano recently tuned and ready for respectful playing and a 1941 Kalamazoo kitchen stove (for viewing only.) In addition to the antiques you will have all the modern accommodations. TV in bedroom, induction cook top with up to date pots and pans, microwave, Mr. Coffee, full fridge, and medium size electric convection oven. Ask me any questions you like before booking and if the Vrbo calendar says it is available no need to ask if it still available. I look forward to meeting and hosting you.
Why they chose this property
This house I am offering to host you at is my family homestead. It is where my family settled when my grandparents came from Italy. It is where I grew up and is very precious to me.
What makes this property unique
Has great river views and access to paths along the river; telescope and binoculars. Antiques and antique charm. TV's and DVD's. Even an antique piano recently tuned.
