Step back in time when houses were made from local materials found right on the property. Experience the charm of construction before the days of levels and perfect fits, yet the craftsmanship was so remarkable that somehow things not only fit, but held up well against the trials of time. As you climb the stone steps in front of the house, note how each step has a different height before you arrive on the stone deck where rocking chairs and a wood bench await your use and delight. A truly great front porch and beautiful sunsets await you!
Inside, lovely rooms will greet you with quality furnishings as well as modern amenities in the kitchen and baths. Started in the 1920s (with outside kitchen and bath during the early days), the house has had several additions as it was enlarged and modernized. Today, it contains 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a living room, large kitchen with dining area, and a large family room. Although rarely if ever needed, air conditioning has been added to insure your comfort.
The house is configured whereby it can be easily enjoyed by 6 people as an extended family or group, or by 2 or 3 couples or family units with separate sleeping areas in the 2 bedrooms and the family room.
Each of the living room and family room are equipped with a television with cable service and a dvd/vhs player. Also in the family room are a convertible sleeper couch and lounge chairs, a stereo system with cd player and floor speakers, and a bumper pool table. The house is heated primarily via gas heaters that helps keep this area warm and cozy even in the coldest weather. An extensive and varied collection of vhs movies are also available for your viewing pleasure.
All rooms are furnished with comfortable and suitable furniture and furnishings, including high quality mattresses in the bedrooms and plenty of closet space.
The kitchen contains all new appliances, including a refrigerator with ice maker, stove, and dishwasher, as well as all normal kitchen utensils, pots and glassware. Stove and oven are gas.
A utility room contains the electric clothes washer and clothes dryer, as well as a gas powered water heater.
One bath has a tub and shower, while the contains a shower.
There is also a “mud room” if needed to clean your feet before entering the house, and this is also a suitable area for storing skis or other outdoor equipment.
Enjoy a unique experience when you stay in this very cool house that is literally a taste of history, but with modern cooking and plumbing facilities as well as modern comforts and features like TV and Wi Fi . It is conveniently located close to stores and restaurants, but in a rural/natural setting. Where else do you get on the Blue Ridge Parkway to get groceries, but you are only 6 miles from a 24 hour WalMart Super Center, and a variety of other stores.
The Stone House is normally not available for periods of less than 7 nights from December to March.
Logs and Stones Vacation Rentals is 14 acres, and we also offer 3 lovely log cabins with hot tubs at vrbo listings 481130, 601785, and1490669. Please check these if your desired dates are taken for this property.

The house is definitely on the older side and it's a little oddly laid out but overall it was nice and well located for exploring the mountains and different sights off of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Yes, the stone house is a historical house that was started in the 1920s and different parts were added over the years with the stone work being mostly done in the 1940s. So, the lay out is a little odd in parts but we tried to keep its original character while updating the kitchen and baths. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and the beautiful mountains where we are located.
The Stoney House is very quaint and quiet place to stay. It was clean and has a great front porch with rocking chairs to relax and enjoy nature. It is just about 2 miles from Little Switzerland and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Excellent location, Pleasant stay
We found this nice looking stone house for our memorial day guys weekend out. The place is spacious, quiet, clean and well kept with everything that you could need. The location is perfect for a relaxing retreat. Absolutely no hassles checking on and checking out and the owner and manager were very cooperative and helpful. Would definitely recommend the place to anyone.

This is a lovely stone house which stayed amazingly cool inside despite hot weather outside. Loved sitting in rockers on front porch listening to birds. Very relaxing place.

We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay in this special house. Yes, the stone house stays cool no matter how hot it gets outside! That's partly due to the building materials and surrounding trees, but primarily because the house is next to an active, cooling spring that also feeds our pond. We added some room units because some guests couldn't believe the house stays cool, but hardly anyone uses them.
We hope you will come relax here again someday,.
Felt like someone's home more than a rental property. That's a good thing! Good hiking nearby. Off season there's not a ton of restaurants or other things in the area, but the house is well equipped for home cooking.

Rustic Stone House in Little Switzerland
Very comfortable and clean rustic home 5 minutes from Blue Ridge Parkway and Little Switzerland...very quiet and peaceful location and easy drive to hiking - golf - dining and enjoying the beautiful NC mountains. The home is well appointed and the only thing missing are mountain views. We enjoyed our weekend here...

We are glad you enjoyed your stay. The main appeal of the stone house is the chance to step back in time in a pleasant way and, although the trees block the view most of the year, there is a lovely view of the mountains from the front porch during the winter months.

Cute house in a great location
Everything in the description was spot on. House is older and there is no mountain view but it delivers in every other way. Clean, well appointed house just a mile from Little Switzerland Inn and Cafe and very near the Wal Mart if you need supplies. The house is right off the road so access in and out is easy. We'll be back!

We are happy that you enjoyed your stay at the stone house and we look forward to having you visit again. Thanks for wanting to share your good experience.
Stone House was built in 1922 with some modifications over the years. The layout of the house reminds you of visits to Grandma’s farmhouse of yesteryear. Window units and ceiling fans kept the house comfortable during 90 degree days. There area is very quiet.

We are happy that you enjoyed your stay in the stone house and hope that you can visit again someday. The stone house is hardly ever warm because it’s next to a spring, but I am glad the window air conditioners and fans kept you cool during the extraordinary warm spell that you experienced. Keep care.
My family and I stayed for 4 days. It was a perfect quiet setting to get away from everything. It is not fancy, but was exactly what we were looking for - a rustic country home away from the hustle and bustle. It is probably best suited for a family of no more than 4, but 6 works out ok. The owner was prompt, thorough and helpful. The property manager, Doug, was wonderful and is close by should you need anything. My family and I enjoyed our stay and would definitely make a return trip.

Tranquil retreat
We are so grateful that the Pearson's were able to accommodate our last minute reservation request. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a chipmunk and baby bunny. The cabin was perfect for our family of 4. Everything we needed, including soap, hair dryer and detergents, was provided. The linens were clean and the mattresses comfortable. Our only disappointment was the poison ivy around the pond and creek. If we return to the area, we will definitely stay at the Stone House again.

We are glad you enjoyed the stone house. I am sorry about poison ivy being by the pond and creek. It is very hard to control although we usually do a pretty good job of controlling it in area around the pond. I will go over and check it and bring some herbicide. I also wish you had let us know if you got poison ivy on you as we have some pretty effective medicine for that.
Thanks, and keep care.

Nestled in the Mountains
Very clean, spacious home with most amenities except central air (has window AC) which were never needed, and we spent the month of August! Chill out on the rockers on the front porch, explore the Blue Ridge Pkwy sites or drive to Blowing Rock, Boone, and Asheville. Mountain roads take a little getting used to ( you are really up there!), but worth it. Property manager, Doug, is very friendly and helpful, as is the owner, Steve. Peaceful and quiet!

Location was quiet and still close to things. There are many heaters in the property but only needed one to keep us comfortable. The place was as described. It is a bit of a maze inside the house and we kept going in circles, but its to be expected of an older home. Very clean and comfortable and met our needs for cooking and relaxing at the home over a weekend stay. We had no serious issues and owner was communitive. Cell service is spotty, but we were on a vacation and didn't care or need the service. The pond next door and the stream out front was nice to listen to.

Great Place for one parent / 2 kids!
We loved this adorable house, no Grandma's country kitchen here! Luckily, the wifi helped us get around very locally. The Blue Ridge Pkwy was closed due to flooding which really made things tough. GPS got us there great, though the owner provided very specific directions.
Great family room addition w wifi, huge flatscreen, comfy sofa, blankets, etc. That's where we spent most of our time. It was super rainy when we we there, pretty damp inside-our food boxes were crumbly immediately!
Wonderful gas heaters to keep you warm.
Private property, but not scary remote.
I would happily stay there again just me and my little girls...but if my husband was there, we would need a bigger bed (only a full-we are used to a king).
Perfect amount of space, quaint but homey. Thanks Steve!

Thanks for sharing how you enjoyed the stone house even though you visited on a weekend with the most rain probably ever! If you enjoyed the house even when you didn't have any choice but to spend the entire weekend there, it demonstrates how comfortable the house is even as it retains its architectural charm and historical integrity. Incidentally, the bed rooms were built before the age of king sized beds and it would be very difficult if not impossible to fit one of those in either of the bedrooms anyway. However, one of the bedrooms has a queen size bed so try that if you decide to return with your husband.
Thanks for being a customer and for wanting to share your good experience with others.

Overrated house
My experience is not very pleasant with the stone house.
1. I found this house is quite overpriced.
2. One of the bathroom doors we could not close.
3. This house is not for 6 people, we have to sleep on the wooden floor, at night it was quite cold for kids. also there is no extra matteress.
4. You can not sit outside, as it has full of bugs wandering your head. It's really irritating.
5.Whole house is very old and need renovation, as you walk, it keep making lot of noise, also I keep hearing some noise at night, we were worried about our car parked outside.

It is clear that the stone house is not for you, but your comments are unfair and the result of your being upset that we would not refund your money when you had to leave a day early for your job. The property is quite reasonably priced, and there are 2 double beds and a convertible couch in the family room, but you didn't take the time to read the property description. You are in the country so sure there are bugs outside and noises at night, but the area is very safe and neither we nor our guests have ever had ANY problems with theft. Please go somewhere else as this is not the property for you, but your characterization is unfair and doesn't reflect what others (including myself) consider make this house a charming and interesting place to stay. I will check the door, but there was an extended family there right before you who loved it and said everything was perfect. The fact that you are just upset that you didn't get a refund when you left early to go to work is revealed in the comment you emailed during your stay that the house "is quite beautiful."
The Stone House was mostly as described. We enjoyed the location and convenience to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The house had all of the essentials. The house is furnished traditionally. The kitchen/dining room was well equipped and functional. The living room looked nice but the TV in that room did not work (lightning we were told) so we didn't really use that room. The Family room is very large and has continuous windows on 3 sides. The TV in that room worked but picture did not fill the screen. The WiFi worked well in the Family Room but not in the kitchen area. The land line was not functional while we were there even though we reported it to the property manager. Cell phone service in the house is marginal and frequently required us to go outside to make calls or send text. It turned cool while we were there and we had to use the gas space heaters. The central heating system is not functional. The space heaters were adequate to warm the house but no heat was available in the bath rooms. The layout of the house indicates it was significantly remodeled over the years and getting from the family room to the kitchen requires going through one of the bedrooms. This wasn't a problem for us but could be a problem with a larger group wanting some privacy.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. The phone was working fine when I checked so it appears to have been a temporary problem or perhaps the funny dial tone threw you off. We have now removed the living room TV after it was previously replaced twice as power surges seem to particularly hit that area for some reason. We will update the listing in that regard. Cell service can be impacted by weather, but it is always difficult going through stone walls. This is an historic house where the original kitchen and bath were outside. It has been added to numerous times but we tried to maintain its historical character while updating the kitchen and baths. An advantage of the floor plan is that the house can be used so that each bedroom has its own bath and living area, with the kitchen being reachable by either side. The central heating system has not worked for decades, but the gas heaters do an excellent job of heating. There is no safe way to add heat to the bathrooms and no one else has thought that was an issue.

Great vacation getaway in Little Switzerland
What a wonderful vacation getaway just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Little Switzerland. My husband and I and our two teenage daughters stayed at the stone house for four days in July. The location was wonderful because you are only a few minutes from the parkway and you can head North or South on the parkway and find many hiking trails, beautiful waterfalls and Asheville is only about an hour south. After a full day of hiking it was nice to return to our own little retreat away from everyone. The nights are very peaceful and you are awaken by the singing of birds out your window in the mornings. The cabin does not have air conditioning but do not let this stop you from staying here. We stayed during one of the hottest summers in the mountains and did not have any issues. You can open the windows and let the fresh cool night air in and the house stayed comfortable all day long. Another nice feature was the game room off the side of the house which is where my husband and daughters spent most of their time. In the stone section there is another sitting room with a second TV or books to read if you prefer just some nice peace and quiet. There was a full kitchen so we were able to make our breakfast to start the day and then return for BBQ in the evenings. The front porch was very inviting and a great place to enjoy the wonderful fresh peaches that were left at the house for us before our arrival.
If you are looking for a nice quiet getaway to relax and get away from it all and enjoy the wonderful fresh mountain air this is a wonderful place to stay! We are all hoping to return to our little stone house in the mountains in North Carolina.

We are happy that you and your family enjoyed a wonderful time at our stone house. It is a special place, and we appreciate that you wanted to share your good experience with others. I specially appreciated your letting others know that even in the hot July summer of 2015 when you visited, air conditioning was not needed in the stone house. It is built besides a creek and a spring, and surrounded by large trees, and I have never been there when I felt that the house was hot, or even warm enough that someone might want air conditioning. It stays cool and the real, but doable, challenge is keeping it warm in winter.
Thanks, and we hope you will be able to fulfill your wish to come visit again!
Steve
This cottage was exactly what we expected based on reviews and property description. It was clean and once we got the hang of regulating the gas heaters, it was comfortable even with temperatures in the 20's. The layout is a bit inconvenient as you have to pass through either of the 2 bedrooms to go from the family/TVroom to the kitchen. But we were with close family so no one minded. It's location makes it feel very secluded even though it is close to all the towns and attractions we were interested in.

We are happy that you enjoyed the stone house. It was added on to several times in its history, and the layout is a little strange, but it can actually be a benefit when 2 couples or small families are staying there as they can each have their own bathroom and privacy. Thank you for being a customer and we hope you will come again.
This was a cute cottage in a superb location! We stayed over Thanksgiving 2020 and had a wonderful time. There were so many beautiful hikes and waterfalls nearby, and the front porch was great for relaxing in the afternoon. The beds and family room were especially comfortable, and the kitchen had most everything we needed.

The Stone House is roomy with the family room addition. Our children enjoyed the bumper pool table. The property is on a quiet country road. With the comfortable mountain temperatures it was delightful to sit on the front porch and visit or read. This is an old house, which gave it character, but our only disappointment was that it was moist and musty inside. Although the temperatures were comfortable, we ran the window units upon arrival to dry out the heavy moisture leaving bedding and towels feeling damp. Otherwise it was clean, just old.

We are happy that you enjoyed your stay but are very sorry that you had a problem with moisture in the house. I wish you had contacted us about it as we could have fixed the problem for you. One of the drain pipes had become clogged and was backing up into the corner of the family room, and our regular cleaning person had just had surgery so no one noticed. We have since corrected it, but I am sorry that it wasn't as dry as it should have been while you were visiting.
About the host
Hosted by Steve Pearson
Wife Soony and I love Little Switzerland and the NC Mountains. I have been visiting different areas of the mountains since I was a child and selected Little Switzerland after careful consideration. It is a great area with a perfect mix of rural living and natural beauty, paired with the old time NC culture that keeps things like mountain music fresh and alive, yet close enough to more international art, music and cuisine in Asheville.
Why they chose this property
About 11 years ago, this property and 2 acres were purchased by a couple from eastern NC. I then purchased the adjoining 12 acres that had been the historic farm that was owned by the family that also owned this house. When the last owners decided to sell in 2011, I wanted to re-unite the properties and I purchased the house with its 2 acres late that year. At the time, I wasn't even sure what I would do with the house as I have a log home that is nearby and that my wife is crazy about. But I had always dreamed of owning an old stone house, and it was literally a dream come true when we closed. Although we also like to stay in the stone house from time to time, we decided to open a vacation rental business with it and 2 brand new cabins that are now also on the 14 acre property. I wanted to share not only this unique house, but also what NC mountain living had meant to me as a child when I discovered it and my lifelong love affair began. I hope you will experience or re-discover that for yourself in this historic and interesting house. It was the 'cadillac' of its day, and we have worked hard to restore it to its former glory while modernizing the kitchen and baths, refinishing the floors, and otherwise getting the house into good condition. We could never have done it alone, and we are thankful for the assistance of our friend Doug McKinney (part of a family that has been involved with construction in this area for generations). With Doug's help, we are finally ready to share this treasure with others. We believe that you will have a great time if you rent this unique house, most of which was literally built by hand with rock and wood harvested from this property. Doug is now the Property Manager for our business, Logs and Stones Vacation Rentals, LLC.
What makes this property unique
Although the kitchen, baths and appointments of the house are updated and modern, you will really feel like you have stepped back in time when you stay here, especially sitting on the front porch. Picture yourself living a calmer, slower lifestyle where you are confronted with the beauty of nature at every turn... or perhaps on a special shoot for the Andy Griffith show....This area was the home of moonshine, but this is soul shine!
