About this property
Charming Off- Grid cabin 5 min from the ocean in Midcoast Maine
Welcome to your cozy off- grid, affordable forest retreat! This is a sweet, rustic with no electricity... we do provide a rechargeable lamp, oil lamp and candles.
Rejuvenate away from EMF's and the buzz of modern life at our budding permaculture oasis on 25 acres with gardens and trails.
The Cabin has a comfortable queen bed with linens and towels provided, several small bureaus and a desk/natural slab dining table inside. There is a composting (bucket) toilet system + simple hand- wash station. (We will explain the systems when we welcome you). Outside is a patio table with chairs, as well as a small fire circle and grill.
There is a dirt drive learning to the Cabin, so you can park right beside it. The cabin sits in a meadow, surrounded by woods where you'll hear owls and see hawks overhead. Wake up and go to sleep to the sounds of crickets and song birds...
Cell phone reception is very spotty and unreliable at the cabin, though texts usually work with some providers. NO WIFI AT THE CABIN ITSELF However, you can walk down the road towards the main house for cell reception and fiberoptic wifi (just ask the hosts in advance).
This is a peaceful and affordable retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban living. There is a strong signal along Beach road on the way to our property and at Lincolnville Beach along Rt. 1. You may also access internet at local cafes and libraries.
The property is less than 3 miles from Camden Hills, Lincolnville Beach and Lake Megunticook. 15 min to Camden and Belfast, 20 minutes to Rockland. Summer offers views, hiking and biking trails, beach/water sports, farmers markets, spectacular concerts and dining experiences... Winter opens possibilities with the Camden Snow Bowl
The hostess has lived, worked and homesteaded in Maine for almost 20 years and happy to offer recommendations for a wonderful retreat and visit.

We had the best nights' sleep of our lives in this rustic cabin! Super quiet and peaceful. Excellent star watching. Masha was so nice and extremely hospitable!
Overall cute, rustic, not a hotel. No power or running water..just as off grid means. Compost toilet..all quaint and comfortable.

Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
The cabin itself was clean, comfortable, and very peaceful at night. The location was convenient. However, there were several issues that made the stay feel overpriced. One of the biggest disappointments was that the property did not feel as private as advertised. Before 8:00 AM, there were already people walking around near the cabin, which was unexpected and would’ve been nice to have a heads up. The carbon monoxide detector was also sitting in a bucket rather than properly mounted. Also while I understand the property is located in the woods, the surroundings appeared neglected. The grass was well over a foot tall, making it difficult to enjoy the outdoor space or even sit around the fire pit comfortably. The overgrown yard also contributed to a significant tick problem. We removed around 20 ticks from our dog during our stay. Better lawn maintenance would likely help reduce the issue.Another issue was the lighting. Since the cabin does not have electricity, I expected alternative lighting solutions, but there were only two very dim lamps and one portable light. Unfortunately, they provided very little illumination, making it difficult to comfortably use the cabin after dark. Additional lighting would have made a big difference.Overall, the cabin itself was nice and clean, but the lack of outdoor upkeep, limited privacy, and inadequate lighting made it hard to justify the price.

Response from VrboOwner on 15 June 2026
Dear Kyle,
We're sorry you thought the cabin is over-priced. VRBO sets and adjusts some of the rates in high season.
The cabin is off grid, as advertised. We do provide several small, rechargeable lamps and a head lamp. There are some solar lights outside, but there aren't other alternative sources of light. Those weren't described or offered in the listing. One may always wish for extras in life, but it's unreasonable to expect them or complain if extras aren't received.
Guests are welcome to prepare and bring their own headlamps/ lanterns or rest their eyes in the evening. There is a wood stove that has been installed for this season- a nice extra :) Guests are welcome to stay cozy and rest their eyes inside.
Also as advertised, the cabin is in a meadow in the woods. We don't mow the meadow or woods. There are ticks and other creatures around who share the ecosystem with us. We lived in the cabin all summer while renovating the house our first year here, and hundreds of guests have stayed now. There is plenty of peace, beauty and privacy here, which is what drew us and continues to draw guests to the land. You're the first with complaints about the lack of lights in an off grid cabin and ticks in the woods.
Perhaps you should have booked a hotel room?
Loved the cabin and location! Hated Goole map directions. Was concerned about safety with no handrail on steps. I’m Old and unsteady!

Very remote-no cell service so communication with Host was nonexistent. So, we chose not to risk a stay-not safe for us!

I booked the stay, communicated our ETA well in advance, even provided a “15 minutes out” notice, and showed up to a cabin without power and a dismissive response from the host that they were at dinner and would come when they finished. The cabin is in the middle of no where, it was pitch black, and there’s nothing around. I’m a single woman and didn’t feel safe. There’s no cell service anywhere close so I simply left. Would not recommend.

Why they chose this property
We chose this quiet neighborhood and 26 acre parcel to settle on for its relative spaciousness and seclusion, coupled with proximity to the ocean and Midcoast Maine's developed resources and communities.

This quiet neighborhood and its surrounding 26 acres of former unceeded Wabanaki Territory have been part of our dream to create a sustainable permaculture- inspired community in Midcoast Maine.
