In June on Father's Day weekend come see the famous bike races down the middle of town. In July we have three 'Summer Nights', the last three Wednesdays in the month. The streets are closed to traffic and lined with food and craft vendors. Don't miss the Bluegrass Festival, Music In The Mountains, Halloween, Mardi Gras, Fall colors, etc., etc., etc.
Enjoy Victorian Christmas, the first three Wednesday nights, and the last Sunday before Christmas. You'll find artisans, food vendors and all the shops open late. The gas streetlights, Victorian carolers, and friendly merchants make this the place to visit and shop for the holidays.

Lake Vera is a small lake surrounded by summer camps. Our cabins are located on 5 acres next to Camp Augusta. We want your lodging experience to be most enjoyable. Part of that enjoyment comes from selecting the vacation property that best fits your needs. Mama Bear’s Cabin was built in 1985 and is 650 sq. ft., a good space for 2 to 4 people. The style is simple, clean and unpretentious. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics you need for cooking, but if you are a gourmet chef, this may not be the place for you. Some of the dishes are hand made pottery. Not everything matches. There is no dishwasher. Garbage needs to be disposed of carefully to avoid attracting those wild critters. Collecting compost scraps and recycling is required, and a conservative energy usage strongly encouraged. There is no central heat. There is a hearth stove, a wall furnace. and a window air conditioner. Please feel free to contact should you have questions or concerns after booking or during your stay. Note: Wifi is AT&T and is unreliable. Checking emails is usually ok, but surfing the net is hit or miss. If you need better wifi, please consider another option.

We had a lovely stay. It was a perfect 3 day getaway from SF. The cabin was just as listed. My only advice - make sure to arrive while it’s light out - it would be challenging to find the cabin for the first time in the dark.
We had a wonderful time at Mama Bear‘s cabin. It’s such a comfortable property. Everything worked well, and we loved the hot tub. The beds were extremely comfortable too! We would definitely like to come back and stay again.
A sweet little cabin near the Yuba River and Nevada City, CA. We stayed for Thanksgiving weekend. The kitchen is modest, but we found everything we needed to make an amazing Friendsgiving feast! And we brought a few of our own tools just in case. We enjoyed the hot tub off the back porch under the canopy of oaks and pines. We loved playing games in the warmth of the "wood" stove (gas). The property is wild and wooded with 3 cabins of differing sizes - Papa, Mama and Baby. We saw hawks, deer, squirrels and turkeys. There are trailheads nearby and Nevada City is a 10 minute drive for sundries, restaurants, etc.. We had a very peaceful and quiet time here.
We stayed here already 4 times and we love it. This time we brought our granddaughter and she likes to go back next year. Just the internet wasn’t really working .
Mama Bear's cabin was the most charming and secluded getaway in what feels like your own, private woods. It is cozy with an old-time cabin quaintness, plus it's immaculately clean. We loved watching the deer from the deck with our coffees in the morning. Perfect for our family of 3 and our dog.
Cabin exactly as described. We both needed a quiet getaway, the cabin was so much more than what we had hoped for. If you're looking for relaxation you'll find it here :)
It was so peaceful and secluded, even though you are just 3 miles from downtown Nevada City. We loved the cabin and will absolutely be booking again. Comfy beds, kitchen is well stocked and the trees and stars cannot be bear! The hot tub was great.
We had a wonderful time. It was a clean, comfortable, and cozy stay. Rene was very helpful with recommendations and we really enjoyed our time. We will definitely be back!
Everything was great and beds were more comfortable than I expected! Loved/hated the lack of internet BUT that’s perfect for forcing some unplugged time with your family <3
We had a little difficulty locating the cabin; but once we were there, we had a great time. Enjoyed the wooded surroundings, hot tub, and well equipped games.
A friend and I enjoyed a relaxing, unplugged long weekend. Mama Bear Cabin was just as described, a little rustic and thoroughly comfortable. Nevada City was charming and the South Yuba River area never disappoints. Highlights were independence Trail and Malakoff Diggins.
Great property. In nature, hot tub , electric fireplace, comfy bed, area, beautiful trees close to downtown Nevada City but far enough away that you feel like your in the country.
Rene was wonderful with communication and making sure I had a great stay. Really loved being at Mama Bears and will definitely come back.
Really cute little cabin on a nice quiet spot. Was clean and the fireplace was a really welcome addition as it was cold and wet when I was there, I imagine the propery would be really pretty if there were leaves on the tress and it wasnt the wettest CA year in history but even the dog enjoyed running around the yard in the rain. A really nice spot to get away for a few days.
Great place for three friends attending a retreat in the Nevada City area. Futon bed in living room served as a third bedroom. Enjoyed the hot tub. Kitchen great, cooked both nights. Communication with the owner was easy. Definitely recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Drue and Rene
Drue is an avid runner, and René is a potter. We both share a love for acting and can be seen in local productions from time to time. Obi is our beloved 3 legged, one eyed poodle.
We love Nevada City and the wonderful community here and have lived here over 24 years. We love sharing information about the area with our guests.
Why they chose this property
All three of our cabins (Papa Bear's Lodge, Mama Bear's Cabin and Baby Bear's Cottage) are on the same property. The lodge was our family home for a number of years and we loved living here. When we decided to move into town next to Rene's studio, we knew others would really enjoy the lodge and smaller cabins. And we were right!
What makes this property unique
Privacy, nature, and a short drive to the beautiful South Fork of the Yuba River. It is a magical place. Wild turkeys, deer, foxes, coyotes, racoons, squirrels and the rare bear siting can all happen right here.
