The Space:

Mountain air sharpens the night sky here, and when darkness settles in, constellations feel close enough to touch. You spend evenings wrapped in quiet, with wooded hills fading into the distance and stars filling the windows above.

Orion is a loft-style luxe glamping dome set at one of the highest points on a private, wooded retreat in Wardensville, West Virginia. Designed for stargazing and calm escapes, the dome blends comfort with an immersive outdoor setting while keeping you sheltered from the elements year-round. Free parking on premises is available.

Sleeping arrangements

The dome accommodates up to four guests with a thoughtful loft layout. A cozy king bed rests on the main level, while a queen bed sits in the loft above, positioned for night-sky views through expansive windows. Access to the loft is via stairs, making this space best suited for guests comfortable with a multi-level interior.

Interior comforts

Inside, you’ll find a warm, inviting space designed for slowing down after time outdoors. Heating keeps the dome comfortable during colder months, while air conditioning is available when temperatures rise. WiFi supports streaming and remote work, and a TV and sound system make quiet evenings indoors easy to enjoy. Bathroom essentials are provided, along with a full indoor bathroom and shower, so you can unwind.

Kitchen & dining

The kitchen area allows you to prepare simple meals during your stay, whether you’re brewing coffee in the morning or cooking dinner after sunset. A dining table provides a comfortable place to eat, play board games, or plan the next day’s adventure.

Outdoor living

Step outside onto your private deck to take in the mountain surroundings. Outdoor seating and a BBQ grill extend the living space beyond the dome, even in cooler seasons when bundled-up moments feel especially rewarding.

Setting & shared property notes

Orion is part of a larger private retreat with one additional dome nearby and a yurt farther away. While you may see other guests during your stay, the dome maintains its own deck, offering a sense of separation and privacy. The property spans 35 wooded acres, though a state route to the north may create occasional road noise, especially in winter. A sound machine is provided to support restful nights.

Area highlights

A short drive brings you to hiking trails, fishing spots, and the natural beauty of Lost River State Park. Nearby small towns offer cafes, restaurants, and local shops, perfect for a relaxed afternoon outing before returning to the warmth of the dome.

Winter travel considerations

During snow or icy conditions, four-wheel drive or tire chains may be required. Travel insurance is recommended in winter, as road conditions are outside host control.

Whether you’re stargazing from bed or enjoying the stillness of the woods, Orion offers a grounded seasonal escape centered on nature and quiet.

Note

Orion is part of a large private retreat, with one yurt and another dome nearby. One dome is about 100 feet away, and the yurt is over 400 feet away. While you may see other guests at these properties during your stay, Orion is still quite secluded — with your own private deck and fire pit. BTW, if you’re interested in booking both domes, please let us know!

During inclement weather, such as snow or ice, you may be required to have 4-wheel drive or tire chains. We also recommend Travel Insurance during the winter months. We do not give refunds for road conditions that are out of our control.

Our cleaning team sweeps the deck, stairs, and walkways before each arrival, but due to the natural setting, you may still notice some leaves, pollen, or similar—especially during certain seasons. We appreciate your understanding as nature tends to leave its mark, no matter how often we tidy up!

I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.

Why they chose this property

We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and this cabin in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cabin is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
