Why they chose this property
This home has been in our family for generations — it originally belonged to my husband’s great-grandparents. We lived here ourselves for many years and created countless memories before our growing family needed more space. Sharing it now feels very special to us, and we love that others can enjoy a place that means so much to our family.
We chose this neighborhood because it offers the perfect balance of peaceful seclusion and easy access to some of the Upper Peninsula’s best outdoor experiences. Melstrand is quiet, scenic, and surrounded by nature, making it an ideal place to relax, unplug, and enjoy the beauty of the woods.
At the same time, it’s centrally located along H-58, so you’re just a short drive from Lake Superior, waterfalls, hiking trails, and popular destinations like Munising and Grand Marais. With direct access to ATV and snowmobile trails nearby, it’s also a great spot for year-round adventure.
We love how calm and uncrowded the area feels while still being close to everything people come to the U.P. to experience — that’s what makes it so special to us, and why we’re excited to share it with our guests.

What makes this property unique
What makes this property truly unique is its history, location, and welcoming, lived-in comfort. This isn’t just a rental — it’s a home that has been in our family for generations and was lovingly lived in by us for many years. It’s filled with the warmth and character of a place that has been cared for and enjoyed, not just visited.
Its location along H-58 offers a rare combination of peaceful woodland seclusion and central access to some of the Upper Peninsula’s most popular outdoor destinations. Guests love being able to easily explore the area during the day and return to a quiet, relaxing space away from crowds and noise.
The property is especially well-suited for outdoor recreation, with nearby ATV and snowmobile trail access and plenty of parking for trucks, trailers, and gear — something that can be hard to find. The large backyard provides room to spread out, relax, and enjoy the outdoors, whether that means bonfires, grilling, or letting kids play in the summer.
Being pet-friendly also makes this home stand out, allowing guests to bring their furry companions along for the adventure.
Most of all, what makes this place special is the feeling of comfort, simplicity, and connection to nature — a true Upper Peninsula home base where guests can relax, explore, and make their own lasting memories.
