For those who really want to get away from it all...
The cottage is situated in the commune of Prunet et Belpuig in the foothills of the Pyrénées, just over one hour from the Mediterranean beaches, 50 mins. from Perpignan and one hour from Spain.
The detached farm cottage is part of a traditional Catalan mas, with the cottage orientated for maximum independence and privacy.
The mas is set along a quiet, rough country track in 150 acres of mixed woodland which leads down to a stream.
The kitchen opens onto a terrace with stunning views of Mt. Canigou and the surrounding countryside, and the swimming pool on a lower terrace.
The interior of the cottage consists of an open plan living/dining room, separate kitchen and shower/cloak room. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and one with three single beds and a bathroom with bath, separate shower, bidet, W.C. and washbasin.

Excellent stay

The property is set in an idyllic mountainside setting. The views are beautiful and it is very tranquil. Paul and Susie were unobtrusive and helpful. The house itself was traditional and well equipped. The pool is lovely and well maintained.

Almost heaven...

Thank you Susie and Paul for having us as guests in your little paradise! Besides fantastic hosts this rental is located in absolute tranquility. Everything is as described and expected. If you are into staying in a remote location this is the right thing. The hosts are living in a house next door so they were always there when we needed them but beside that we never really noticed them at all. The countryside and the mountain views are breathtaking and we can also really recommend ordering the delicious bread from the small grocery store in a village nearby.

Gem in the South of France

We enjoyed every day at this beautiful house with stunning views towards the pyrenees. Susie and Paul are amazing hosts who care and who made us feel welcome even before we arrived. For us it was pure luxury to be in the midst of calm nature and still have the amenities of a pool and well equipped home. Of course it is some way to go to get to a larger supermarket or the beach but even more reason to make most of the time at the place itself. There is also a small shop close by where you can get delicious bread and a small but good selection of basic food and drinks. We were two families travelling with children (between the age of 3 and 9) and can not stress enough how much the little ones loved to stroll through the garden and to explore the nature around. We can highly recommend the house to everyone who appreciates a hideaway and is searching for a location to unwind and relax. Our stay at Can Xatard was an overall exceptional expierience!

Wir haben eine Woche in diesem kleinen Paradies auf Erden verbracht. Die Anfahrt ist etwas abenteurlich ( besonders die direkte Zufahrt zum Haus führt über eine nicht geteerte, recht holprige Straße) aber Dank der genauen Beschreibung von Susie und Paul erreicht man das Haus problemlos. Die Begrüßung durch die beiden war sehr herzlich und unkompliziert. Das Haus ist sehr schön und gemütlich eingerichtet und die Küche ist gut ausgestattet ( Geschirrspül- und Waschmaschine, Gasherd, Backofen). Der absolute Höhepunkt ist aber der Garten und der große Pool; von der Terasse aus bietet sich ein atemberaubender Blick in die Pyrenäen und der Garten ist einfach wunderschön angelegt und wird durch Susie mit viel Liebe gepflegt. Wer absolute Ruhe und Erholung sucht, wird diese in Can Xatard finden. Ein "Mal-eben-irgendwo-hinfahren" ist aufgrund der doch recht abgeschiedenen Lage nicht wirklich praktikabel- aber man möchte auch nicht weg von diesem Ort! Alles ist sehr gepflegt, Susie und Paul sind immer erreichbar, aber sehr diskret und im Hintergrund- obwohl sie dirket im Haus nebenan wohnen. Wir haben unseren Urlaub sehr genossen und können dieses bezaubernde Fleckchen Erde nur weiter empfehlen.Herzlichen Dank an Susie und Paul!

Wer wirklich mal entspannen möchte und idyllisch zur Ruhe kommen möchte, ist hier genau richtig. Es was alles einfach wunderbar. Die Gastgeber sind hilfsbereit, professionell zurückhaltend und doch immer erreichbar bzw. unterstützen in Notfällen. Das Anwesen ist mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet und sehr sehr sauber. Un lieu magique et retiré

Les hôtes Suzie et Paul sont charmants. Le lieu est magnifique avec cette vue et ces alentours. Mais malheureusement pas adapté à un bébé. Même en laissant les volets fermés la journée, le soir la chambre restait à 28° bébé ne dormait pas…malgré le ventilateur prêté gentiment par Suzie. Idem pour le bruit, c’est une vielle bâtisse donc les portes, l’escalier et le parquet en bois à l’étage grincent et réveillent bébé…Nous avons dû écourter notre séjour de 7 nuits à 3 nuits. Cet endroit est idéal et paradisiaque pour une famille avec de grands enfants ou entres adultes. En ce qui nous concerne, un petit salon d’extérieur, un canapé plus grand que celui de 2 places et des lits plus grands que 140 seraient appréciables pour les futurs vacanciers. Encore merci à Susie et Paul pour leur accueil.

Wonderful escape

A beautiful, peaceful location with everything you could possibly need. Suzie & Paul were wonderful hosts; friendly, helpful and welcoming as well as being unobtrusive. The gite was comfortable, well equipped with beautiful views of the mountain. The pool was perfect for the hot summer temperatures we had. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing stay in a remote location, Can Xatard is perfect.

Wunderbarer Urlaub in der Natur mit Blick auf die Pyrenäen

Wir haben im Juli mit unseren beiden Teenagern zwei herrliche Wochen im hübschen Steinhaus von Susie und Paul verbracht. Das Haus ist sehr gemütlich und zweckmäßig eingerichtet und wir haben uns sofort wohl gefühlt. Ein besonderes Highlight sind der große Pool und der fantastische Blick auf die Pyrenäen. Wer Ruhe und Natur sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Das Haus ist ziemlich abgelegen und man muss mehr Zeit für Ausflüge einplanen, aber das war uns vorher bewusst. Die Straßen sind sehr kurvenreich und teilweise recht eng. Die letzten 2,5 km Schotterweg sind sehr holperig und ein SUV ist auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert, ansonsten könnte es schwierig werden. Susie und Paul waren tolle Gastgeber und haben uns bei der Ankunft sehr herzlich empfangen. Sie wohnen direkt nebenan, was ich beruhigend fand, weil das Haus schon sehr einsam liegt. Bei Fragen und Problemen waren sie jederzeit ansprechbar, hielten sich ansonsten aber diskret im Hintergrund. Sie haben uns sogar mit selbst angebautem Gemüse versorgt, was sehr lecker war. Bis zum großen Supermarkt braucht man ca 50 min, aber in 15 min Entfernung gibt es einen kleinen Laden, in dem man das Nötigste, sowie Brot, Baguette, Croissants (vorher bestellen) bekommt. Obwohl es tagsüber teilweise ziemlich heiß war, war es im Haus angenehm, weil wir die Fensterläden am Tag geschlossen und erst nachts gelüftet haben. Nachts fielen die Temperaturen meistens unter 20 Grad, was sehr angenehm war. Wir danken Susie und Paul für diesen tollen Urlaub und können das Haus jedem, der Ruhe und Erholung fernab des Massentourismus sucht, nur empfehlen.

Séjour très agréable.

Très belle petite maison. Totalement reculée de la civilisation. Vue magnifique. Emplacement privilégié en pleine montagne. Aucun bruit. Maison des propriétaires a 10m. Bcp de route nécessaire pour trouver la moindre activité. Comptez 1h aller et 1h retour au minimum. Le sol point négatif est qu'il a fait très chaud lors de la 2 ème semaine ( 32°C minimum et 39°C max) et que la maison n'est pas du tout isolée. Simple vitrage, porte et fenêtres en bois d'époque, volets absents sur une des façades. Les nuits ont été très compliquées avec plus de 30 degrés à l'étage. Difficile pour parents et enfants. C'est malgré cela, un petit coin de paradis ou l'on aime rentrer le soir apres avoir gambadé et randonné toute la journée.

Nous vous remercions pour les cinq étoiles de votre appréciation, nous sommes très heureux que les lieux vous ont tant plu. Effectivement depuis le début juin l'été est caniculaire avec les températures excessivement élèvées depuis plusieures semaines. Nous conseillons à tous nos hôtes de garder la maison (portes, stores, fenêtres, volets) "fermée" pendant les heures de chaleur et d'ouvrir tout aux heures de fraîcheur. Cependant, parfois il y a des oublis et les fenêtres restent ouvertes pendant la journée, chauffant la maison. Bien entendu, si les conditions climatiques extrêmes continuent, comme cette été, nous entreprendrons des modifications nécéssaires. La paix et la tranquillité si reposant que l'on trouve dans cette vallée ne se retrouve pas tout près des activités de la plaine, nous donnons quelques exemples des distances, en temps, dans nos détails avant réservation.

Un havre de paix

Nous avons passé une très bonne semaine au calme dans cette très jolie maison bien isolée. La piscine est superbe ainsi que la vue que le canigou. Paul et Suzie sont très gentils et très discrets et respectueux des vacanciers. Il faut noter que la maison est assez isolée avec une distance d’une heure de route pour atteindre les points de visites principaux. Il y a aussi une piste de 3 kl pour atteindre la maison.

Sehr ruhig, sehr freundliche Gastgeber, zum entspannen die perfekte Adresse

Wir haben unseren Urlaub bei Susanne und Paul sehr genossen. Das Haus ist zweckmäßig und die Ausstattung in Ordnung und sauber. Nur die Kopfkissen könnten besser sein. Der Pool war sehr schön und die gesamte Anlage ist gut gepflegt. Man kann die wilde Natur und die Ruhe genießen ohne Lärm vom Verkehr oder andere Störungen. Das Haus ist so weit vom Trubel und Verkehr, dass man absolut entspannt und zeitlos den Urlaub genießen kann. Nur zum Einkaufen oder für Ausflüge braucht man etwas mehr Zeit , da das Haus ziemlich weit von Rest der Welt ist und die Straßen sehr kurvenreich sind. Trotz diesem Umstand fanden wir den Urlaub sehr schön. Unsere Empfehlung an Nachfolger: - Informiert euch gut in Vorfeld über die Route zum Haus. Es ist schwer zu finden ( Navi führt euch meistens am Ende falsch) - Fahre am besten mit einem SUV. Die letzte Strecke bis zum Haus (ca 2,5 km) ist für niedrige Autos nicht empfehlenswert - Kauf ein genug vor der Ankunft, so dass ihr nicht jeden Tag zum einkaufen raus must Sonst, unsere beste Referenzen von den freundlichen Gastgeber Susanne und Paul. Séjour idyllique

Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour dans la maison de paul et suzie. Une vue incroyable, un calme total... la maison est magnifique, les dîners sur la terrasse avec vue sur le canigou ainsi que les baignades dans la magnifique piscine resteront dans nos mémoires! La maison est très jolie, très bien décorée. Les chambres sont grandes et agréables. Paul et suzie sont adorables et nous ont offerts régulièrement des légumes de leur jardin; délicieux! Et aussi donné de bons conseils sur les découvertes de la région. A noter: la maison est assez isolée donc nous faisions pas mal de route pour partir à la découverte des merveilles du coin (abbaye st Martin du canigou, abbaye st Michel de cuxa, châteaux cathares, ...) et c est aussi tout le charme de cette maison magique!

A little paradise in the Pyrenees

Away from it all

We spent a lovely peaceful week in Can Xatard, up in the mountains. The house was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The pool is large and very clean, and the location is fantastic with views to Mount Canigou. Susie and Paul were so friendly and helpful and were there if we needed them. The house was very private, and we didn't feel overlooked at all. We were lucky to have excellent weather at the start of September, only broken by the odd windy day and a minor thunderstorm which only helped add an extra dimension to our holiday. It's a truly magical place. The long track leading to the house is a bit of a shock first time as its quite dusty and a bit bumpy, but we got used to it after a few drives. It's all part of the experience! The road up from Ceret is winding but very easy with lots of passing places. We recommend the small friendly family run shop in St Marsal, which we used on Sunday as we didn't manage to get our groceries in on the way. Wonderful to have the privilege to share this tranquil and peaceful location, even if for just one week.
