About Michael Cutteridge
I bought Villa Les Aygals in 2002 when my children were still young and it has been, and continues to be a much loved family home. We all live in London and have busy lives, which makes it difficult to get there as often as we would like, so we decided to share it with you. I originally thought about buying a second home in the UK and checked out Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. It quickly became apparent that I could never be a week-ender due to the horrendous traffic and started to set my sights further afield. We can leave London, drive to Stansted, and arrive at the house in France in the same time it would have taken to drive to Cornwall on a good run!! I have never regretted my decision to buy in France. My children and I enjoy a wonderful property with a swimming pool, sunny days all year round, a different culture, the stunning mountains and proximity to the sea. And now it's available to share with you! I hope you choose to stay and come to love the area as we do.

Why Michael Cutteridge chose Maureillas-las-Illas
I chose to buy in a village with proximity to local amenities as I didn't see myself as the sort of person (with teenagers) who would want to be stuck half way up a mountainside with an hour's drive to the nearest pint of milk! We love being a part of this French community and employ a local french gardener and 3 ex-pat English people to help us look after the property. During your stay you may get to meet Debra our housekeeper, Bernie the pool man, Don our handyman or Franck the gardener. Our time in France generally starts with dinner in either El Tap or 66/20, both closeby in the village, to say hello to Jean-Louis or Sabrina who are your hosts, and to meet our feeding requirements before we get to the shops. We are discovering the area all the time. New places open up and there are always our favourite haunts to go back to.
What makes this Villa unique
Villa Les Ayglas straddles 3 cultures. It is in France, but has a strong Catalan influence, you are in Catalonia after all! It is just 15 minutes drive over the border into Spain with its Costa Brava and the wonderful cities of Girona, Figueres and Barcelona. This area is an art lovers paradise. All the greats painted here Matisse, Picasso to name just two, and their presence can be felt as you explore the local area....such as the modern art museum in Ceret and in the bars of Collioure; over the border it is Salvador Dali at his museum in Figueres. You are also in a most scenic environment with the beautiful Pyrenees, wonderful beaches and the picture postcard Ceret with its famous Saturday market. And lets not forget our lovely village of Maureillas which puts on entertainment most week-ends through out the summer months at its Parc de Loisir...... come and see the locals dancing their local dance The Sardanes, or enjoy the Paella and Mechoi evenings with music.......there is so much to do and so little time to do it!!!

Great pool and lovely village
We had a great week, two families with young children. Pool was amazing, big enough to properly play and swim in and warm enough too. Being walking distance to the local town made a big difference and meant we could pop down for croissants and bread every morning. Two twin rooms are up a quite creaky and narrow staircase so not really suitable for young kids although our 7 year olds were fine. Lovely and quiet, great stay all round.
Glad you and your party enjoyed your stay in our villa home.
Best Michael and Family.
2nd Stay at Maureillas las Illas
A delightful week again in this wonderful villa with our family. All went well and can thoroughly recommend it. Quiet ,spacious and suits young and old!
We are delighted you had another enjoyable stay with us. We hope to extend another warm welcome to you in the future.
Thank you for your kind words.
Best wishes. Michael.
Second time at this villa, great time again, thanks.
A group of nine of us stayed in this villa for a week. We found it to be very comfortable and clean. The villa has a lovely flow, with lots of space and is beautifully decorated. I particularly enjoyed the art work. We all enjoyed the pool and the table tennis and we ate on the patio every evening. We found the kitchen to be very well equipped for our needs. Some of the glasses look marked and I think it has been caused by the dishwasher but apart from that everything was fine. We also thought that it would be nice to have a couple more sun loungers as there were not enough for everyone., but again not a massive issue for our busy kids.
Michael and Jane were both very helpful and responsive to issues. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely villa to future visitors. Would recommend the area too. We visited Collioure, Castelnou and had a brilliant day out at Aqua Brava water park across the border in Roses. We didn't use the bikes provided in the villa but several of our party brought road bikes and really enjoyed the excellent routes in the area. Thank you for a great holiday.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday in our villa home in France.Thank you for your feedback.
We hope to see you again.
Our family of 10 were absolutely delighted with our stay!
The villa is spacious, well designed and fantastically located on the edge of Maureillas-las-Ilas. We could not have hoped for more. The kitchen and dining areas were comfortable and well equiped. The pool and outside areas were ideal for our family of 10. We appreciated the Table Tennis and being able to use the bikes - cycling to Ceret in 25 minutes. The local village has a lovely square with 2 restaurants and a number of bars - we greatly enjoyed Catalan dancing one evening. A local lake outside St Jean Plat de Corts provided several activities for the children; zip wire, `go-ape`, pedalos, paddle boards and an inflatable obstacle course - great fun! Jane was very friendly and helpful with all our enquiries. We even had a local black cat befriend us and add to the sense of home and fun. We can`t wait to come back next year. Many thanks.
We are so delighted you had a great holiday in our villa home in France and we look forward to welcoming you back next year to further explore our beautiful area of France.
