Arrive via a winding mountain road (15-20 min/5 miles from Ceret), past deep ravines and ravishing views. A private road provides access, and the Mas nestles among old stone terraces, meadows, and oak and sweet chestnut forests.

The Mas has a well so no water issues. It is equipped stainless steel kitchen and master bedroom with antiques and a freestanding bath plus walk-in shower. An artisan-designed spiral staircase leads to a spacious double height 'sejour' with fireplace and antique desks, and on this level there is also an ensuite double bedroom. Level three is a mezzanine with French country beds.
The outdoor terrace has a full-size dining table shadowed by grapevines and jasmine and also boasts two large figs and a BBQ.
A brief uphill walk leads to a landscaped stone terrace and 6 x 12m, heat pump-supplied infinity pool. A pool house with a small kitchen area allows for spellbinding poolside dining as the sun sets behind Mount Canigou. There is a separate wood-fired grill area and the large pool terrace also offers umbrellas, sunbeds and the shade of giant oaks. Large parties and weddings have taken place here, but you will have it to yourself.
There is a tree fort and benches throughout the property, which comprises four hectares of meadows and 18 of forested land.
Many mountain walks are possible straight from the breakfast table. Equally perfect for family gatherings or quiet contemplation, this property offers satellite internet and a barn with table tennis.
The location of Mas Soubiranne is invariably cooler at 700 m above the valley, yet the town is perfectly accessible for dinner reservations.
The owners heroically plant and maintain rustic gardens around the property favoring primrose and wild roses, fig trees, olives, laurel, hydrangeas, oleander and copious lavender. In the springtime the cherry trees are laden with fruit. There are also apples, plums and quince on the stone terraced orchards as well as walnuts and chestnuts.
