OWL COTTAGE
cosy 2 BEDROOM cottage perfect for walks and relaxing, dog friendly
Typical Derbyshire stone cottage with cosy lounge, with low beamed ceiling and coal burner effect gas fire. Cupboards with games, jigsaws, lego, colouring pens and books , local info and walking maps. Wifi, television and radio available. I believe this is a great place to make time for yourself, friends and family, a place to relax, a place for romance. The cottage has 2 generous double bedrooms, (1 with a kingsize bed), a bright dining kitchen and a downstairs shower room/toilet. The kitchen opens to a good sized, fenced in, south facing back garden with patio , lawn and flower beds. It is quite private and great for al fresco dining and a dog. The cottage is located on the edge of Crich Village, near the Stand and Tramway museum. There are lots of public footpaths nearby. Lots of off lead walks for dogs. Crich itself is very picturesque (featured in the television series Peak Practice as the village of Cardale) and has everything you need within a 15 minute walk : 2 pubs, convenience store, lovely bakery /tearoom, traditional butcher, Indian restaurant, fish and chips , post office and even a hair dresser/ beauty salon! Crich is only a 15 minute drive from Matlock Bath with restaurants, (esp Fish and Chips), Tearooms, Musea, Gullivers Kingdom, the Heights of Abraham and lots of small shops. The peak district and historical sights like Chatsworth, Hardwick Hall, Keddleston Hall, Haddon Hall and many more are all well less than 1 hour drive away. Even Alton Towers is only about 1 hour drive. There is information on lots of tourist attractions, local restaurants and walks available at the cottage. Ordnance survey maps for the brave or experienced ones...

My best friend and I stayed here and we couldn't be happier. It's even more beautiful than the pictures, and the host was so easy to reach if we had any questions or concerns. As an American we were a little nervous because it is a small local village, but everyone there made us feel like locals and were very welcoming when they met us. Can't recommend this stay enough, already talking about staying here next year.

Hi Josh, thanks for the lovely review. It was nice to actually meet you too. Thanks for looking after the cottage.
Always welcome
We had a wonderful time in this cozy cottage! Annick made us all feel very welcome including our family dog. The bedrooms are upstairs, quite spacious and with a very nice view. There is a lovely little backyard that is completely fenced in and we got to eat the delicious apples from the apple tree. There are many different walks in the area and as the town centre of Crich is just a short walk away, so you also have access to a little grocery store, a bakery, and a pub among. Annick was a proactive, warm and wonderful host and we will certainly come back when we are in the area again!

Cosy , bijou, comfortable and great for dogs
We had a lovely time staying here . It was cosy, comfortable and warm . Our dog loved sleeping by the fire . We had lots of lovely walks . The cottage provided everything we needed for a cosy base for Peak District adventures , the highlights being Thorpe Cloud Hill at Dovedale and an amazing caving trip .
Thanks for a lovely holiday!

yes,my greyhound definitely loves the rug by the fire, sunning in the garden and the walks!
You are always welcome
We had a great time in Crich and the surrounding area. The cottage was very warm and cosy one of the best we have stayed in. The garden was perfect for our 2 whippets to safely zoom around in. The owner was very helpful and answered all our questions about checking in etc. We would love to return in the summer to enjoy the garden in bloom. Thank you
A great little cottage which is bigger on the inside than the outside suggests. Lounge comfortable and kitchen/diner extension spacious and well equipped. Good sized bedrooms with comfortable beds.
Ideal for dog owners with walks nearby and beyond. The nearby tramway museum is superb with it's recreations of a Victorian village. The next-door neighbours were very friendly and helpful.
A couple of minor issues: the steps at the front could do with a handrail and the fittings for the curtains are flimsy and collapsed on a couple of occasions.

Hi Alan thanks for the nice review. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Which curtain rail is flimsy? I have not had any complaints yet and will look into it.
Kind regards Annick
As it took my little old fingers a little while to grapple with the key box I felt my heart sink.
But on opening the door I was absolutely delighted to find a fresh, clean and light little cottage tastefully decoratrd and we'll appointed. Two hugely comfortable bedrooms easily negotiated stairs, a perfect kitchen and a working shower - the decor is so lovely with little touches of Germany (schoen) Fizz glasses, good sized pans and lovely crockery.
Bless you Number 45

Recent Get Away To Crich
My first communication I had was from our booking site telling us to check in after 3:30pm. Then we received an email from the host stating we could check in after 2:30pm.
We arrived to the property just after 3:30pm to find the front door open and the host still inside cleaning.
We weren’t able to really unpack until 3:45pm when the host left…
There was rubbish left in the bin and a mug left on the draining board for us to dry and put away.
We were informed there were towels in the property, we could not find this no matter how hard we searched. We were told there was a night light for the bottom of the stairs, it took us until our last night to find it on top of a high shelf.
Overall, the property was nice and for a quick get away, it was lovely… especially with the large garden for the dog to play in.
Property is close to multiple extractions such as the Crich Tramway Museum which is just around the corner.
Lovely area to stay and we would come back to the area again.

Hello Sarah, sorry to see your critical review. I believe I left 10min after you arrived, because I tidied the garden (pruned) while the sun was shining. I left 1 clean mug and a few wrappers in the fresh bin bag. I would have gladly explained where the towels were if you had rung me. Since Covid I don't put towels out routinely and in the booking email I ask people to bring their own towels if possible. There are towels stored in both bedrooms. I was unaware the night light was not in the socket at the bottom of the stairs, sorry .People that don't like it tend to leave it on the floor next to the socket. I will pay more attention to it's whereabouts next time.
I hope you still enjoyed your stay.
I quite like to meet the people that stay in my cottage, but it was clear that you didn't approve when you arrived, sorry.
Regards
Annick
Annick's cottage was cosy, nice and quiet and well located for a working break. Lots of lovely walks nearby and the house was a good sized cottage with a nice bright kitchen.
A lovely cosy cottage, with a garden, which my dogs loved , lovely walks on our doorsteps , walking distance to the village of Crich, we ate in the Black Swan and had a delicious curry from the local Indian, the sun shone all weekend, the owner Annick was so helpful, I would definitely recommend this gem to friends and family and I hope we can visit again in the near future, Sally and family x
Lovely few days in a beautiful part of the country, cottage provided every we needed.
Had lovely few days away staying at this cottage, lovely safe garden for our pup to play while we enjoyed a drink after a busy day walking some of the paths close by.
Had a lovely stay here. Crich village is beautiful and the cottage is absolutely perfect. Positioned well for visiting the Peak District. Will be back for sure.
Came to area to visit son and granddaughters, who live with mother in law in Ripley. I drove the 15 minutes to get them and we spent lots of time together which was lovely. Drove them home again in the evening. Location fantastic. Lovely and peaceful. Would definitely stay again.
Lovely property and host was very responsive.
Beware that home away email may go to your junk inbox. Communications were difficult as a result of this.
We loved this cottage. It had everything we needed and was warm, cozy and comfortable. Great attention to detail and thoughtful instructions. A short 10 minute walk to Crich Stand gives a panoramic view of the stunning countryside. In the field around the corner, opposite the Cliff Inn is a friendly Alpaca (or Llama?) That was a quirky bonus! We will definitely be back.
Amazing everything thought about .great cosy cottage
Excellent rental had for 5 wks visiting family locally . Great location to all near by towns and motorway . Would definitely recommend this cottage . Great response with company and owner .Easy to book and make payment s x

Good location.
We only booked for 3 days which wasn't enough for all the things to do and see in Derbyshire. The cottage was perfect for us, both in size, position and comfort and had a lovely shower room. The Tram Museum was just around the corner and a local pub, the Cliff Inn, did lovely food. We hope to visit again sometime.

About the host

I have always loved the Peak District and got this cottage to get away from a busy working life. I would now like to share it with others and hope you will enjoy it as much here as I have always done!!
Why they chose this property
Bought in 2010 as a second home to get away from the pressure of work and have long walks with the dog and meet up with friends "in peace". Crich is such a lovely village.
What makes this property unique
I am still in love with the cottage and the area. The house is small but very cosy with lots of light. I love the kitchen leading up to the private patio/ back garden and have the door open all the time, as soon as it is warm enough. The back garden is sun drenched all day (when the sun is out). It is an easy walk to the shops and pubs and you have lovely walks in all directions without getting in the car. Lots of off lead walking for the dog. A bus stop across the road, if you don't want to drive or for linear walks with a bus ride back home ( eg to Cromford: easy walk down and flat along the beautiful Cromford Canal. Several tea rooms, pub, fish and chips,Cromford Mill and quite an amazing book shop by the lovely pond)
