Very well furnished home with comfortable beds. Beautiful location very close to all amenities. Make sure to get any groceries on the mainland before you head over and don't forget coffee, filters and the salt and pepper!

There is a Town ordinance on Madeline Island that specifically states that you can not have any perishable food items left in rentals. Such as but not limited to coffee, salt, pepper, spices and oils or anything like that so make sure that everyone brings all of your own supplies.

The living room was spacious and comfortable, as was the dining room and bedrooms. The kitchen provided no condiments so we had to purchase new condiments for general simple cooking. The kitchen provided only one towel for the three day visit. Each bathroom was equipped with only one roll of toilet paper for seven people for three nights each. The front porch was clean and comfortable. The deck looked like it had not been cleaned all summer so we did not use it. The bar/party room smelled like a mixture of wet dog, mothballs and diesel fuel so we did not use it.

No rental properties on the island are allowed to leave condiments. I don’t know about you, but I don’t wanna use someone else’s mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise. The reason the bar/breezeway smelled strange was because we’ve had smoke and extremely dangerous air condition in our area from the boundary Waters being on fire for days, the entire time of this particular woman’s visit.. smoke, couldn’t see the sun, and Ash falling and in theair the entire time they were there. I am the owner and I clean it myself. That is why The back Deck looked like it hadn’t been used because there’s ash on everything. I assure you I I am the owner and I also clean the house between rentals and Itake great care in my property and like they said the inside was very accommodating and much tighter windows and doors to the main house then the bar and breezeway to keep the smoke out.
Perfect house for our group of 10. Plenty of room with a separate bar area in the breezeway. The ice machine was a huge bonus for us too. We enjoyed our stay and host was friendly and helpful.
This home was THE perfect place to stay on Madeline Island. We could walk into town, had a great bonfire pit, great porch to sit and watch people go by, etc. We would definitely rent again!
My family and I really enjoyed staying at Clair’s place. So quite and relaxing and the beds were all really comfortable- the most important thing to me!
Location was great. Plenty of room for a group of friends and family
There was no coffeemaker and kitchen did not have pans so would recommend bringing your own if you plan to cook meals

We have a coffee Maker and pots and pans in the cabinet by the range. These guests just didn’t look hard enough or call, also, I am on the island with a pole barn, full of extra pots and pans, extra coffee makers, and other rental necessities , because when you live on an island you have to have back up. I make sure all my renters know my phone number and that I am on the island 24/7 and if they need anything they can just call(I am never more than 10 minutes away). Unfortunately these guests did not call and ask where the coffee maker and pots and pans were so they went without.
We had a lovely time enjoying the island. Our two families were comfortable in this charming home. We played with the kids in the beautiful spacious yard and enjoyed making dinners together in the well stocked kitchen.
We came to the island for a family reunion, we stayed a few extra days and rented this house for some of the extended family so we could host some events for the island residents. House worked out well.
We had a great time staying at Clair's house. The house has enough space to all be together, and also to find private space when needing to have some alone time. The gas grill needed a new propane tank and Clair responded right away and brought a new one to the house.
We enjoyed our stay immensely and are anticipating our return. The home is well maintained and spotless when we arrived. We loved spending time on the porch, or on the deck while enjoying grilled meals. A short drive both to the town of La Pointe and to Big Bay Town Park, it has a great central location. We finished our time at the beach with a relaxing outdoor shower. A great way to enjoy Madeline Island!
The house was clean and we enjoyed our stay. The propane on the grill was empty and I called the host. He was prompt and sent us the full tank right away.
I really enjoy to stay in the place, really nice and conform beds and pillows, if you goin to stay here bring your own salt and pepper, sugar and oil, they have all the kitchen utensils, really nice area to stay, everything is close to the house like 3 min driving, love the places for a fire pit, there is a scary frame for a girl, There is a book in the house the tells you a history of a girl who is missing in the house, and now everyone said she is living in the basement, even that she is not longer with us with respect her place because at some point it was her house. There is a picture frame of her in the hallway.
Such a great place -- so much room, and it just felt (in a good way) like my great grandparents' farmhouse. It is a tad farther from town than we usually stay, but we really didn't notice. Beds are comfortable, plenty of places to gather, or have your own space. It was unusually hot on the island -- I have never wanted air conditioning before -- but Clair had so many fans for us that the place cooled off quickly. I would recommend they get a few wine glasses, and the front door lock is a tad tricky (we weren't always able it get it to latch). But really: nonissues! Oh, and I don't know if I missed this on the description, but there was no bar soap, so plan to bring your own. Again, a super minor issue which would in NO WAY preclude us from staying here again!
The location to town is nice, big yard, nice deck. Good bathrooms and sleeping space. Plenty of TP, towels. Its one of those places that cleans everything so its a pain in the rear to not have salt, pepper, and coffee. My base benchmark for convenience. I like the pay it forward where the previous people leave some things and we leave some things. The main item that was troublesome was that the owner for weeks before kept asking about the number of people. The house is listed as max 16 people but you pay $50 each night for every person over 4 people. I had an average of 8 but every night was different becuase some could only stay 1 or 2 nights. I had to keep reporting how many were my totals. Our ages were 34 to 60 so it was not like we had plans to throw a party and go way over the limit.
It was a good stay but its nice not to have to worry about small things.
The outdoor shower was aweome.
frustrating was the re non stop asking

Overall, this property worked well for our group needs. They also got us in early which was nice. We had one weird experience with the host. The host's mother reported to the host that we had a bunch of children sitting on the deck that weren't on our reservation. The host then then called me, texted me, messaged me and urgently asked us to contact her while we were out trying to enjoy our time on the island. I called her back and she sounded fairly adamant that we had children on the deck and had more people than were on our reservation. We are all in our mid to late thirties and definitely only had nine people, which was noted on our reservation. Quite a few of us either own or clean rental properties in another area. In our experience, if you disrupt a renter's stay and accuse a renter of something like this you should be certain and not act on impulse. It just seemed a bit unprofessional and made very uncomfortable that people were watching us while trying to enjoy the house. We would have enjoyed the backyard more, but there were no cushions for the outdoor furniture which made them very uncomfortable. So we needed to utilize the front porch more more than we otherwise would have. But again we are all adults and no children were present. Be prepared to pretty much clean the entire house before you go. We got really nervous about being charged extra despite there being a cleaning fee with what was written on the checkout notes. Still enjoyed our time.

It is a very small community on Madeline Island and we all have to watch out for each other, especially in the rental business. The reason she was called is because she had more people than she booked for which can happen a lot towards the arrival date of a trip. We just asked that you let us know in advance and she didn’t communicate with me at all after I was gracious enough to give her an early check-in. I am very respectful of my guest and I aim to give them the best experience and comfort I can as you can see in most all of my other reviews
A beautiful home on the island. Had everything we needed. Nice outdoor space for playing catch. Lovely time at the camp fire. Very comfortable for our group of 10 (2 families 5)
My group has been coming to Madeleine island for 30+ years. First time renting this property. It was perfect for us. Plenty of room, great outdoor spaces. A beautiful bar area. Within walking distance to town. Our 1st night we were visited by a bear! He left us alone but enjoyed the garbage! Property owner was quick to respond and even came to pick up and take the garbage away. We had a great time and would definitely rent this house again!
Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home,
Jackie ( my island name)
Our family of 12 stayed in this beautiful Farmhouse on Madeline Island! The kitchen was well stocked, the house was very, very, clean, and the house was spacious! We loved all the room to be seated; in the living room, dining room, enclosed porch, and front porch! What a nice treat to have a commercial ice maker! Clair, our host, responded promptly to any questions we had. The Island was wonderful; we especially enjoyed the beautiful sandy beaches and magnificent waters of Lake Superior! We will definitely be back!
I eyed up this property the summer before when we were staying at another place down the road. It was great to have AC and comfortable beds. PLUS, we loved using the hiking path which is right down the road. We hiked through the woods every morning, explored town and then hiked back.
This house was just what we needed. We eloped on the island and had a small number of family and friends celebrate with us. It was raining so we were unable to spend time in the yard, but the front porch and bar area were a fine backup. The host was flexible and kind to us. We would recommend a stay on this property to anyone!
Clair's lovely home was perfect for 5 friends old friends to getaway and relax. Yard and Deck are beautiful, the beds were comfortable and the large dining room table perfect for playing games. We absolutely LOVED Madeline Island and would definitely recommend Claire's home as a place to stay.

I have lived on the Island my whole life, I met and married my amazing husband Clayton from Montana 15 years ago, and have been raising our children here ever since. We spend most of our time outdoors, whether it be working on the island or riding our beautiful horses.
Why they chose this property
This property is centrally located between down town LaPointe and the beautiful beaches of the State and Town Parks. It has a lot to offer, plenty of room for big gatherings( a few of my friends mentioned having their wedding here) or romantic enough for two. Plenty of space to enjoy outside activities, such as tag, Tee-ball , horse shoes, or just some all around kind hearted shenanigans ( bring these games with you because we don't have them). This property has much vision, if you are thinking about it ,we could pull it off.
