This charming terraced cottage takes its name from the mature apple tree in the garden, which in season produces a generous harvest of fruit that guests are welcome to enjoy.
The interior has been thoughtfully designed, combining stylish décor with comfort and practicality. Downstairs, there is a well-equipped kitchen and a spacious living room where guests can relax and enjoy views over the garden. Wildlife is often spotted here, with birds feeding and the occasional red squirrel visiting the feeder. The enclosed lawned garden is perfect for soaking up the sunshine, with colourful flower beds and rockery planting. A gate at the end of the garden leads directly to the village pub, just a few steps away.
The Sun Inn, less than 25 metres from the cottage, is a multi-award-winning pub and restaurant and a much-loved local destination, known for its food, atmosphere, and excellent selection of cask ales. Parking is plentiful, free of charge, and located just a short 20-second walk from the cottage.
For those who enjoy walking, hiking, or cycling, there is excellent access to local routes as well as more challenging fells including Skiddaw, Catbells, Latrigg, and Blencathra. Less than three miles away are two major attractions: an award-winning, internationally recognised wildlife park with over 100 species and a highly regarded café, and the famous Lakes Distillery, offering tours, tastings, a shop, café, restaurant, and even a herd of alpacas.
The popular town of Keswick is just 8 miles away on the shores of Derwentwater and offers a wide range of shops, cafés, restaurants, and attractions. Supermarkets including Booths, Co-op, and a late-opening convenience store are all available here. Keswick is also home to the Theatre by the Lake, The Pencil Museum, and The Puzzling Place. Cockermouth, birthplace of William Wordsworth, is also nearby, while the coast can be reached in around 17 miles.

Second visit, great cottage in a small lakeland village.
Second visit, great cottage in a small lakeland village. It's a base for walks and exploring the northern lakes. The cottage is well stocked and next door to the Sun Inn, well worth a visit.

Had a lovely few days would definitely go back the cottage was perfect beautiful would definitely recommend this cottage carnt wait to go back
Apple Tree Cottage was simply beautiful, with all the facilities you need - even a hairdryer. There was a fabulous, quiet garden to sit out in, but the best part was the lovely welcome we got from Michael who met us personally, showed us around and left a basket of provisions including a home baked cake and some Prosecco! Would highly recommend this cottage for a peaceful, pleasant stay.

An all too brief stay, but an extremely enjoyable one, made even better by the excellent and unexpected welcome pack awaiting our arrival (including a cake to die for, well to fight over anyway). The cottage itself has been decorated and furnished in a quiet, understated way, very well appointed and spotlessly clean, tidy and comfortable throughout. We were looking for walking days, from the village, taking in both lakeside and mountain terrain. We were not disappointed. I can recommend the walk up Ullock Pike from which there is a horseshoe extension that takes in the summit of Skiddaw - and all within sight of the cottage way down below. A rewarding pint in The Sun Inn on returning leaves one facing a fully twenty seconds walk back to the cottage. Shopping is best done on the way to the village as there are no out of season facilities, but Keswick is close by and worth some time exploring anyway. Our hosts Michael and Hazel could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. I would heartily recommend the cottage for those wishing to immerse themselves in this quiet and lovely part of the Lakes.

Great cottage apart from the very steep stairs.
Great cottage apart from the very steep stairs. Lovely welcome pack and very clean. Heating didn’t come on so was a bit chilly in the evening and first thing in the morning. Duvet was a bit heavy for us but probably most people would like it.

The cottage is well maintained, clean and comfortable.
The cottage is well maintained, clean and comfortable. The kitchen has all you need, there is even an ironing board but no iron. The stairs to upstairs are a challenge for anybody with mobility issues being quite steep and shallow. The garden is well kept and is a sun trap when the sun shines. There is no back door.
We were welcomed by the owner who left us with bread, eggs, marmalade, jam, milk , butter and a bottle of cava and a fruit cake.
The village is quiet but does have a popular pub which was always busy with people eating whenever we popped in. The nearest shop is at the camping site which is a ten to fifteen minute walk away.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Lovely cottage.
Lovely cottage. Modern decor, but very monochrome. Needs some colour added as grey everything became depressing as it was cloudy outside all week. Beds were comfortable. Needs roller blind at bathroom door for privacy. Dvd hummed when playing. Garden tidy and relaxing. Ideal for walks from cottage.

Excellent cottage, very well appointed.
Excellent cottage, very well appointed. Spotlessly clean and everything one needs is there. The hosts were very friendly and there was an attractive welcome basket, including some fresh eggs, bread and milk (very useful since we forgot to take any with us). A quiet and peaceful part of the Lakes, well away from the honeypots and crowds, yet only 15 minutes from Keswick. The garden is well cared for and attractive..a lovely place to sit in when the weather is good. The Sun Inn is just next door, and serves good quality pub food, if a little expensive. There is no village shop, but Booths supermarket in Keswick is excellent. One watch out in the cottage is the stairs, which are quite steep and could be problematic for anyone with impaired mobility. Overall an ideal bolt-hole. Would we go again? Definitely!
