Property located in St John’s in the Vale, a beautiful quiet valley just 4 miles from Keswick. Gill and Duncan are wonderful hosts providing you with everything you can think of and then more. We have stayed more times than I can remember now, and the standard is always superb. I can’t recommend this property enough!
A lovely warm, comfortable and very well appointed cottage. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it. Plenty of space ,wonderful views and helpful , friendly owners.
Just enjoyed our third stay at Bram Cragg and have no hesitation in recommending this as a wonderful holiday choice. The cottage is so cosy and comfortable with amazing views. Gillian and Duncan are perfect hosts, very welcoming and there if you need them. We have also stayed in one of their lodges and this was of an equally high standard. Hope to be able to return next year.
Had the most amazing stay, the cottage was absolutely lovely, warm, clean, fantastic views and had everything you needed home from home. Gill the host was lovely. This was one of the best cottages we have stayed in for cleanliness and perfect bedding. Everything about the cottage was of high standard.
We spent 4 days here and loved every minute. The house is so comfortable and welcoming after our long journey. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We wanted to stay longer!
Our third visit , and as good as ever. First Rate!
We love staying at this property. It was our third visit in 3 years, and we fully intend to book again next year.
Bram Cragg Cottage is perfectly located in a rural setting, yet only 12 minutes from Keswick.
With 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms it is perfect for a family with children, or for two couples.
The views from all rooms, (and even more from the garden and summer house) are wonderful!
We have been regular visitors to Bram Cragg and its related properties for several years often coming 3 or 4 times a year. We come back because we always know that we will get a warm welcome to a charming property in one of the loveliest valleys in the Lake District. The properties are always clean and well prepared and equipped to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Try it, you’re missing out if you don’t!
We have stayed here and the lodges a few times now due to the excellent standard of the holiday accommodation its location and the beautiful walks nearby. There is everything you need for your stay at the Cottage the beds are comfortable and the property is warm and inviting and on a nice day you can sit out and view the lovely picturesque scenery around you whilst drinking a local libation.
The Hosts are very accommodating and we will definitely be back hopefully later in the year.
Beautiful cottage in a peaceful setting. So many walks directly from the cottage. Close enough for the convenience that Keswick offers but secluded enough for a tranquil break.
Our second visit to this wonderful house near Keswick. Everything catered for and set up ahead of our arrival, including baby gates. Great hosts in a perfect location. Looking forward to returning next year!
A beautifully located, well equipped, warm and clean cottage. We had a lovely week. Lovely extra touches- summer house, homemade cake on arrival - too.
The cottage felt like a real home from home and it is really well positioned to visit Ullswater and Windermere as well as Keswick. There is a very nice outside space with a swing and summer house and views across the valley. The kitchen was really well equipped.
We would definitely like to come again.
Wonderful property with plenty of space and homely touches to help us settle in. Lovely modern kitchen and bathrooms. Cosy to return to after hikes in the mountains.
Gillian and Duncan made us feel very welcome.
We enjoyed a great week in this lovely property - probably the best self catering cottage we have ever stayed in. We have already booked to return in October!
Within easy reach of Keswick, the cottage combines a quiet location, surrounded by beautiful countryside, with great access to to all essential services.

Perfect
Lovely cottage, quiet, warm and cosy, very well equipped with everything you could want, will be back for sure.
Lovely cottage in a nice quiet area. Spacious, clean and well equipped. The views from the cottage are amazing and there was plently of space for the kids to play, the field was fantastic. We really enjoyed our week there. The two collie's Bonnie and Fly were a highlight, popping up outside the kitchen window to say Hi, and fantastic around the kids.
Bram Cottage is excellent. Immaculate accommodation, breathtaking views . Friendly hosts. We will definitely like to return sometime.

The cottage was immaculate and in a beautiful location; such peace and tranquility and with stunning views. A great place for exploring the Lake District. Gillian and Duncan were superb hosts and we are looking forward to a return visit.
Brilliant week at Bram Cragg Cottage. We were surprised at how big the cottage was and it had everything we needed. We stayed in February and the weather was mixed but the cottage was always warm and cosy. It’s centrally located within easy reach of Keswick and Grasmere. Would highly recommend. Thank you Gillian and Duncan!

About the host
Hosted by Mrs Gillian Stuart
Duncan was born in Threlkeld & Gillian in Newlands. Duncan is a builder by trade and I worked on the family dairy & sheep farm before raising our daughter & son, helping on building projects then running the holiday lets at Bram Cragg from 1993. Duncan, since fell running, is a keen mountain biker a sport that has taken our family all over the UK. Gillian has been taking part in local dog agility events since 2006. Any spare time and we walk the fell tops with our dogs & family.
Why they chose this property
Bram Cragg Farm being owned & loved by Gillians grandparents since 1974 and has been in our controle since 1993 and ownership from 2008. We renovated & developed it until 2014 with Duncan using his 35 years of building expertise & family help to make it the holiday choice of many returning guests. You can't help but fall in love with the setting of Bram Cragg set among the fells in a sceinic valley. The 50 acre of land is now stocked with our neighbourghs quality limousan breeding beef cattle and swaledale or cheviot breeding sheep from April to October and we maintain the land all the year round.
What makes this property unique
Bram Cragg Farm looks unchanged with the oldest part dating from 1688. Buildings were added as dairy and sheep farming grew and mining, railways and reservoirs expanded the population. We have been allowed to develop the byre and hay loft above to provide holiday accommodation with lovely views and we replaced two existing static caravans with two larger modern lodges. These have more comfort and space for up to four guests, more privacy for all guests but with open unrestricted views of fells & fields.
