About this property
Matilda Cottage - Berry village centre hideaway
Stay in the heart of the village but with the quietness and privacy of acres!
Gather like-minded friends from book groups, knitting clubs, foodies or whatever your passion and get away from the bustle of day-to-day life.
Small Pets are allowed, they need to be house trained, well behaved.
The small Cottage yard has pebble stones. There is no grass area, though there is a back gate leading onto a small park.
Upstairs:
1 x queen size bedroom with ensuite (small bath, shower & toilet) and television
1 x bedroom with 2 x king singles and own bathroom (shower & toilet)
Both bathrooms feature beautiful artisan soaps which have been hand crafted.
Downstairs:
1 x King sofa that can be used as 2 x singles or arranged side by side as 1 x queen bed (not a pull-out) with powder room close by.
Outdoor shower that is perfect for that after beach refresh.
Fully equipped kitchen, but with so many fabulous cafes and restaurants close by, take some time off from cooking.
Relax in the comfortable living area and catch up on some reading or tune into the digital television with Apple TV and Netflix. Grab a book from the library or play one of the boardgames or puzzles.
A bluetooth Beats speaker is available to play your own music.
WEEKEND RATES: cover 4 x guests with an additional charge for Guests 5 and 6.
Foodie delights for all:
Relax out on the sheltered north facing verandah with a fragrant coffee or soothing tea through the morning and replace with a chilled glass of wine or craft beer through the afternoon.
Buy local wines directly from the cellar doors, or visit Justin Lill Wines at 112a Queen Street where all wines are hand selected by Justin with a detailed knowledge of grapes and vintages.
Delicious cheeses and olives and the best duck pate ever from The Emporium Food Co delicatessen at 127b Queen Street, or local produce from the Taste of Shoalhaven in Broughton Court will add to your enjoyment as the sun slips behind the picturesque escarpment.
Stroll across the road to Berry's newest breakfast and lunch venue, Salmon and Co. at 71 Queen Street where Rabbit & Co provide a funky cafe with a distinctly vintage style, serving HYPER HYPER coffee.
Slip next door then, to exquisite boutique shopping at Moss Nest.
Other favourite eateries and restaurants include:
* South on Albany, 3/65 Queen Street (cnr Albany St) has an emphasis on sourcing the freshest seasonal and local produce and has been awarded One Hat.
* Bussola has fab modern Italian.
* Milkwood Bakery, 109 Queen Street for organic sourdough bread, mouthwatering array of cakes and pastries and freshly made juices.
* The Hungry Monkey is new to town and serves fab burgers.
* Il Locale Gelato, 114 Queen Street exclusively serving locally produced gelato from The Pines, Kiama and locally roasted coffee.
* The Post House, Cnr. Queen and Prince Alfred Streets offers a casual yet delicious fusion of Thai and Vietnamese meals.
* For your classic country pub experience, you can't beat The Berry Hotel at 120 Queen Street where through the summer months you can enjoy your choice of beverage sitting in the open windows as you watch village life pass you by along the street. Winter is the perfect time to sit by one of the comforting open fires.
Excellent 'Retail Therapy' is available right along the Queen Street strip and also beyond with favourites being:
Cabana Jos, Moss Nest, Haven & Space - homewares, Bliss & Co, The Bead Bar, The Flying Pig - for bespoke art and the list goes on.
What to do in Berry:
Various festivals are held through out the year and the Berry monthly markets are not to be missed.
Regular Events:
Farmer’s Market is held each Thursday, at the Berry Showground from 3-5pm.
Berry Markets on the first Sunday of the month, visitors will find an array of handcrafted goods and foods, along with plants, jewellery and great gift ideas at The Berry Showgrounds.
Berry Produce Market is held twice a month on the second and fourth Sundays from 8am to 2pm in Andrew Place. Visit for your fresh fruit and veg, free range eggs, honey and much more.
Annual Events:
The Berry Show held on the first weekend of February over Friday and Saturday with fantastic animal displays and pavilion exhibitions along with evening entertainment on both nights.
The Berry Quilt Show is held on the first weekend of May and brings together an exhibition of beautiful quilts and generally featuring the work of one outstanding quilter.
The Berry Gardens Festival is an outstanding display of both village and acreage gardens.
Our local Rotary Club hosts a couple of events each year:
The Berry Celtic Festival in late May
The Berry Small Farm Field Days held in early September
A family fun event on New Year's eve culminating with fireworks.
Walks are also a feature of the area:
Drawing Room Rocks is not to be missed. These are the best directions to find where to start your ascent:
Take Woodhill Mountain Rd (north side of the village), drive 6.7 kms and you will come to a T intersection, you are on the top of the T and turning left would take you to Kangaroo Valley via Wattamolla.
Either park your car here at the T-intersection, or there is limited parking 500 metres away at the true start to the walk (at the cattle grid).
From the T-intersection, walk or drive 200 metres to a right hand fork in the road (do not take either of the right-hand driveways which are near the T-intersection), it is then 300 metres to the cattle grid. From this point it is a steady walk upwards until you reach the lookout where the view and rock formation are stunning.
Your descent will be much quicker than the ascent.
Also worth a visit are:
Bundewallah Walking Track through pristine rainforest.
The Kiama to Gerringong Coast walk.
Golf Courses in the local region include:
The Kangaroo Valley Golf and Country Club
The Shoalhaven Heads Golf Course
The Gerringong Golf Course

About the host
Hosted by Bernadette Robinson

I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in berry surrounded by the beautiful bush. My biggest passion is horse riding, at the moment I ride a horse called Slim, we love going for rides along seven mile beach. When I’m not in a saddle I’m working in my boutique, Regal On Queen!
