Games, DVDs, toys and a highchair are permanently located in the cottage with a cot available on request.
Outside there are two sheltered courtyards overlooking the mature gardens, outdoor table setting, BBQ, cubby house, clothesline and ample off-street parking. You can also say hello to the friendly alpaca (Stewart) and the minature sheep (Posset and Wellington) over the back fence.
Fenced rear yard for pets to explore. Paid pet sitting is available (by appointment) to enable days or evenings out to explore the local area whilst leaving your 4 legged friend in safe hands. Message for more info if this is of interest to you and we can put you in contact with our pet sitter to check their availability.
Heysen Hideaway dates from the 1860’s and pre-dates the township of Summertown itself. It is the last of three cottages built to accommodate the market gardeners who produced fruit and vegetables for the expanding new city of Adelaide. Built from local materials, the walls are constructed of a combination of creek stones and mud. The window frames and ceilings in the old part of the cottage are original with a sympathetic extension being added to the rear of the cottage in the 1970’s. Whilst so much of the cottage is original, the rooms are light, bright, warm and quiet – the perfect location for a home away from home.

We had the best time at Heysen Hideaway! Such a beautiful location, well heated in the colder months with excellent restaurants and stores nearby. We loved our stay here!
It’s was beautiful presented property. Very clean and comfortable and well equipped.Unfortunately there was no breakfast provided eg eggs milk bread bacon etc which was very disappointing. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Lovely property, quiet, very comfortable beds. Friendly animals in surrounding paddocks keen to say hello. Very relaxing. 2 TVs and 2 lounge areas is a great idea, no argument over what to watch in the evening
Lovely little property with a lovely garden. Bit steep for my 87yr old Mum to wander. Very comfortable and a great place to just unwind, relax or finish that pair of socks you are knitting. Great area if you want to check out the wineries or go for some lovely drives.

Would've given that extra star but the lawn mower man arrived at the same time on the first day as I did and worked for 1½hrs. And on the last day the gardener was there for two hrs before my check out. Would've preferred the place to myself for some quiet time. But other than that I feel in love with the place. It is so pretty, and the gardener and lawn mower men did a good job
We were so happy to be back after 7 years! It felt as if we were back home! My favourite part of the house is of course the fully-equipped kitchen; a motivation to cook healthy food for the family although we were on vacation.
The simple Christmas decor added to the festive spirit. It was definitely awesome to wake up to see the cute alpacas and sheep out in the field having their breakfast haha. We miss those darlings! (We are still trying to figure out which one is Stewart and which is Dumpling haha!)
Heysen Hideaway is at the countryside but yet close to the city. Peaceful. Very calming. Perfect place for our special needs son too.
Thank you so much for sharing the home with us. Will be back, hopefully not too long :)

A very peaceful, clean, and cozy place to stay with such a beautiful garden. Love waking up with the sounds of a crowing rooster and chirping birds. Stunning sunrise. We cooked a yummy breakfast from the bread, egg, bacon, and mushroom that is provided. Perfect place to have some rest. Thanks you.
The Heysen Hideaway was very well presented. Very tidy and clean. There was plenty of bedding to suite our requirements. Rooms were of good size. Separate toilet to the bathroom is a big plus. Wood fire was a big hit as it was cold. Childs toys on site were well enjoyed by grandson. Only one minor issue was traffic noise using the road as a racetrack into the early hours of the morning.
Beautiful little cottage lovely fire, comfy beds good space with 2 living areas comfy sofas and cushions, pretty garden loved staying at Heysen hideaway and will be back !!!
Loved our 3 night hills stay, gorgeous property with lovely décor - loved the mix of modern and new pieces. Really felt like home, my Mum's words were "I could live here"! Alpacas warmed up to me eventually haha, caramel Dumpling you were very inquisitive :p
thank you Joanne.
Fantastic, homely environment. So quiet. Good for two couples or a family. Beautiful views. Well stocked for breakfast and able to cater for special needs. A truly wonderful place. Would love to go back.
A lovely property that provided all we needed for a long weekend in the Hills. Beautiful decor, all the comforts of home and a thoughtful selection of breakfast goodies left for us to enjoy. Such a good spot to branch out from and sample all the Adelaide Hills has to offer.
