Beautiful home! We enjoyed our stay - so relaxing and calm. The accommodations are excellent. We explored the area and felt right at home. The weather was quite warm, and the AC worked great. But it was too hot to enjoy the lovely backyard. I would definitely recommend this spot!
This was the best stay ever. So beautifully put together, great amenities, comfortable beds and a gorgeous spot. We were sad to leave, we are looking for more reasons to travel to Sooke so we can stay again, loved it.
What an incredible place to stay for a month! Laura and Steve were amazing hosts. The accommodations were super clean and modern with everything necessary to make our trip comfortable. Their location is paradise and we made lots of use of the Galloping Goose trail right behind their property (and others in the area). We will definitely be back!!
We had a lovely stay at this quiet oasis. The space is so well-appointed, peaceful, and comfortable. This is our second time staying with Laura, but hopefully not our last. A gracious host who gives true care!

Beautiful property! Space allowed us to enjoy home made meals and relax after days at the beach and hikes!
Highly reccommend.
This location was amazing. The BnB was beautiful and the local trails were awesome. Laura the host was quick to respond and very hospitable. I highly recommend this BnB.
We loved our stay in this delightful cottage. The unit is well maintained, very clean, and beautifully designed. The kitchen is large, well stocked, and gorgeous. We slept in the king bed and it was very comfortable. The bathroom is stylish, well lit, and spacious. Highly recommended.
This was our third time. As usual, Laura was a great hostess. She always came to the rescue providing anything we needed - from Body wash to butter. The private back yard is great for humans and animals.
Great stay, with large fenced yard for our dog. Hosts were very helpful to find an emergency vet for us, as well as general info for the area. Modern kitchen and bath. Quiet neighborhood.
Will stay here again.
Beautiful property and a great host. Laura answered all communication promptly and was really helpful in navigating the area. Very quiet space with room for our two dogs to roam.
Exceptional. Make use of the trails, drive to the beaches, discover the community. This cottage is a gem of a home. It’s beautifully finished, conveniently appointed and a lovely escape from the city.
Our stay was absolutely impeccable. The property has such a warm and welcoming feeling, and the owners have put a lot of love and care into the River House. I love the sustainable development of the property.
We spent a beautiful day at the Sooke Potholes and couldn't have asked for a better home and place to vacation.
We had the pleasure of staying at this property Labour Day weekend and it did not disappoint! It is as lovely in person as it is online. Beautifully decorated and perfect for two couples or a small family. The yard for the dogs was such a bonus, and the owners were super dog friendly as well, which is soooo hard to come by these days. The location is lovely as well, just a few minutes from the Sooke Potholes and a few from Town. Quiet and peaceful...would %100 stay here again! The owners are super lovely people as well.
Everything at River House was just spectacular. The architecture and accomodations are beautiful and so thoughtfully done, and the location is perfect. My pup also appreciated the fenced in side yard for bathroom breaks :)
Everything you could want is here and it's so lovely and clean. The hosts were super accomodating and friendly too.
Definitely will be back. Thanks for everything!
We spent 4 great nights at this beautiful property. The cottage is newly renovated and beautifully decorated. We truly appreciated being able to bring our dog and having the secure back yard was an added bonus. Easy access to the galloping goose and the Sooke River. Close to so many trails (East Sooke Park and Matheson Lake) for good hikes. Though we were only a 45 minute drive to downtown Victoria, we felt we were a million miles away. We will definitely be back.
Corgi Doc loved the beautiful fenced yard. We loved everything. Beautiful cottage, lots of light, beautifully accommodated and wonderful location. Truly a magical little gem. My only suggestion would be for more hooks for coats, dog stuff and bags. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us, wish we could’ve stayed a few days longer.
This property was beyond perfect! You won't be disappointed. The house is adorable, designed perfectly, immaculate. Private patio and backyard. Backs up to the beautiful, stunning, galloping goose trail. We walked everyday on this tree lined trail. The owners are delightful! We would have loved to stay longer. Highly recommend and would love to come back! Thank you Laura!
Laura and Steve’s property is absolutely stunning!
Not only is this VRBO beautifully located for a West Coast holiday, it’s clear that the hosts have poured love into every aspect of their space… down to the tiniest detail! We felt wholly at home and cared for throughout our stay. Our pup included! Who loved lounging in the fenced yard and snuggling up on the pet-provided blankets! We truly enjoyed every moment spent at the River House and can’t wait to return one day.
Thank you so so much for making our stay, and intimate elopement, so incredible!
We stayed for 11 days with our Golden Retriever. She is 12 years old and needed a place without stairs due to arthritis. The cottage was perfect. It is surrounded by large evergreen trees with the added bonus of a Golden Eagle nest. Our host, Laura is a dog lover and instantly bonded with our pup. She was extremely responsive to our needs. The cottage has a fenced yard with a lawn, barbecue and picnic table. It has close direct access to the Galloping Goose trail for hiking and is close to the Sooke River. We would stay there again in a minute.
We were blown away at the quality of the location, the newness of the property, it’s degree of comfort, and the extent of it suitability as a vacation rental. Laura and Steve have created a green-forward space - ready for ebikes and electric vehicles with solar power and a lot of sunlight. Wandering across the road to take in the lovely meadow makes a great alternative for the dogs in this pet friendly rental when they need a break from the fenced back yard. Everything is new and bright. But if you also need a break, take those fully charged ebikes on the immediately adjacent and accessible Galloping Goose bike and walking trail. We did and those became highlights of the trip.
For 3 months I had the pleasure, to be a guest at Laura and Steve's lovely cottage. It was the perfect place for me to settle back into my Canadian life, after being abroad for a few years. The cottage met all my needs: private, with nature all around and my must-haves: coffee machine and internet :) The cottage has a well-equipped kitchen with modern appliances and in-suite laundry. It's spacious and tastefully west coast-style furnished and decorated. I felt very much at home there. Laura couldn't have been any kinder and sweeter. Was always quick to respond and help with whatever needed. Laura and Steve are wonderful hosts and I can only recommend their accommodation. Especially for those who want to actively explore the Westcoast beauty, with Galloping Goose trail literally in front of your doorstep, beaches, hiking trails, Sooke potholes and so much more. Thank you guys, for everything!
We have stayed at the "cottage" several times with and without a pet. Laura has put her heart and soul into the place and it really shows. The private backyard surrounded by a tall hedge is especially appreciated. The location on Sooke River Road is quiet at all times of the day. Easy access to the Galloping Goose Trail and the Sooke River is a bonus. Access to the town of Sooke is made easy by the existence of a traffic light where Sooke River Road meets the Sooke Highway. Book early as the cottage is very popular.
