Summary:
Close to CBD, Casino, Battery Point and Salamaca Markets." Little Halcyon" is a 1930s property in historic South Hobart, right where it borders the CBD. Kunanyi (Mt Wellington) is visible from the doorstep and yet a supermarket, wine shop, Japanese restaurant, pharmacy, petrol station and park are within 1-3 min walk. On-site parking and unmetered street parking makes car trips a breeze. We only use professionally laundered hotel-quality bedlinen.
The Space:
The house has many lovely period features, and we have filled it with carefully collected vintage pieces in a nod to its history and an eye to a sustainable future. As you step into the house, the mellow ambience will embrace you. Guests who love cooking and are tempted by the wonderful array of fresh and sometimes uniquely Tasmanian produce available at the many markets and providores around Hobart will find a real cook's kitchen made for entertaining with quality cookware, implements and appliances. There are herbs like bay, mint, lemon verbena, rosemary and thyme growing around the front and back gardens for your use in meals or drinks. There is a gourmet supermarket across the road which opens at 7am. Relax on the tranquil long back porch, surrounded by greenery while streaming your favourite playlists.
The house is several doors down from the corner with Davey Street which is a main arterial road. The house faces onto a busy residential street, and during business hours there is steady traffic travelling no more than 40kph. There is on-site parking by the side of the house for up to one car and unmetered parking on the street. The front bedrooms are positioned well back from the street. We don't find the traffic noise to be excessive and even our insomniac friends have slept well here. However, we don't want to disappoint you so if you are very sensitive to noise and a poor sleeper, please think again. Also, some parts of the house have beautiful but breakable glass panelling and household items. We are sharing them with you but ask that you please be careful with them. We recently had the heartwrenching experience of an intoxicated guest smashing the main leadlight glass panel in the principal bedroom door as well as the front gate to smithereens. That sort of glass is very difficult, if not impossible, to find nowadays. We still don't know if we can repair the leadlight to its original appearance. We respectfully ask that you don't book this house if you are bringing anyone who is likely to be unruly and break precious property.
