Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. The off-grid cabin over looks a pond, with birds present all year round. It is double glazed and fully insulated with kitchen, dining and sleeping areas, making it a comfortable self sufficient space for two people. Children or friends are able to pitch a tent(s) on the 'lawn'. The decor is quirky, with a strong animal theme evident throughout. The shower, composting toilet and an outdoor kitchen complete the space.
Enjoy your adventure! The space The decor is certainly quirky - you will be greeted by the Parking Duck on arrival. "Ducks" continuously swim in the pond, overlooked by pukekhos and even a Kereru (who also watches over you as you laze in the hammock). Birds also surround you while in the toilet. Inside animals feature on the backsplash, plates, drapes etc.
The cabin is set up to accommodate two people comfortably. However, there are extra plates. cutlery etc to ensure a much larger crowd can be catered for. The large decking area and outdoor table ensure everyone can get together.
While the cabin has all the amenities for self sufficiency, it is totally off-grid with only basic power facilities. There is a fridge, icebox, radio, lights and you will be able to charge phones and laptops. No hair dryers or electric toothbrushes etc please.
Extras may camp on the front lawn (still a work in progress). With the outdoor amenities available to them at any time.
Dogs are welcome, however not in the cabin. Guest access Guests enter from Norfolk road just 2ks from SH2, and access the cabin down a track which has been upgraded to ensure easy drive for smaller vehicles.
I like to greet all my guests and show them how to use the amenities. While an information sheet is in the cabin, I find showing is much better than telling.
You are welcome to explore the farm, wander to the river, look at the animals or just sit and chill. Other things to note The cabin overlooks a pond and near the river and while it is a lovely setting, does pose potential risks for young people.
The Wairarapa is known to be dry over the summer months and a total fire ban is put in place each year.
You will note earth works as you drive down to the cabin. These are on my neighbour's place. Work is not done every day, weekends or holidays and must finish by 4.30.
