Hale Huna ('Hidden House') is a wonderful cottage on a hillside near the end of the road on the North Shore of Kauai. Located on hill and a quiet cul-de-sac with only a few other local houses. Very private and peaceful (It is NOT on/near the highway like many Kauai rentals). Perfect for a family getaway or honeymoon cottage.
Our cottage had no flooding or leaks during the 2018 flood on the North Shore. It is above the regular tsunami inundation zone, but just within the extreme tsunami inundation zone if there's a 9.0 or greater magnitude earthquake in the Aleutian Islands. The safe zone can be reached by walking uphill to the other side of the street or by driving to Princeville.
Beautiful views of green mountains from backyard. Lush plant life, including mango, grapefruit, banana and lemon trees. Outdoor shower sheltered by tropical foliage. This is a small but charming and tastefully furnished plantation-style cottage with the feel of real Hawaii. Within five minutes drive of gorgeous sandy beaches: incredible snorkeling at Tunnels and Ke'e Beaches, world class surf at Hanalei Bay and picturesque Lumahai.
The closest town is charming Hanalei, which has restaurants, a grocery store, a health food store, shops, bars and more. Hanalei Bay is famous for its large crescent beach, winter surfing and calm summer waters. The stunning NaPali Coast is just minutes away (the mountains seen from the backyard are the back of the Pali's/Mountains).
The North Shore of Kauai is known for its lush tropical, rainforest-like climate and vegetation and low key lifestyle. It's a fantastic place to relax, read, swim, hike, surf, snorkel, eat fresh fish and my favorite, just walking on the beach looking for shells.

We absolutely loved our stay Kristi’s home on Kauai. The location was fantastic, tucked near Hanalei on arguably the most beautiful side of the island. Short distance to fantastic beaches and activities. The home itself was clean, had privacy, and all the amenities you’d expect or need for a vacation away.
The communications with the host were informative, friendly and timely. The house was well-stocked, especially the kitchen, which had every appliance and tool imaginable, enabling my son, who has culinary training, to prepare a wonderful dinner. And we loved the location among the tropical beauty!
I absolutely loved my time at this beautiful home. It’s nestled in such a peaceful neighborhood, surrounded by nature and a sense of calm. The house itself has been decorated with so much love and attention to detail that you’ll feel immediately at home. This truly has become one of my favorite places to stay on the island. I’d return in a heartbeat and can wholeheartedly recommend this special spot to anyone looking for a grounded, nourishing place to stay on Kauai.
This is the perfect private cottage on Kauai. This was my second time staying here because of its location on the North Shore. Close to Hanalei, Hā’ena State Park, and North Shore beaches. Quick response to any questions you may have. Thank you for another amazing vacation!
We loved everything about this house. The location is the best, close to Tunnels beach which is our favorite. We enjoyed the house, the kitchen has everything, just like home. Quiet neighborhood, quick drive to Hanalei. We would love to return here soon!
This was our second visit to Kauai and our first time staying on the North Coast of the island. The house was very comfortable and easy to locate. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking meals. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the lanai out back. You have a great view of the mountains and there are several spider lilies planted around the outdoor dining area, so the frangrance was great. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were well stocked with soft towels, liquid soap and shampoo. The washer and dryer worked well. There were multiple beach towels, snorkeling gear and an outdoor shower, which was great after spending a day on the beach to wash the sand and salt off. The grounds around the house were well tended and there are trees with bananas, grapefruit and limes on the property. I had fresh grapefruit with my breakfast twice. The key lockbox was easy to use and there was a spare key inside to take with you when you left the house. The house is about a 185 minute drive to Hanalei's shops and stores. The was a small market at the bottom of the hill below the house but they had a very limited offering of supplies like ice and drinks. If you're headed to the house, I would suggest stopping at the Food Land store in Princeville to stock up on groceries. They also have a great selection of fresh poke, sushi and deli items. Parking was never an issue. The property manager and owner were both great at following up on any questions we had during our stay.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. Although close to everything we felt secluded. We ventured around the island some, but always found ourselves wanting to head back to the north. Hanalei is a fun little town that didn't get to crazy busy. The food options are plenty in town ranging in price. Our favorite restaurant was Happy Talk in Princeville. The views and vibe were incredible. Tunnels and Hideaway were our favorite beaches. We saw 10-15 turtles per day in the water, which the kids really loved. When facing water the far right of the beach was best. The hike down to hideaway is a bit sketchy, so dont bring to much gear. We did try deep sea fishing and caught a 130lb tuna, and another 8 smaller ones. The captain gave us one of the smaller ones and enjoyed it for several days in the house. The ocean was rough, and if you are prone to motion sickness medication is a must. We also went zip lining and had a good time. Highly recommend hiking the Kalalau trail. Beautiful hike down the coast. We found it a little strenuous, but not to bad. You must get your permit exactly 30 days before, or you will not get a permit. I had to try a couple days to get one. The birds in the early morning at the house are like a symphony. The only problem I have was the rooster down the hill at 4:00am! (haha). Overall a great experience and we really love the northern part of the island. Correspondence with the host was prompt and helpful. The Balkins, MN
One can’t go wrong with this rental. Beautiful property, fruit-laden grapefruit trees, clean, spacious, and loaded with all the extras: good cookware, some beach gear, cozy.Highly recommend
We absolutely loved our stay, the greenery, peace and quiet, open layout with the light pouring in through the windows. We loved enjoying breakfast on the patio and the neighbors were very friendly as well! We would definitely stay here again!
Communication with Kristi prior to and the days before our trip was clear and precise. Kristi even checked in on us during a Tsunami advisory, making sure we were aware and knew where to go which I thought was nice. For the house, it was beautiful, pictures online don’t do it justice. The decor and art work were beautiful. The place had everything we needed. The outdoor space was nice and appreciated the outdoor shower area and sink, made rinsing off from those beach days easier. I included just some of the flowers on the property and some of the visitors we had.
Beautiful cottage in a quiet neighborhood with all of the comforts of home. They had a great supply of beach gear to enjoy as well. Thanks for the memories.
The cottage is wonderfully private with amazing views and lush landscaping. Beautifully appointed with comfortable furnishings, lovely decor and every amenity, the cottage feels like a piece of Hawaiian paradise. Our family of four enjoyed our stay and hope to stay there again in the future!

About the host
Hosted by Kristi Ferraro
We are a family of 4, who live in Avon, Colorado. We feel so blessed to be able to enjoy the contrasting beauty of the Colorado mountains and the tropics of Kauai. Our two sons feel pretty lucky that they get to ski at home and play in the ocean in Kauai.
Why they chose this property
We always found ourselves being drawn back to the North Shore of Kauai, so we decided to take the plunge and buy a place. We couldn't believe that we found such a cute, vintage cottage. It truly feels like the Kauai I remembered from my first visit as a young kid in 1971.
What makes this property unique
We love eating the fruit from our yard and getting to know our local neighbors. We spend almost every day at the beach. We can hardly believe that some of the most dazzling places in the world are just a few miles from our cottage: Hanalei Bay, Tunnels Beach, the Napali coast, Ke'e Beach, the Kalalau Trail and Lumahai Beach.
