Delightful country cottage. Stunning views. A few minutes walk to Seatown beach
Ash Cottage is a cosy, well equipped 2 bedroom country cottage, with stunning views, but just 15 minutes walk to the Jurassic coast, the beach at Seatown and the South West Coastal path. There are excellent views of the countryside and coastal path from the living room and from the south facing private patio and the communal rear garden.
Ash Cottage is situated in the midst of very quiet and peaceful National Trust farmland. Ash Cottage has French windows in the lounge opening onto a private sunny south-facing patio that borders the large communal lawn that is shared with the other five properties which make up this stone barn conversion. Table, chairs, parasol and a barbeque are all provided for use on the patio. The lawn is edged by a shallow stream, and has breathtaking views over rolling Dorset hills. It is an easy walk through the fields and paths to the beach and the renowned Anchor Pub at Seatown. With the Coastal Path on it's doorstep and plenty of walks inland as well, it is a paradise for walkers! Also don’t forget that as well as the Anchor Pub at Seatown, in Chideock there is also The George Inn for a drink or a meal out.
Ash Cottage is a split level, deceptively spacious barn conversion and has a homely feel. From the front door there is a hall area with a bedroom leading off to the right. There is a half flight of stairs down to the roomy lounge / dining area with a well equipped, open plan kitchen. From the hall, there is also a half flight of stairs which leads up to the master bedroom and the bathroom. The bathroom has a full sized bath and over bath power shower.
Wifi broadband is throughout the cottage.
The large master bedroom at the rear has wonderful views and offers a king sized bed. Bedroom one at the front of the cottage also has a king sized bed plus a single bed in addition. The beds are made up with fresh linen and towels for your stay. Both bedrooms have plenty of storage space. Hairdryers are provided.
The kitchen is equipped with an induction hob, fan oven, microwave, toaster, full size fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine (tabs are provided) and plenty of cooking utensils so if wanted, you can produce a gourmet meal! An iron and ironing board are available.
The lounge / dining area has a smart TV, DVD player, CD player/radio, comfy chairs, sofa, dining table and chairs. There is a selection of family games and books. The French windows open out to the sunny patio which is the perfect position to soak up the scenery and tranquillity of the cottage's position. At night the silence is typically only broken by the trickle of the shallow brook running alongside the rear garden and the faint noise of the sea. On cloudless nights, simply stunning night views of the stars are normal at Ash Cottage, due to the lack of light pollution. Perfect for star gazers!
Ash Cottage has one designated free parking space for one vehicle.
One well behaved dog welcome (a small additional fee applies). Please note that dogs are not allowed on the furniture or beds and must not be left alone in the cottage. If you visit any of the local pubs, they are all dog friendly.
Please note that Ash Cottage is a non smoking / non vaping cottage. Ash Cottage lies on the outskirts of the small, picturesque and historic village of Chideock. Known for it’s attractive golden stone and whitewash cottages, many of which are thatched. As mentioned above, nearby to Ash Cottage in the village there is The George Pub which has excellent food, frequent live music evenings, regular quiz evenings, plus, serves wood fired pizzas every Thursday evening from spring through to October. There is also a well stocked village stores that incorporates a Post Office. In the village, St Giles Church dates back to the 13th century and has a rich history.
At neighbouring Seatown, many fossils can be found on the shingle beach. The Anchor Inn, who’s beer garden has superb views overlooking the beach, offers a seasonal menu supporting local suppliers, to suit all tastes.
From our cottage, you can walk along the South West Coast Path and climb up Golden Cap, which at 627 feet / 191 metres height, is the highest point on the south coast and has breathtaking views. It is an easy walk to the beach at Seatown. For the more adventurous, take the Coastal path to West Bay (of Broadchurch TV series fame) to the east, or to Lyme Regis to the west. There is an excellent bus service along the coast for those that prefer the easier option one (or even both!) ways.
The market town of Bridport is 2 miles away and has markets on both Wednesdays and Saturdays selling a variety of local produce, antiques, bric a brac and clothes.
Bridport is a vibrant artistic town with lots of individual shops including art galleries, coffee shops, restaurants, excellent baker's shops, as well as the convenience of a Waitrose, a Morrisons. Co-op and Lidl. The Bridport Arts Centre and The Electric Palace Cinema offer films, theatre, music and comedy. Bridport Carnival is in August, whilst the Hat Festival is in September and the Literary Festival is in November.
West Bay is Bridport’s harbour and marks the start of Chesil Beach. Unpretentious fish and chip kiosks are the lunch venue of choice in West Bay. Above the pebble beach, towers the famous golden sandstone cliffs.
To the west of Chideock lies the small town of Charmouth, which features a pebble beach, fossil rich cliffs and the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre that provides interactive displays and everything there is to know about fossils!
The popular seaside town of Lyme Regis is a short drive away and boasts it’s famous fishing harbour and Cobb, where you can walk up Granny’s teeth, if you dare! These are stone steps jutting out for the side of the Cobb’s inner wall. The town and seafront are known for their quaint buildings, sheltered sandy beach and of course, fossil hunting! As well as plenty of independent shops, Lyme Regis also has a theatre, a water mill, gardens, museum and hosts a multitude of events.
The area has an array of wonderful restaurants, of which the best known are probably Mark Hix’s Oyster and Fish House (Lyme Regis) and The Station Kitchen in West Bay, with both just 15 minutes drive from Ash Cottage.

Idyllic cottage in beautiful Dorset
This property was rented for 3 adults and two children which was ideal for us. Everything we needed was provided and it was a very pleasant walk down to the nearby beach at Seatown. Would recommend.
How wonderful to be able to enjoy such a lovely spot in such a cozy cottage! We enjoyed every minute of our unfortunately too short stay!

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
Absolutely magical place. We all loved it. The kids had a great time picking blackberries. The walk to the beautiful beach was short and easy to do. We were glad to have brought our water shoes for the beach.
If you love hiking, there is so much to do all around. Beautiful views from Golden Cap.
We had a lovely stay at this property. It was very clean and had everything we needed. Would have been great to have had a sectioned off part of the garden for the dogs but this was a very minor thing.
The property is extremely comfortable and had everything we needed with stunning views across hills and countryside. Great communication from the owners. Fantastic location for walks and the coast. Dog friendly too.
This cottage is very well presented and feels incredibly clean and well looked after. It had all the amenities you might need plus thoughtful extras like maps and games. The location is perfect and we had two great walks along the cliffs - one to Lyme Regis and the other to Bridport. We enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend this cottage.
Lovely unit in a barn conversion done to a high standard. Excellent hosts who provide for your every need for a perfect visit. Very peaceful setting with hiking opportunities on the doorstep and further delights in the nearby market town of Bridport.
Lovely cottage, very comfortable and everything we needed. Great location, close to Seatown which is well worth a visit. We visited many places along the Dorset coastline over our stay. Very warm weather so the garden was a blessing. Highly recommend this property.
The on-line description and directions were accurate. The information pack that included the walk to the nearby beach was extremely helpful. The cottage itself was immaculate, very comfortable and obviously much loved. It's rural setting was a perfect spot to visit the famous nearby coastal attractions.

Beautiful Cottage In An Idyllic Location
Ash Cottage is absolutely lovely and the layout was perfect for us with a small child and a dog. There was plenty of space and it was so well equipped, everything that we could possibly have wanted was there.
The location is perfect with three beaches being incredibly close by and two super pubs nearby. One we walked to and The Anchor we drove to as we had a toddler with us and didn't fancy carrying him across the fields! Both were very welcoming and we had lovely meals at both.
Don't be deceived as Ash Cottage looks quite little from the front but it is very spacious and we were in no way cramped, quite the opposite. The views of rolling fields and the quiet surroundings were perfect. The lovely bottle of wine in the fridge was a super touch, thank you, we will be back!
A lovely place to explore the surrounding coast!

Thank you very much for your lovely review Harriet - hope we can welcome you to Ash Cottage again in the near future! Isabel
Ash Cottage is lovely - extremely comfortable, well-presented and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. It was just perfect for us! We took full advantage of the amazing weather to enjoy the private terrace with wonderful views of the hills for breakfast, evening drinks and to stargaze! The cottage is ideally placed for bird watching, fossil hunting and walking - short walk to beach with local pub and equally short walk in opposite direction to the village with other pubs and local shop. We managed to walk some of the coastal path in both directions from the cottage but also went in the car to Lyme Regis, Beer and many other beautiful spots. Communication with David and Julie was first-class and they have put so much thought into the comfort and well-being of their renters - thanks to both of you. Our only regret was not renting the cottage for longer - we will definitely return!

Thank you for your great review. Yes, the private patio offers superb views during the day and early evening and at night time the stars are amazing. Please come back back for a return visit soon!

About the host
Hosted by David and Julie
David and Julie, the owners of Ash Cottage, welcome you to enjoy the cottage and the fantastic scenery. Ash Cottage makes a superb base for adults, children and of course the family dog, for walking and exploring the Jurassic coastal area.
Many times over the years we had rented Ash Cottage for holidays. One day, an opportunity arose for us to purchase Ash Cottage, and in 2020, as it means so much to us, we became the proud owners of Ash Cottage. We hope that you will love the cottage and the surrounding area as much as both us and the many of our guests who make repeat bookings for Ash Cottage, year after year!
Why they chose this property
The Jurassic Coast is a stunning area to visit, with fantastic views, incredible history dating to prehistoric times.
Ash Cottage looks out at the South West Coast Path, which runs 630 miles (1,014 km) from Poole, past Chideock, down to Lands End then up the north coast of the South West Peninsula, as far as Minehead in Somerset.
If you like the sea, rolling countryside or of course, hunting for fossils, then Ash Cottage is the place for you!
