About this property
Luxurious wellness houseboat - Sailors Suite
The Sailor's Suite — aboard the historic vessel Reussi
At the bow of the Reussi, where the ship meets the water first, lies the Sailor's Suite. Serene, refined and designed with an unmistakable feminine elegance, this is a place to slow down, breathe out and let Amsterdam come to you — one gently passing boat at a time.
The Space The Sailor's Suite is a design retreat in the truest sense. A cosy private living room, a peaceful bedroom, a modern bathroom, and your own private waterside terrace — all thoughtfully finished to create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and quietly luxurious. Step outside onto the deck and watch the canal life drift by; step back inside and the world retreats entirely. Every detail here has been considered by hand. Gerben — a maritime school graduate with a deep love for Amsterdam's waterways and the storied history of the Reussi — led the ship's full renovation himself. His fiancée Rodinde brought her signature touch to the interior: a refined sense of elegance, carefully chosen materials and the kind of warmth that you feel the moment you walk through the door. The result is a space that is stylish without being cold, luxurious without being excessive. Air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi and a Smart TV keep you comfortable when you want them. Coffee, tea, fresh bed linen and towels are all included. Everything else — the light on the water, the stillness of the morning, the slow rhythm of city life seen from the canal — comes naturally.
The Location The Reussi is moored on the Kalkmarkt, one of Amsterdam's widest and most picturesque historic canals, in the very heart of the old city. Dam Square, Rembrandtplein and the Passenger Terminal are all within easy reach, and Amsterdam Centraal Station is just a 10–15 minute walk away. Close to everything, yet — from your private terrace — gloriously removed from it all.
Getting Here The ship is located at Kalkmarkt 16 in the historic centre. A private gate and broad quayside stairway lead directly onto the deck and to your suite entrance — a quiet arrival that sets the tone for your stay.
Good to Know The Reussi has multiple private suites. The Sailor's Suite — exactly as shown in the photos — is entirely yours during your stay. Other areas of the vessel are not included.

This stay was beyond our expectations. Our host greeted us at the start to ensure we knew everything about the amenities, and where everything is on the boat and in the neighborhood. He was a sweet soul and instant friendly face we could WhatsApp for any need or question (like where to rent bikes!) The boat had everything we needed and the level of detail and thought to ours stay was obvious; from the mini bar setup, to a luxurious bedding and sauna, it was a Dutch dream come true! After wondering the very lively streets of Amsterdam all day and dodging people, bikes, and cars, the neighborhood is a tranquil zone near the sea. The location is truly fabulous.
Amsterdam has so much to offer, one doesn’t usually think of the rental accommodations as competing for attention. Enter the Réussi. It is newly renovated with fantastic, modern detail and plenty of thought put into the design. Spacious and very well appointed, it comes with luxurious amenities that would be a bonus for any rental, let alone a canal boat. We stayed in the Sailor Suite with its large, comfortable bed, bright portholes and windows. It contains a well-appointed galley with Nespresso machine, microwave, and refrigerator, dishwasher, and stovetop all ingeniously fitted in the compact footprint of a ship’s galley. Let’s not forget the mini washer/dryer to do laundry. There is a petite, but ample, closet to hang coats, blouses, and store items on shelves. Then there is the bathroom. The shower is fantastic, and next to the shower is a sauna that my wife and I used daily. One of the highlights is simply enjoying the chairs on the deck! Whether sipping coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine in the evening, we got to enjoy the view, gaze at the passing boats, and soak up the ambiance of Réussi’s neighborhood.Albert and Gerben were the best hosts we’ve ever had. Warm, considerate and with excellent communication. When an error occurred in my planning, Albert worked to help accommodate my new dates. We cannot say enough good things about them and the Réussi.

About the host
Your host
We're Gerben and Rodinde — a couple who fell in love with Amsterdam, with historic vessels, and with the idea that a truly special stay should feel like nothing else you've ever experienced. Gerben grew up with a deep fascination for ships and the sea. After training at maritime school in his younger years, that love never left him. When the Reussi came into his life — a weathered, characterful historic vessel with extraordinary bones — he knew exactly what he wanted to do with her. He led the full renovation himself, restoring her structure, her soul and her seafaring dignity, deck by deck and beam by beam. Rodinde brought something equally essential: an eye for beauty, a love of elegant detail and an endless dedication to making every corner of the Reussi feel as warm as it looks. From the texture of the linens to the light in the living room, her touch is everywhere. Together, we've created something we're genuinely proud of — and we love sharing it. Hosting, for us, isn't a business transaction. It's an invitation. We want you to feel at home on the water, in one of the world's most beautiful cities, aboard a ship with a story worth telling.
Why they chose this property
The Kalkmarkt is one of Amsterdam's widest and most quietly magnificent canals — and in our view, one of the most underrated addresses in the entire city. It sits right at the edge of the historic centre, where the old trading heart of Amsterdam once pulsed with ships arriving from every corner of the world. Mooring the Reussi here felt right from the very first day!
What we love most is the balance this location offers. You're genuinely central — Dam Square, the waterfront, Centraal Station and some of the city's finest restaurants and museums are all within easy walking distance. And yet, standing on the deck of the Reussi, the canal feels calm, wide and unhurried. The classic canal houses line the quay, boats drift past at their own pace, and the city reveals itself gently rather than all at once.
For us, this is Amsterdam at its most authentic: lived-in, layered with history, and still quietly stunning after all these years. We wouldn't moor her anywhere else!
What makes this property unique
The Reussi is not a converted barge or a floating apartment. She is a genuine historic vessel with real maritime heritage — and she has been restored, from the inside out, by someone who understands what that means.
Both suites — the Captain's Cabin at the aft and the Sailor's Suite at the bow — have been designed as complete, self-contained retreats. Private terraces on the water, a sauna, thoughtfully curated interiors, premium linens, and the kind of stillness you simply cannot find in a hotel room. Every material, every finish, every detail was chosen with intention. But beyond the amenities, what makes the Reussi truly singular is the feeling she gives you. The slow movement of the water beneath you. The view of 17th-century canal houses from your private deck. The sense that you are not just staying in Amsterdam — you are part of its living, breathing waterway history.
There is nothing quite like waking up on the Reussi. We built her for guests who know the difference.
