About this property

Charming ranch house surrounded by Acadia National Park

This house is built on property originally owned by John Rockefeller Jr, the benefactor of much of Acadia National Park! It is conveniently located less than 10 minutes from Bar Harbor, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle so that you can see the milky way streaming overhead on a clear night. You can leave the front door, and in less than half a mile be walking on a trail in Acadia National Park, or, if you are up for exploration, walk straight into the backyard and you'll be in the national park!

After you spend a day hiking, biking, or exploring, you'll feel at home in our ranch style house. The kitchen has updated appliances and ample cabinet and refrigerator space. All of the utensils and kitchen tools that you will need to cook up a fresh Maine lobster or a nice Maine blueberrry pie are provided, as well. The house has a large shared dining/living room, with a beautiful granite fireplace along one wall. Lots of natural light enters the room from large bay windows in both the front and the back of the house. Both bedrooms are large, and have plenty of closet space. The beds are comfy, and lots of books and other reading materials will help you gain a greater appreciation for the beautiful area that we live in. A final room, which we typically call our "yoga room," can easily accommodate the futon that can sleep an additional two guests.

Don't judge this book by its cover. Inside is very well laid out. Kitchen is a small but well equipped. 3 good-sized bedrooms and dining/living room was plenty large for stretching out and planning hikes in the park. Perfect location met our needs as we had a group of us camping in nearby Blackwoods. Highly recommend this place for those who need escape from hubhub of Bar Harbor.

Great location on Mount Desert Island
Our family of four enjoyed our stay at this sweet home. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals in and Joe and Hannah gave us great recommendations for places to eat out, as well. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and a large family space to spend time together. The welcome basket and supplies for smores were an extra special treat.

Absolutely Perfect for an Acadia getaway!
Like the title states, this place is absolutely perfect for an Acadia getaway. The house is right-sized and has everything you need. It has a great feel, sorta like a cabin in the woods - but with a nice kitchen, bathroom, and 3 bedrooms. It's in an AMAZING location; it's on private land that's adjacent to the park - so you can be at really great hikes in Acadia National Park in minutes. It's also less than 10 minute drive to Bar Harbor, with all the restaurants and shops. Great for refueling after a long day hiking/biking. An added bonus - the hosts are awesome. They provided great advice on hikes and dining, were available before and during our stay if we needed anything (which we didn't - since the house was stocked), and were really nice people. We ran into travel woes on our way up to Maine and thus arrived a day late. Joe was so nice; he refunded us for the night we weren't there - despite losing that rental income. It was incredibly thoughtful. I have nothing but great things to say; I'd stay here again 100% if back in the area!

My wife and I live near one of the most beautiful areas of the USA (in our opinion): Acadia National Park. We enjoy hiking and biking, and like to be outside whenever possible. My wife teaches chemistry and outdoor science at the high school, and I run a math and science tutoring business on the island.

We both love to travel, and in the past few years have taken some awesome trips. In February of 2016, we spent 9 days in Iceland, staying in many AirBnBs along our route. It was an amazing time to see the country! In addition, in 2015 I quit my full time job and we traveled throughout New Zealand for two months! We camped all around the country, and stayed with three great families for part of the time, as well.

We would like to think that we are pretty down to earth people. We don't much care for pomp and circumstance, and love cooking, biking where we need to go, and exploring this amazing place.

Why they chose this property

Acadia National Park is a special place, and we feel very blessed to have the opportunity to live here. When we were looking for a place to live on Mount Desert Island, there were very few affordable properties this close to the national park. In fact, the village of Otter Creek is actually surrounded by the national park!!! Our house, however, was available, and we jumped at the opportunity to own a piece of land in such an incredible area. The location of this house is superb, and affords us a lot of opportunities for hiking and biking right from our front door. As Hannah likes to say, "It's so cool that we can take a walk in a national park after work on any given afternoon!"
