Chapel Knap, Porlock Weir
Chapel Knap is a large period property in a tranquil setting with breathtaking views. The entrance hall at Chapel Knap is the last remaining part of the original chapel, which was built in the 12th century.
Main Description
Chapel Knap can accommodate up to 8 guests plus cot (available on request). There are four bedrooms on the first floor; one double (with king-sized bed), one twin room, one small single bedroom, and a family room comprising king-sized double bed plus a single. There are two upstairs bathrooms; one with bath only and the other has a bath and shower. Downstairs there is a living room, and the kitchen/dining room in situated in the garden room with some comfortable chairs so that you can relax and enjoy the stunning views of Porlock Bay.

A small part of the downstairs of the house has been made into a one-bedroom apartment which is used by the owner, her phone number is in the welcome pack and she will be there to answer any questions you may have during your stay.
Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement (maximum of 3). A supplementary fee of £10 will be added to your invoice per dog. Please do not allow your dogs on the furniture or beds and do not leave them alone in the property at any time.
Please note the garden is adjacent to a field which sometimes contains sheep, there is a waist high fence.
Chapel Knap is strictly non-smoking.
The property will be ready from 4.30 pm on the day of your arrival. Please depart by 10 am on the last day of your stay. Please leave the property clean and tidy so that we can guarantee it will be ready on time for our next guests.
Chapel Knap is available for week breaks during peak periods. Short breaks of three or four nights may be available.
Indoor Description
The kitchen is fitted with a free-standing fridge (larder-style), an under-counter freezer, electric oven with hob, microwave and a slimline dishwasher. Other equipment includes toaster, kettle, a variety of kitchen utensils, cookware, cutlery, crockery and glasses.
A television with Sky TV is situated in the living room and wireless broadband is available at no extra cost.
A cot and/or high chair is available; please request these items when booking so we can make sure they are present for your arrival.
Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. Chapel Knap is fitted with oil-fired central heating.
Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips. Bed linen is not supplied for the cot.
A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as you arrive. There may also be other non-perishable items like a salt, pepper and a few herbs or spices available. Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid, dishwasher powder and surface cleaner will be present in the property. One or two toilet rolls will be provided.
Outdoor Description
The house sits within a large sub-tropical garden which is private and gated onto the road. There is a lawned terrace with doors leading onto it from the spacious garden room as well as the living room, from the terrace you can enjoy spectacular views of Porlock Bay towards Hurlstone Point whilst listening to the sea.
Parking
Secure off-road parking for two cars is available within the property's grounds; this is a short walk from the front door, approximately 30 metres along a gravelled path. You can squeeze 3 cars in the drive if you park tight. The parking area is inside the double wooden gates off the road.

Porlock Weir is a picturesque harbour village on the Exmoor National Park coastline in Somerset, with a history stretching back to the 15th century. The small tidal harbour, with its ancient lock gates and pebble beach, sits at the heart of a thriving community.
You'll find a welcoming pub, restaurants ranging from relaxed dining to Michelin-listed Italian cuisine, cosy cafes, and a popular street food takeaway -- all within walking distance of the harbour. Independent shops and galleries line the lanes, including Exmoor Glass, the Harbour Gallery, and Porlock Bay Oysters, which opened expanded premises in 2024.
The larger village of Porlock is approximately one mile away and has a broader range of amenities including grocery shops, a traditional butcher, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre, and a selection of independent restaurants and tea rooms. Most shops in Porlock and Porlock Weir keep hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending during the summer season.
Porlock Weir was recently used as a filming location for The Salt Path, the adaptation of Raynor Winn's bestselling memoir about walking the South West Coast Path.
