Very nice place and located close to Talkeetna within walking distance. Clean, lots of towels, all pots, pans and dishwasher. Great place to stay, very quiet except for a train whistle every once in a while.
This property is amazing. It’s in the perfect location to walk into town, it’s a great central location to the areas we visited, and was very clean. The owner was in contact with us the entire stay to ensure we had a great experience. I loved and appreciated the complimentary coffee. The beds were really comfortable and we had plenty of towels. I highly recommend this property!
3 bedroom house close to downtown Talkeetna. Well stocked kitchen and nice comfy mattresses. Great place to get away. Host was responsive. Exterior could use some maintenance
3 of us stayed for work in the area, and the property worked perfect for us. Very clean, quiet and the process was perfect. Plenty of room for us to do office work, plus relax. Will stay again next time we are back!
This was an amazing cabin located perfectly in Talkeetna. The beds were very comfortable, the laundry and kitchen had everything we needed, and the unique kitchen table was perfect for family talks and dinners. We recommend this place to everyone and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.
We enjoyed our stay at this cute log cabin/house in Talkeetna. Kitchen was pretty well equipped and the place was pretty clean. There was some deferred maintenance with this property but it didn’t take away from our stay. Mostly everything was great! We would stay here again.
The property was great, a close walk to downtown - there is a trail nearby to avoid road. Beds more comfortable than my home, according to my friends. Lol. Great deck! Fully stocked (including bug spray!) and nice washer/dryer, big fridge with freezer and ice. Alaskan decor, including beautiful wood tables. Had a great stay and will stay again.
The house was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed for cooking and relaxing. The bottle of wine, snacks and free coffee were nice extra touches. The location was close enough to walk to Talkeetna, which is a cool, artsy town.
Great property to stay. Nice cozy cabin that can accommodate up to 6 adults. Talkneetna is nice town and we actually were able to see Denali from the river there. We had a slight issue operating the key pad to get in however that was due to operator error.
We stayed at Lazy Bear Retreat last year. When we decided to return again we were hoping to get it again. It’s great for family and friends. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and washer/dryer which we had to use since we were on a 10 day vacation. We had a couple of questions for Tent the landlord before we went and his responses were always very timely. We liked to log cabin feel.
Check in was easy. The tricky light switch funny. Wi-fi had 2 issues: one was the provider which was handled. The second is the ridiculous password which is only on the VRBO notes from the owner. Not in the paperwork in the unit. The upstairs bedroom with bath has only one small window with a screen that looks directly into the unit behind it (think apartment style) and Talkeetna is hot in the summer. An overhead fan would be nice and a screen on the second window. And then there’s the shower - an oval style tub attached to the ceiling going straight across the room. There is no way water does not splash out and soak the floor then wick onto the carpet in the bedroom. The kitchen is well stocked. The screens all need cleaning and missing ones replaced.
As we entered the adorable log cabin, the woodwork inside was gorgeous, warm and inviting. The dining table, where we had breakfast every morning, was a slab cut from a gigantic tree which was complemented by the coffee table in the living area. We truly appreciated their beauty.
The house was more than well equipped - they have everything - dishwasher, dishwashing and clothes soap,Clorex wipes, every pot, pan and dish needed along with K-Cups and a filtered water pitcher in the fridge. It made our adventure so easy.
The entire experience was exceptional!
Although we didn't meet the host in person, he was very accommodating before we arrived and was available if we needed anything.
If you find yourself in Talkeetna, we highly recommend the Lazy Bear!
The house was great, close to town and walkable if you choose. It was a great start to our Alaskan adventure. We got to rub the mayors belly. Aurora (she's a cat), and perhaps the next mayor too - Wendall (a dog) is in the running... The town is charming and super close to all kinds of activities. We are part of the 30% club and could see Denali (Mt McKinley) for a few of the days we were there. I highly suggest a flight seeing tour with K2 - they were awesome. The house was set up well with 6 of us. The pull out couch was reported to be comfy (my 27 year old nephew slept on it). The other beds were comfy too. The coffee/tea provided was a nice touch. When we were there it was really warm outside and the upstairs did get hot even with a fan running - it was hard to draw air in, but that's more of a personal preference than a negative. There is only one closet in the house, so if you need to hang up anything its in one of the upstairs rooms. We did have contact with the host who was responsive during our stay. Overall, I would stay here again. We stayed in mid August and then headed on to a cruise out of Whittier. The weather was amazing while we were there - coolish in the AM and then warming up nicely as the day progressed. The people were super friendly that we met and it was interesting to hear stories of how people ended up there over the years. I wish I would have had time to hop the train and explore a bit more.

Reservation cancelled without notice
Property was very clean and had high end features; however, we had booked the property next door, which is 3BR and 2BA. When I communicated with property manager just prior to arriving to our cabin (in Alaska), I was told the reservation was "lost" and that we no longer could stay there (even through VRBO clearly showed the reservation was current and had not been cancelled). We were told we could stay at their next door property, which was 1 BR plus bed in loft with 1 bathroom (instead of 3BR/2BA), but only for 2 nights, instead of 3 nights, which is what I had reserved the original property for. After settling in, the folks who were staying in our originally booked cabin said they were family members who just got some time off spur of the moment and asked if they could stay at the cabin we had booked.

Great Potential
This property has great potential, but the pictures listed are way out-dated and it has not been kept up. The floor level of the property were good, the kitchen, living area and 1 bedroom and bathroom were good. The upstairs bedrooms did not have curtains that would block out the midnight sun in Alaska in the summer. When we arrived all the windows were open and fans going upstairs, we had to move bedrooms to try to find a dark place, so we hung up our clothes over the only curtain rod to try and make it dark. At 2:00 am the neighbors dog started screaming for an hour. We shut all the windows to try to sleep. The next day when we got home, the upstairs smelled horribly of urine, we opened all the windows again and were guessing that was why they were all open when we got there. The upstairs balcony was off limits because 4 or 5 pieces of wood were knocked out and had been that way for a long time. If the pictures were accurate of this place, I would have never picked it to begin with. So, like I said, it has great potential, it just needs some work and upkeep.
This is NOT a single occupant home. There is an apartment down stairs that has a hatch leading to the cabin we rented. This is an access door they have disguised by matching flooring and seams with surrounding but has a flush handle and is hidden with a table over it. The ‘hatch’
only locks from downstairs and is unsecured from renter side. From said ‘hatch’ comes cigarette smoke, yelling, screaming etc. Cleanliness and sanitation is horrible. Open bottles of shampoo, condiments, food left behind. Carpet upstairs is horribly nasty stained. No AC but they do have a fan that has NEVER been cleaned. Junk cars outside, junk bikes left at the steps, the lawn has never seen a weed trimmer. Slow communications with owner-blamed on app not working properly. Upstairs shower has no shower curtain and is therefore not usable. Outside banister is very loose, not sturdy. I could go on but I think you get my point.
We had a nice stay - convenient location, lots of amenities, great for families. As mentioned, there are residents below which you do hear. We also wish that some of the snow was cleared off the deck but absolutely understand that Talkeetna got a ton of snow this winter!
