Come and experience the peaceful mountain retreat tucked away in the woods of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Whether you are visiting for a family reunion, a quiet romantic escape, or a short getaway with friends, Fern Cottage has everything you need for a memorable stay.

Welcome to Fern Cottage, your idyllic retreat atop beautiful Belair Springs in Meadows of Dan. Step inside and you will be instantly transported to a cozy and comfortable living space on the left and a sweet, homey kitchen on your right, each detail of the cottage decorated with care and style. Unwind in one of the two inviting bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and full bath, or take some time to relax and appreciate the views of the picturesque landscape surrounding you from the comfort of the spacious front deck. Whether it’s a family getaway or just some time to relax on your own, the Fern Cottage will make any experience extraordinary.
Just a few reminders:
1 - NO Pets allowed, we have other properties you can bring FIDO
2 - Absolutely NO Smoking of any kind
3 - Please do not move furniture
4 - Keep it clean. When you leave it should look the same as you entered, with the exception of bed linens and towels
5 - Remember it`s our home, so treat it with respect
6 - The grill is a small Weber charcoal table top.
7 - PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FIREPIT IS NOT PART OF FERN COTTAGE. PLEASE DO NOT USE.
8 - There is limited cell coverage at the Cottage. Verizon picks up okay, but AT&T does not. We suggest using WiFi Calling if you need it.

The Fern Cottage was very nice and cozy. It was perfect for a romantic getaway. The community was small and very quiet. The owner met my wife and I as we pulled up and offered his driveway to park since the driveway to the cottage is tight for a pickup truck. Everything was clean and well maintained. I would recommend the Fern Cottage to my friends and family.

Beautiful and Cozy

The only negative thing I can say is that we didn’t get to stay longer. This cabin is so adorable and clean! The decor was perfect and the cabin is nestled snug on a hill surrounded by beautiful trees! If you walk a short distance from the driveway you will see breathtaking views. The host’s communication and suggestions for places to eat/do was amazing! I would definitely stay here again!

Very nice, all positive, with one critique…getting down the steps to the porch was treacherous for 2 older ladies coming in after dark and hauling coolers and suitcases. Don’t know if there are rules out there about lighting, but a little more illumination would be helpful. Steps are a bit awkward, not a natural feel, know what I mean? Thanks so much. I would for sure rent again.

Quiet, rustic cottage with all the comforts of home

The cottage was much larger inside than we expected and it was so convenient that each couple had their own full bath attached to their bedroom. The cottage was spotless and provided everything we needed for a restful weekend away. We were conveniently located to many attractions of the area and even got to experience Mount Airy's Autumn Leaves festival and the Doe Run Farm Sunflower Maze. We recommend Fern Cottage and would love to stay on our next visit to the area.

What a cute cottage! But beware of Karen

We loved staying here. Everything was clean, decorated so well and was so cozy and warm. The location was perfect! We were a little concerned when we texted the contact about the locks not working and never heard back. Also, we were also mildly annoyed because one of the neighbors stopped by to semi-rudely question why we were walking around, and said there had been break-in recently. She even asked us which house we were staying in and stared at us accusingly. When we asked if she was the owner, she admitted that no, she wasn’t - and that she lived down the hill (we were uphill, so she must have been watching us). It was a little creepy and strange and took the wind a bit out of our sails, when we were in a great mood and enjoying the view. So be rest assured! While the locks may not work, the “resident Karen” does! She is a neighborhood watch of one, ready to defend things and houses that aren’t even hers… But overall, the lock issue was nothing and the place was immaculate. They had whole milk and cereal and coffee. And the neighbor lady

We never received a text or message about the locks. The only message we received was about the neighbor. Not sure where you other text was sent. These are Anderson doors and they lock differently. Perhaps that was the issue. Signs in the property explaining them. My apologies for the neighbor. After some investigation, we have determined that she was concerned for your safety. Nothing personal and certainly nothing accusatory.

Fine Stay in Beautiful Belair Springs

Enjoyed a two- night stay at cozy and well-appointed Fern Cottage. Only a very short walk to see spectacular views of the Blue Ridge as well as Pilot Mountain and the Sauratown range. Very friendly and helpful residents in neighborhood. Especially enjoyed meeting Carter, next-door neighbor who was very friendly and interesting, and as part of his looking after the property, gracious enough to check on my hot water setting following a recent power outage in area.
