About the host

My father was born and raised in Suttons bay. I grew up in Cadillac and attended Eastern Michigan University on an athletic scholarship. My grandmothers' place on Suttons Bay was always a treasured vacation. I won the Traverse City Cherry Festival 15k road race 4 times and love the area. I remember coming home to "Da Bay" after a summer of racing throughout Europe and telling my family and friends that this area is as beautiful as anything I had seen over seas. I built this place myself with an attempt to keep it simple. The road side has very little glazing for privacy. The seasonal bay view in the back has given us incredible opportunities to watch the wildlife. Deer, rabbits turkeys, ducks, pheasants and hawks like to frequent the yard. I did catch site of a cougar in the yard once. Power Island near TC is my favorite local boating location. My son and I have taken the boat to Mackinaw Island a few times but the money saved on a hotel doesn't make up for the gas it takes my 28' cabin cruiser. When I coached at Suttons Bay high school, We always started the season with camping and running all over Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park.
