About Melanie Prater
We have always been mountain and outdoor lovers with family activities including hiking, camping and boating. We were drawn to Hot Springs for the peaceful surroundings and wonderful town.
Melanie Prater purchased this Cabin in 1991
Why Melanie Prater chose Hot Springs
Our family purchased this property as a second home, magical getaway in beautiful Hot Springs, NC. We loved the area so much we now call Hot Springs home. We offer this beautifully restored 1922 Arts & Crafts Chestnut Log cabin as a vacation rental for your special home away from home.
What makes this Cabin unique
We fell in love with The Chestnut Log Cabin as it was an original 1922 Arts & Crafts home with a special feeling. Bonuses for us is the cabin is directly on the Appalachian Trail and walking distance to town with a wonderful rocking chair front porch. This authentic log cabin offers all modern conveniences including secured internet, Direct TV, renovated bath and kitchen and, our most requested amenity, the private outdoor hot tub!

Hot Springs Fall Break
Melanie was easy to rent from and communication was fantastic. There were a few things out of her control that made the ratings lower than they could be.
I wish there had been more parking for friends to come and visit. As it was we had to meet them somewhere else.
The perfect place to stay to enjoy all the area has to offer!
From the moment I opened the door I felt the peace and quiet of this cabin I must mention I could see and feel all the care that went into everything from the small details to the lovely decorating I hope I can return again and again
Beautiful cabin, beautifully maintained in a great location to the AT. Highly recommend!
close to town
Older cabin but very comfortable. Close to town with great restaurants. Fire pit and hot tub a plus.
Step outside your cozy cabin and you are hiking the Appalachain Trail where the French Broad River meets the trail. Hot Springs was listed as 'Best small mountain town in the South' by Blue Ridge magazine. Many hiking trails, natural mineral baths, downhome restaurants, local music and arts, seasonal festivals and friendly folks.
