About this property
Downtown Bar Harbor - 3 BD/2 BA - Big Porch and Yard, Steps from Village Green
Located in downtown Bar Harbor, just two short blocks from the Village Green, our house is the perfect getaway for a couple, a family, or a group of friends! The in-town location means nothing is more than a 10-minute walk from the front door, including restaurants, shopping, the waterfront, and the Island Explorer (free) shuttle buses - with numerous stops within Acadia! This historic "cottage" (ca. 1900) was designed by noted regional architect Fred L. Savage. There's even an historic marker at the end of the driveway!
We have AIR CONDITIONING!!! Each of the three bedrooms upstairs now have wall-mounted units that provide cooling (and heating) controlled via remote. The living room has its own unit, too!
The house itself is two stories, with the bedrooms upstairs and living areas and kitchen on the ground floor. We have a large front porch with a picnic table, and several Adirondack chairs. The kitchen is equipped with a full-size refrigerator, a four-burner gas stove, two-basin sink, and a dishwasher. Small appliances include a microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.
We have plates, utensils, cups and glasses, pots and pans, and anything else needed to make and eat a meal. The dining room showcases the original wood floors and paneling, and a bay window with a bench seat. The dining room table can accommodate four people with ease, and the picnic table is a comfortable six. Leaves to expand the dining room table are available upon request.
The Front bedroom looks out onto one of the largest non-waterfront yards in town, and features a king size bed, two closets, two dressers, and two accent chairs. There is a door to an adjacent balcony "sun-room" with a huge window overlooking the side yard and trees. The balcony can also be accessed from the Middle bedroom, which features a queen-sized bed, closet, and dresser. The Third bedroom has two west-facing windows for great afternoon light, a full-sized bed with a full-sized trundle, a closet, and dresser. The bathroom upstairs is also west-facing, with a tiled counter-top, and a tub/shower. The linen closet is across from the Third bedroom, and is stocked with extra linens and blankets, additional sheets, and plenty of towels.
There is TV and an AppleTV (or a Google Chromecast) you may log into, and house-wide WiFi internet. The password is located on the refrigerator. A travel crib is available for guests with infants. Smoke/carbon monoxide detectors are placed throughout the house, and there are two fire extinguishers (one upstairs, one in the kitchen). A washer and dryer are located in the basement, should you need to do a load.
We have plenty of FREE off-street parking; a hot commodity in Bar Harbor! The yard is big; a bit shy of a half-acre. The house is in a residential neighborhood, but is only one lot removed from Main Street. Atlantic Avenue is not a through-street, so traffic is minimal. People do tend to walk down the street because it's pretty, and because the historical marker at the end of the driveway is part of a Town-wide history project.
If you want to explore Acadia, the best option is the Island Explorer shuttle system. They are FREE (donations accepted), have dedicated stops at all major points of interest, and the driver will stop and let you out along the way if you ask nicely. The shuttles have bike racks, but those fill up quickly, so it's good to be early. The shuttle "depot" is at the Village Green, next to the fire station.
On the hall table guests will find a book of local recommendations on everything from where to get the best breakfast, to where to rent bicycles or kayaks, and includes recommended hikes, and points of interest.
CONSIDERATIONS
If you want to smoke, please do so outside and away from the house. The house is adjacent to a working bed and breakfast; please try to observe quiet time after 9pm. Individuals with mobility issues may find the stairs up to the porch a challenge, as there is no handrail.
A bicycle touring company, Vermont Bicycle Tours (VBT), stores extra bicycles in the garage adjacent to the house. The guides occasionally come down the driveway to load/unload bikes, and we have a schedule of those occurrences listed in the house, for your information.

About the host
Hosted by Stephanie Striefel

I manage the rentals, though my brother and I own the house together. We grew up in both Bar Harbor and south Florida, and currently live in Carbondale, Colorado. I love the natural beauty of Acadia, and Maine, more generally. We come from a service industry background, and want you to have a great time and be comfortable while doing so. Plus, I LOVE sharing my knowledge of the National Park, the town, and all there is to see and do in and around Bar Harbor.
Why they chose this property
This property is not a recent purchase intended to turn a buck. My parents bought the house in the mid-1970s, and used it in the summers. My brother and I now own it.
The house has been rented on and off for the better part of four decades, but almost never in the winter. The house plays a huge role in my childhood memories, and for the five or so summers I lived in it as an adult. It is a comfy place, and very much in the center of everything.

What makes this property unique
Location, Location, Location.
Close to the action, but still quiet. FREE off-street parking, a HUGE yard, and it's an actual home when it isn't rented.
