Wonderful place. Very serene.
Great location. Close to town, walking distance to Mayberry Trading Post (which is a must). Speak to Peggy. She is full of mountain knowledge and local history.

thank you, Damien, for your review of our mountain place. It was a pleasure to meet you and your brother, to hear about the two of you, and to get your input on how we can make our spot better for guests. Plant more asparagus?
You all were great guests and left everything in such good order, we appreciate that.
A most beautiful place to enjoy time with family. The hosts provide a game room a lovely lake for swimming as well as paddle boats.and a wonderful swing that all the kids thoroughly enjoy. This is our 4th year at Meadows of Dan and all of us look forward to our next visit.
We needed this trip after the past year. We are both essential workers.
Our host Ann and Jerry we so friendly and helpful with tips for places to eat.
The lake cabin was just perfect for the two of us. The decor was old fashion and charming. The cabin faced the lake and provided fun when we took out the paddle boat. We sat out on the deck and enjoyed the sounds of nature and the reflections on the pond.
The beds were out of this world comfortable. We cannot wait to come back and do more fishing and exploring. We did find a few pieces of Fairy Stones when we visited the state park. The local Jane's Cafe had great food. We ate at the Stuart family Restaurant twice.
A natural setting with a lovely little lake (kayak-plus provided) - We stayed in the 2-bedroom cabin, which was quite comfortable. Mayberry Meadows is about 20 miles from Floyd, a nice drive actually, part along the Blue Ridge Parkway by Mabry Mill, with easy access to area wineries. Our hosts were great. We'd stay again.
My family (2 adults and 2 kids ages 9 and 11) enjoyed a long weekend at the lake cabin. It was everything we wanted! The cabin itself was cute, clean, and rustic. All the cooking utensils, etc. we needed were available, even towels to use for the lake. I was concerned that the fridge would be tiny because the description said mini fridge, but it was plenty big - apartment size, not dorm room size. :) I thought the description said there was washer/dryer, but it may have been up at the white house. No big deal, just something to note. We spent most of our time enjoying the lake. It was beyond glorious to have the lake to ourselves. We fished, toured around the lake in the paddle boat, kayak and john boat, and the kids even swam one day when it was warm enough. The only boat we didn't try out was the canoe. Life jackets, floats, etc are all right there by the lake to use. The kids also enjoyed playing ping pong and swinging on the swing, and we all enjoyed the fire pit at night. We had a blast! I wish we could have stayed longer.

Amy, we are so glad you enjoyed the time in the mountains! Especially that you could enjoy the lake and so much of the watercraft!
Thank you for taking such good care of the cabin and leaving it so clean! We hope you'll come back again, maybe in warmer weather!
Have a safe and healthy fall,
Ann
This retreat was a getaway for friends in education before starting our school year in an unprecedented manner. We were not able to travel like we usually do and looked forward to this weekend. The cabin was very cute and suited our needs for the 2 night stay. The grounds were great. No one was staying in the farm house so we had the common areas to ourselves. I would recommend if you're looking for the solitude we were looking for. The owner's brother was there and he was just awesome!! We brought our dog, a Labrador, and oh my goodness he had the most fabulous time with area to run freely and the water! The water flotation items were varied and plentiful.
My only negative comments would be on the accuracy of the listing. I was beyond shocked to see an additional fee for having more than 2 people for a cabin that says it can sleep 6. No where in the description does it state this stipulation. In addition, the calendar was not updated. It showed a 3 day weekend available, but upon booking we were told that it was only available for 2 nights. Finally, it says in the description that there is a minimum 3 days between guests, but we checked in the same day someone checked out. We were reassured the place was properly sanitized and I don't doubt it. I would love to stay again. The area is beautiful. The owner was very quick in getting back about questions. Overall- a good getaway.
Our stay at the cabin here was everything we hoped for and more. First, Ann and Jerry were great hosts-- the cabin is a separate unit and quite private, but Ann and Jerry are often around and happy to check how we're doing and offer tips on activities on property and in the area. The cabin comfortably sleeps four, but the day bed was our evening hang out spot and can easily sleep one more there in the living room. We had access to a charcoal grill right off of our deck (they may switch to a gas one which would be easier for most guests). From the back deck, all we could see is the lake, making it feel much more like a secluded private spot, which was nice. The various boats there were all great options to explore the lake, which itself is quite small but a good option for casual swimming and even fishing (mostly bluegill). Our kids loved having access to the game room for foosball, ping pong, and badminton. And the rope swing might have been their favorite feature of all. With so much to do on the property we had to pry them away to explore, but the location is also great for trips to nearby highlights on the BR Parkway, as well as nice walks or bike rides to nearer places like the Trading Post. We look forward to coming back very soon!
The cabin was all we expected and more. The setting was serene with easy access to a small lake, two docks, a jon boat, canoes and kayaks. My wife, stepdaughter and son-in-law stayed three nights in August and were rejuvenated and refreshed. The area is very quiet with easy access to local farmer's markets and vineyards. The Blue Ridge Parkway was less than a 1/2 mile away and not too far from major interstates, but far enough that we didn't even know they were there. The property owners were very gracious and responded rapidly to any questions or concerns prior to our trip. We met the owners as we were checking out and learned even more about the cabin and surrounding area. I'm sure we will stay at this cabin again.
We wanted to get away from everything and relax somewhere remote. The property is perfect, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stayed in the cabin which had a great view of the water and had many more provisions than I expected (TP, Paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc...). The cabin was the perfect size for the three of us and the bathroom had a very nice shower. The grill worked well and we had a good time trying out the canoe, paddleboat, and kayak. We also played ping pong, croquet, and badminton! We didn't really swim. We did hang out on the floating dock. First day we visited Nancy's Candy and we were able to order "curbside chocolate." Our trip to the nearby orchard was not something I would recommend for small children. It was on a hillside and you had to climb tall ladders to pick. We spent a couple of hours one day in Meadows of Dan and browsed the shops. One was closed on Tuesday (bummer.) There is so much beautiful scenery and I could imagine bringing a much larger group here for a wonderful time just relaxing together! Also would have gone to the winery nearby if it wasn't just me and the kids! Highly recommend!!!
We wanted a low key, low COVID-risk vacation. This worked out great. No unruly crowds, beautiful scenic area, plenty of room to relax. Restaurant availability is rather sparse, early in the week, but we were able to find good places when we wanted to eat out. The rest of the time we prepared our own meals at the cabin. We enjoyed our stay.
Great Location, Friendly Hosts, Close to Perfection Cabin
We enjoyed the cabin's proximity to the Parkway particularly the mill nearby. We spent lots of time on the deck and walking the dog in their big yard (he loved all the scents)...even got in a ping pong game. The hosts were friendly and helpful. I liked that the cabin had lots of space, small tables, hooks, etc., for travelers to park all the stuff they bring!

Thank you, Sharon and Gary, for staying with us and being such considerate guests. And thanks for the comments about what you liked about our place, we are always trying to find ways to make travelers have a better stay.
Glad you got a game of ping pong in - I plan to next time!

Perfect place for outdoor activities! My son loved fishing and playing in the swing. We all enjoyed kayaking, using the paddle boat, playing ping pong and foosball, and sitting on the dock just chatting it up while having lunch/dinner. While there, we also visited the Mabry Mill and Mount Airy.
We stayed in the cabin. No need to bring linens or towels. The kitchen has everything you need to cook or grill in the charcoal grill. If you had enough fun at the lake, you can always relax and enjoy the view and fresh air from the deck. To top it all off, the hosts were great! The only bad thing was not being able to stay longer. :-)
The place is paradise. Perfect for social distancing vacation. Everything was even better than the photos. What a great value. The lake is amazing. Owners make you feel like family. Super great vacation. Beautiful
The property was beautiful, and the white farmhouse was charming and very clean. Ann and Lawrence were very friendly and welcoming. We had a great time and would love to stay again!
What a wonderful find this cabin is! My husband, dog, and I really enjoyed our week in Meadows of Dan, we stayed in the cabin, a very charming and rustic (but very well appointed and comfortable) cabin. We loved the amazing back deck, the lake for swimming and paddling, and all of the great hiking nearby. The property is so quiet and beautiful. Ann was very helpful in our planning, answering questions and such, and her family was so welcoming. We were grateful to get away, and this was the perfect place!
This is our second June getaway in Meadows of Dan. Jerry and Ann, our hosts were ready and waiting for us. We love this peaceful farm. Our family members range in age from 4 t0 75 and we all found relaxation and fun and time for renewing our spirits during this difficult time.
Stepping out of our car brought me right back to my childhood. Wildflowers, rabbits, hummingbirds, butterflies are all there... and fish! I caught a fish there!! Loved being there and hope to visit in the Fall when the colors are supposed to be a.m.a.z.i.n.g. !!

We found this place at the last minute as our other weekend plans had been cancelled. We could not have asked for a more relaxing place to hang out for the weekend. Ann and David are great and we can’t wait to come back!
Ann and Beth were great and accommodating. Location was great. We were in town for a festival, would love to go back when we have more time to really enjoy the property and amenities near by.
My family actually owned this property in the very early 50's. We booked the property for this past weekend and had a lovely stay. The hosts, Anna and Lawrence had everything clean and nicely prepared for us. We had a delicious breakfast and our children as well as our grandchildren had such a good time. The property is quiet and pastoral and provided a wonderful family experience. We hope to return in the future.

Dear Jane and Bud,
We were indeed delighted to get the chance to meet you and your family, and hear of your experiences growing up on this property as it came into the modern world with electricity, heating, and many other updates. My 94-year old father was so delighted to get a morning with you to hear of your family's time in the home we now own - we were all so glad you decided to return to Mayberry Mountain Meadows and share your family, and your experiences, with us. I hope you will be back!
Anna and Lawrence really thought you were the most thoughtful and wonderful guests!
Best wishes,
Ann
We were looking for somewhere to really get away for a couple days and everything was perfect, from check in until checkout. The kitchen in the new log cabin and outdoor grill made it very convenient, we were able to just relax on the deck while my sons swam in the lake and rode in the canoe. We were very close to the Parkway, Mabry Mill and some great hiking. The owners were also onsite and could not have been nicer and helpful. We will definitely be back!

About the host
Hosted by Ann Vernon
This mountain property has been in our family since 1976. It was an active Bed and Breakfast for 10 years, from about 1984-1994. The owners, Harold and Trudy Spangler, were from Greensboro, N.C., where he worked as a pediatrician for 30 years before they both retired to be a mountain couple, and eventually agreeing to be hosts of a B & B. 5 children and 13 grandchildren have their fondest memories sleeping, playing, and passing a cool summer day and evening on the lawn, hanging from the swings, swimming and boating, board games in the houses, seeing the fall foliage in the autumn, and enjoying getting away from the city. There have been many memorable reunions and intimate weddings on the property. Our motto: unplug and unwind.
Why they chose this property
This property is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and leads to Roanoke, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, and many historic sites, including Mabry Mill, Rocky Knob, Floyd, Mt Airy, Galax, Abingdon (Barter Theater), Virginia Creeper Trail(biking), Fancy Gap, and Chateau Morrisette are close by for adventure and special events. New zipline not too far away. Stuart, and Fairystone Park, are also nearby.
What makes this property unique
Clean mountain air and water. All water from taps comes from underground spring water fed from our pumped, covered wellhouse. Absence of modern distractions, such as the telephone ringing and the chores of home. Time to read and enjoy the beautiful setting; stars brilliant in the night sky, sounds of birds and bullfrogs in the meadow and lake. Very close to major events in the summer and fall at nearby parkway and winery venues. Porches for sitting and rocking, decks for enjoying the lake, meadow and lawn for badminton and crocquet. Unplug from your busy home and work life to this quiet non-technological setting. Our motto is unplug and unwind. However, we have recently added DSL and have weak Wi-Fi on the property. We do not recommend relying on remote learning or telework on this property, but it can be possible, not guaranteed, if you bring your own hotspot.
