Charming, Sunny Home in Downtown Bar Harbor with Backyard: Sleeps 6, 3 Bedrooms

The Rusticator is a charming two story home from 1896. Named for the visitors to Bar Harbor in the late 1800s, The Rusticator is a lovely cottage located in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor. The Rusticator is our family home and available for rentals when we leave to explore other parts of the world.

This quaint property, on a quieter side street, is in walking distance to the sand bar, town beach, grocery stores, restaurants, The Abbe Museum and village green. Nicely appointed with hardwood floors and natural sunlight, The Rusticator has a spacious backyard with a lawn, garden and deck for outdoor grilling and dining.

There are three bedrooms upstairs two with QUEEN beds and third a KING bed. There is a well equipped open kitchen, dining room, mudroom and living room with a beautiful decorative fireplace on the first floor. There are 2 bathrooms (upstairs has a claw foot tub and basic stand up shower and downstairs with only a basic standup shower). Other amenities include a flat screen TV with DVD player, access to WIFI and Netflix, washer/dryer in the basement, dishwasher, microwave, gas BBQ and a backyard. We provide bedding, bath and beach towels. We have off street parking for 2 stacked cars in the back of our house. Permit parking is enforced between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday on our street.

Leave your car behind and walk to everything downtown, including whale watches & sea kayaking tours, shops and much more. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park offer visitors a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, boating, lake swimming, carriage road walks, horse back riding, deep sea fishing! Sail on the Margaret Todd, take a Jackson Lab visitors tour, enjoy tea and popovers at the Jordan Pond House, golf at KEBO a PGA top-rated course or play tennis at the town courts. Kids activities include Sand Beach, miniature golf, the town green, Acadia Fun park and lots of ice cream shops!

We DO NOT have air conditioning, but two bedrooms have ceiling fans and we have various window and stand alone fans if it gets too hot.

Excellent Location

We really appreciated having a quick 10 minute walk to the restaurants of Bar Harbor where parking can be sparse. The house has a nice kitchen and we enjoyed the screened in porch and large back yard. The house is on a quiet street. Communication with Ursula was excellent and she gave us great restaurant recommendations. I would highly recommend staying at this property.

Just right in Bar Harbor

We stayed here for a week in July and found the house to be exactly what we needed to make our vacation great. I can't say enough good things about Ursula - she made us feel so welcome, was very forthcoming with all our questions, and really went above and beyond as a host. The house itself is comfortable, well appointed, well located (close to everything but not on Main St where it's too busy). I would definitely recommend this rental.

Wonderful house and location

Four of us stayed at this property and found it to be the perfect place for our Bar Harbor vacation. The deck and yard are lovely to use when it’s nice outside. The kitchen was fully stocked with all necessary equipment for us to cook in some nights. The house itself was beautiful and well-furnished as well as extremely clean. We enjoyed being walking distance to downtown and biking distance to Acadia. Zero complaints, would stay again in a heartbeat and highly recommend!

Absolutely Wonderful

This Bar Harbor home is truly wonderful. We could park the car at the house and walk to shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor. It was so great to come back to this home after a day of hiking. All the amenities you need are there. Very clean and well furnished. Tucked away on a side street - it was very quiet. Two full bathrooms was a real plus. The deck was great for morning coffee and afternoon chats. Highly recommend!!

The property at 2 Myrtle was wonderful for our family vacation. We had 2 grandparents, 4 children (30 somethings) and one grand child (3 yrs.). The property has comfortable beds, water pressure in the baths, great kitchen for cooking and access to the town of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Very nice, charming, and super clean.

Property was super clean. We walked to Bar Harbor. The neighborhood was quiet, and seemed very safe. Our host gave us reasonable, easy to follow instructions along with many thoughtful tips to make our visit more enjoyable. We appreciate the gift card to local bakery the host left for us. It was my first Vrbo rental and it much surpassed my expectations. Many thanks.

Perfect location in beautiful Bar Harbor

The rental process was seem less and property as described. Everything we needed was there. We didn’t spend much time at the house but when we did there was a nice outdoor deck and grilling area. We were walking distance to Main Street and docks and supermarket and a 5 min drive to Cadillac Mt and tons of outdoor activities. Parking is tricky at the house but we never had a problem. Property manager was very nice and accessible.

Great in town location on quiet street

Everything as advertised! Nice games and toys for kids. Front porch perfect for kids playing on their own. Nice common spaces for interaction. Washer dryer super helpful to have. Walking to breakfast a super plus for days we didn’t cook. Amenities were quite nice including Meyers soaps and pleasant bath products. Many cookbooks available although if you plan to cook you need to plan ingredients ahead (spices, etc). Pots and pans in good condition. Knives good and nicely out of way in drawer. As is common in older homes, just remember to watch the ceiling when coming downstairs if you’re over 5’9”!

Excellent location in nicely outfitted house but it is called Rusticator, not Hulls Cove

We had a great time in Bar Harbor staying in Ursula's house for our family vacation. The house is very comfortable and child-friendly and our 4 and 2 year old grandchildren had fun playing with the toys that were thoughtfully provided. The house is full of a wide variety of books, so if you are a reader, you will find something of interest . There was also,a $10 gift certificate for us to use at Mount Desert Island ice cream! The house is within walking distance to anywhere one might want to go in Bar Harbor. Although we did not meet Ursula, she was very quick to respond to my emails and provided information about the area.

Great house!

The Rusticator is a perfect house for a family vacation in Acadia. It is a short walk to all of the shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor, and a short drive to Acadia. You can even walk from the front door of the house to the top of Cadillac Mountain (only 4 miles away) by hopping on the Great Meadow trail that is about 1/2 mile away. The house is clean and well maintained, and the kitchen is perfect for cooking large meals with room for everyone to help out.

Perfect base for exploring Acadia and Mt. Desert Island

Loved this house. I wanted a base for day trips into Acadia, combined with evening strolls around Bar Harbor. It's perfect for that. Conveniently near a grocery store, nice kitchen, loved the deck with grill: we grilled and ate on deck several times, with fresh fish from a local fish shop and greens and herbs from the garden. Walking distance from many nice restaurants for evenings when you don't want to cook (and it's a big plus not to have to hunt for parking in Bar Harbor in July at dinner time). The owners have put a lot of thought into making it wonderfully comfortable, down to small details like nice soap in bathrooms and Sunday NY Times. They leave a book with great suggestions of things to do, we tried some of them (like sand beach in Seal Harbor and Naturalist's Notebook bookstore in Northeast Harbor) and it got us out to places on the island we'd never been to before and that we thoroughly enjoyed. We tried Mt. Desert Ice Cream because they left us a $10 gift certificate and it was the best ice cream I've had in my whole life (try plum sorbet, lime/cucumber sorbet, Earl Grey ice cream). Four big comfortable bedrooms, everything could not have been nicer. I would go back in a heartbeat.

We loved the Rusticator

The place was perfect for our two families. We had 4 kids (2-6 years old) and 4 adults. We were able to get in a little early and when we arrived the place was spotless and in great condition. Lots of toys and a perfect fenced in yard for the kids to play in. The house is located right down town and a couple minutes walk from all the good spots. We look forward to staying there again in the future.

We are a family of three transplanted to Bar Harbor from Portland, ME in search of a simpler life style. My husband is a faculty member at the College of the Atlantic, our son attends our local school and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker working as a consultant with a local non profit teaching mindfulness and yoga to children and providing support to educators in their classrooms. We love traveling and though we miss a beautiful time of year on Mount Desert Island (MDI), we explore other parts of the United States and world. We love the outdoors and spend time camping, hiking, walking, canoeing, skiing and biking. When we lived in Portland, ME we would come to MDI in the Fall for long weekends and hike in Acadia National Park. It was great getting away and playing in the park, sailing with friends and trying new places to eat. One visit I wondered out loud that it would be nice to live here...ten years later it happened!

Why they chose this property

We love living in walking distance to most all of our needs. Our home has wonderful sunlight and is on a side street in downtown Bar Harbor. We have a spacious backyard. It's an older home with a few charming features.

What makes this property unique

Buying a home in downtown Bar Harbor was not easy! After looking at many, many properties, we selected The Rusticator for its convenience and walkability. We walk to most everything: our elementary school and playground, work, shopping, the green, restaurants, ice cream, yoga classes and the movies. The open concept kitchen filled with natural sunlight was perfect. The backyard with its spacious lawn, deck and garden is unique in downtown Bar Harbor and has been great for outdoor grilling and essential for our son and his friends. The decorative fireplace and stairwell also caught our attention.
