Lots of great comms with the owners.House is two seperate buildings right next to each other - nice bit of seperation from the kids who are in with the playroom/garage so noise kept away from kitchen and lounge.A wee bit hard to find the property in the dark first time around, fine after that when you know what to look for.Surrounded by wildlife - from cockerel crows in the morning to owls at night, its bird lovers delight.Good centre for everything, but as noted in the description, not walkable to town as you would have to go via the main road with no footpath, but its a short drive so not an issue.

Fantastic Family Getaway

We loved our time at Matapouri—such a great beach for families! The house was perfect for us; the kids had a blast playing table tennis, and we enjoyed relaxing on the outside decks, watching the sun set.

Fantastic bach located a very short drive to Matapouri beach. We loved our stay here and especially enjoyed how peaceful it was being surrounded by bush.

We were in Matapouri for a wedding. This property was a nice, reasonably secluded property surrounded by bush, less than a 5 minute drive to the beach at Matapouri and walks. Great place to relax after a busy day. Photos are very accurate.

Amazing Vacation

Classic rural north getaway close to amazing beaches

Setting surrounded by beautiful quiet nature our stay was fantastic.Classic rural property feel. We enjoyed exploring the local beaches. Sandy bay is a must visit about 8 min away. Great surfcasting spot, kids were thrilled to be catching kahawai and snapper for dinner. Graeme is very responsive and helped resolve a couple issues we had. Can hear the sound of waves crashing at high tide at night it’s absolute bliss.

A quiet little slice of paradise

Our second time back and have booked for next year. Percent spot for our family. Good space to spread out. Quiet, no neighbours close by. We had spectacular weather the whole week; beautiful crystal clear swims at both Matapouri Bay and Whale Bay, a 5 min drive away. Loved being up on hill and looking down into the valley in the evening. Excellent communication with host. Clean and tidy! Loved it!

New years break

We loved the rural setting. So relaxing and the birdlife especially the Muscavo ducks and friendly roosters. Would definitely recommend. Beaches closeby. Heaps to do. Owners very easy to get hold off. Only suggestion maybe some hooks or shelves for storage. Other than that a very nice beachy vi be. Will be back for sure.

Clean and nice

A clean and cosy house in a peaceful location. We enjoyed having a BBQ, a ping-pong table there and ducks and chickens coming over. I would recommend taking your frying pan and a knife as those are not great there. Short drive to beautiful beaches. We had a 1 yo with us and we had to watch him everywhere. We were ok with that as we had enough adults but it is something to consider if you are taking a small child.

Cozy!

A very nice 'bachy' place to spend a few days, and really nice to have an owner so available by text! The location in Matapouri is lovely and the beach/headland is spectacular. My kids loved having ping-pong in the garage, and everyone liked trying to make friends with the neighbourhood chickens! It's ideal spot for people who want a peaceful week at the beach to relax, kayak, and read, but it's worth knowing that there's very little in the immediate area for kids to do. You also need to drive back to Whangarei (25-30 mins) to do a proper food shop. Something for families to be aware of is that only one of the three bedrooms is inside the main area with the lounge/kitchen; to access the other two bedrooms you need to go out through a ranch slider. Fine for older kids/teens, but maybe not ideal for young 'uns. These rooms get stuffy but are easily freshened up by opening the main garage door! Within a few minutes, the airflow had cleaned out the heaviness and they felt great. For people with low-slung cars, you might struggle to get all the way up the driveway. Wasn't a problem for us to have to walk an extra twenty meters, but folks with mobility issues might struggle to get suitcases up and in!
