We loved our stay at this cabin. The location is great, and it’s a very short walk to anything at Montreat or drive to Black Mountain! The bedrooms are comfortable & the host was very helpful. We’d definitely stay here again!

Thank you for your kindness, care and shared enjoyment of our Montreat home.
Grateful to God for the restoration after Hurricane Helene.
We came for a week with multiple families and had a great time! The house was well stocked and clean. The beds were comfortable. The location cannot be beat. Thanks for a great stay!
The layout & location of this house is perfect for our family. We stayed here last year for one week but this year we stayed 2 weeks! Hoping next year works out for 2 weeks again.

We hope it works to host you again,
Summer blessings in the Lord!
We had a great week in Montreat. The house worked out so well, and we loved sitting out on the beautiful screened in porch. It was in easy walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go. Thank you!
This was our second time staying at this Montreat home. We loved it. You can walk to everything in Montreat and downtown Black Mountain is a 5 minute drive.
We loved our second stay in the Spanglers’ lovely home! Perfect location for kids near the playground. The large screened porch is perfect for puzzles, games, and reading on rainy days and evenings. Well-appointed kitchen made making our own meals very easy. We hope to come again!
This house was a great fit for our group of nine that was in Montreat for a conference — super conveniently located near Anderson Auditorium! It would’ve been tight if we’d had the full bed capacity of 15, but our group was just the right number to fit comfortably around the big dining table. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking your own meals, etc.

Thank you for appreciating our home and using it for good purposes. May the good memories of worship and Christian fellowship continue to bless you all throughout 2022.
We loved the location because our grandchildren could walk to the playgrounds and clubs. The house had a great and convenient lay-out. Beds were comfy. The kitchen worked well for all. The screened-in porch was a favorite place.

MacKays, We are grateful for your kindness, care for our home and good communication. Glad you can appreciate Montreat and share it with your grandchildren like we do. Blessings!
I've stayed here several times now with my campus ministry group for our annual conference at Montreat. The kitchen is well stocked for group cooking and eating, and the living spaces work just right for fellowship time in the evenings. Can't been the super quick walk to Anderson Auditorium, either!

Thank you Allison, for respecting our home. Praise God for a beautiful place to retreat in the mountains. I hope the conference honored our Lord Jesus Christ.
After 20 years, we returned to Montreat with my two daughters & grandchildren. The location, size & layout of the house was perfect for our family. All the activities were within walking distance. When any questions arose the owner was prompt in her response. We hope to return for 2 weeks next year!
This is a beautiful home and very close to Anderson Conference Center. The owners make pottery and the pottery is in full use in the kitchen. Beautiful home with art work of all kinds and scripture everywhere. Large porch. The host are very gracious and helpful.

Thank you for your kindness and care for our home. Praising God for his beautiful creation and good renters.
May the Lord Jesus continue to be glorified. ❤️✝️
We had a wonderful time with extended family! There was more than enough space for all 12 of us. The location near a park and Montreat trails was excellent for both our hikers and our Littles. Kitchen was spacious with plenty of seating. (And I loved the dishes!) Laura provided great suggestions for things to do in the area. We would definitely go back!

Thank you for your kindness, for help with the laundry and for taking good care of the house .
God bless you!
We love staying here - the proximity to the center of all Montreat activites is amazing - kids can walk freely and experience the joy of ice cream at The Huck, playing on the playground, pickleball or tennis and so much...more. The house itself is super comfortable and well-appointed and the porch!! It's a dream to sit out there with a book and the backdrop of the mountains. Thank you for this "home away from home."
Your Montreat home was perfect for our group! What a blessing to be so close to everything, yet have an amazing time and space for respite. The large screened porch was our favorite! Thank you so much for your hospitality!
We decided last-minute to try to rent a house instead of camp bc of bad weather predicted, and we couldn't have been more blessed in finding this wonderful home! It had the perfect amount of space for our group of 3 adults, 2 teens, and 6 kids. And the location right next to the playground and creek was ideal for kids. We especially enjoyed the large kitchen table that fit all of us; the beautifully homey handmade touches of pottery, tile, and quilts; and the roomy screened-in porch perfect for reading, games, and puzzles. We hope to come back!
Perfect place for our retreat! Loved how accessible it was to all the great things Montreat has to offer. Our groups favorite place was the screen porch. And the heated floors where a nice touch for cold mornings. We loved our stay.

Thank you for your kindness. Praise God your retreat went well and you enjoyed your winter stay in our home. You were good and respectful guests.
May the Lord bless Destiny and your church.
Carry on in faithfulness for Jesus’ sake.
Great location. Beds could use an update to make them a little more comfortable, same with couches but we didnt spend a ton of time at the house so it wasnt a huge issue. AC did not work but owner came out and made the situation right, so for that we are very appreciative.

About the host
Hosted by Laura Spangler
Tom and Laura Spangler, owners, have been traveling to Montreat their whole lives. They live in Winston-Salem, NC and are blessed with four children and four grandchildren. After fifteen years vacationing in the house next door, they bought and renovated 316 Texas Rd as a place to enjoy their growing family on vacation. They are grateful to the Lord for providing such a beautiful retreat, and are eager to share the blessing with others.
Why they chose this property
Tom, Laura, and their children have always loved Montreat. Their biggest attraction was the family they'd meet here, but they also love relaxing, hiking, and enjoying all that Western North Carolina has to offer. Tom picked up his favorite hobby of pottery at the nearby Currie Craft Center, and Laura's parents have a vacation home just down the road. When 316 Texas Rd became available, it seemed like a perfect opportunity, and after extensive renovations (including the addition of the beautiful screened porch), they opened their new getaway on Thanksgiving 2014.
What makes this property unique
It is hard not to like the house's special touches: heated tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom, a mountain view out of the master bedroom, the tranquil screened porch, rich wood trim, and attractive granite countertops. But the best feature of all is the people that stay there. We are sure you will find, just like we do, that whether for a romantic retreat or a family reunion, this house will be the perfect setting for sweet and lasting memories!
