♡ "space for several small families with a wide age range" — Amber Rose, Jun '26
» 1min ➔ Main St » 15min ➔ Ski Cooper » 25min ➔ Copper Mtn » 12min ➔ Turquoise Lake
Hot Tub: Please note that the hot tub is shared between the GM Main House and GM Attic when both units are occupied.
The GM Main and The GM Attic are units in the Governors Mansion.
The Space:
The Governor's Mansion was built in 1881 and expanded in 1893 by Governor Jesse McDonald. It splits into 3 lockable units — each with its own living space. 6 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, sleeps 14.
➔ MAIN UNIT (Bedrooms 1–3 + Office)
Bedroom 1 — King bed, en-suite bath with jetted tub, Smart TV, electric fireplace
Bedroom 2 — Queen bed, Smart TV, electric fireplace
Bedroom 3 — Queen bed, Smart TV, electric fireplace
Private office — monitor, keyboard, mouse
➔ PARLOR UNIT (Bedroom 4)
Bedroom 4 — Queen bed, en-suite bath, Smart TV, private living room with electric fireplace and private kitchen
➔ ATTIC LOFT (Bedrooms 5–6)
Bedroom 5 — 2 bunk sets (4 single beds), Smart TV
Bedroom 6 — Queen bed, Smart TV
Private living room with electric fireplace + kitchenette
1. 3 lockable units — families get their own space within the group
2. Half a block from Main Street — walk to dinner
3. Pool table + sauna + 20 games — snow-day insurance
2 CONS:
1. An 1893 building that lives like one — period lighting runs warm, not bright
2. No A/C — Leadville rarely needs it at 10,152 ft
Guest Access:
The entire mansion is yours — all three units, the sauna, billiard room, kitchen, backyard, and laundry. Smart-lock self check-in, with free parking on the premises and on the street.
Before arrival you'll receive an email link to our digital guidebook — it's the only place check-in details live, and it's where pet registration is handled, so please open it before you travel.
The Neighborhood:
You're one block off Harrison Avenue in Leadville's National Historic Landmark District — restaurants, coffee, museums, and shops are a half-block stroll, so a group of 14 never has to carpool to dinner.
From this corner of town:
- Ski Cooper (15 min), Copper Mountain (25 min), and Vail (47 min) for lift days
- The Mineral Belt Trail for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and summer rides
- Turquoise Lake (12 min) for paddling, fishing, and shoreline sunsets
- Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive trailheads (about 26 min) — Colorado's two highest peaks
- Leadville's mining district, ghost towns, and Mosquito Pass for history and 4x4 days
Getting Around:
Most of town is walkable from the door — Main Street is half a block away. Free parking at the house and on the street fits a multi-car group, and in winter the free Lake County shuttle and Summit Stage connect Leadville to Copper Mountain and the Frisco Transit Center.
Other Things to Note:
License #001270
Check-in 4:00 PM | Check-out 10:00 AM | Max occupancy 14
Pets: yes, 2 max — $100 pet fee, registered through our guidebook link. Pets may not be left unattended; doggy daycare options are nearby.
Hot Tub: Please note that the hot tub is shared between the GM Main House and GM Attic when both units are occupied.
The GM Main and The GM Attic are units in the Governors Mansion.
Stays over 15 days include a required mid-stay cleaning (fee applies).
No A/C. Elevation is 10,152 ft — hydrate on day one and pace the kids; altitude sickness is real and not refundable.
This is an 1893 building in the Rockies: period lighting, vintage wear, and the occasional critter come with it. After heavy snow, watch for snow-removal signs on street parking.
Interaction with Guests:
We're locals and a text away — typical response under an hour. With three units and fourteen guests there's always a question or two; ask early, ask often. We'll check in once after arrival, then leave your crew to it.

Wonderful stay at this charming house. The host's communication was excellent- very quick responses to questions and clarifications. We loved the house- it is quirky but so charming. Within an hour, we were trying to come up with more dates for another stay here! So much comfortable space to spread out. Kitchen was well-equipped. Easy walking to the main street- coffee, cute shops, restaurants. Short drive to grocery store. We will be back!

Seven team leaders for a youth leadership event stayed here for a weekend. The house was large enough to allow each of us our own bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen had every utensil we required. Quiet and spacious.

We enjoyed our stay. The road construction right behind the house was very loud and they started early in the morning. The grass also needed to be mowed. There are some lights that need new bulbs. Wonderful location!

Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed your stay and the location. We apologize for the noise from the road construction and the early start. The advise said their working hours is from 8am-5pm. We'll address the lawn maintenance and replace the light bulbs. We hope to welcome you back soon!

Loved the house but needs improvements
I believe better communication is needed with this property. I usually get information about check in 2 weeks before I arrive. In your instructions please let people know you will conact them with 24 hours.
More cooking utensils would be nice, skillets, measuring cups, mixing bowls, etc: better instructions with the tvs and the heat in the various rooms would be a plus. Communication between cleaning and maintenance could benefit both. Light bulbs needed to be replaced, dishwasher did not drain properly, outlet plates were broken and needed to be replaced.
Other than what was mentioned above the house was great for our family.

Hi Charlese,
Thank you for the feedback! We've taken your comments seriously and have since updated the kitchen to have more utensils and full sets of cookware, dining plates, etc. Because we have keyless entry for safety, the check-in instructions and codes are sent out 2 days prior to arrival. You can always look up the address of the property to plan your route once booked as the address becomes immediately available. We hope to host you again in the future and show you all of the upgrades we made!
Nice area for our group. We could be together or go to our separate area.

About the host
Hosted by Traverse Hospitality
We (Alex & Nadim) are grateful to be able to offer an outdoor focused community to our guests up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. We both love rock climbing, hiking, biking, skiing and spending pretty much all of our free time outside; we were even crazy enough to run the Leadville 100. Our mission is to help as many people as possible discover the magic of the mountains...which is why we founded High Rocky Homes!
We're doing our best to make real estate and mountain access more affordable for EVERYONE!
For our real estate clients, we give half of our commission back to our buyers and sellers, saving them an average of $5,000. This helps our clients furnish a new home or simply reduces the high closing costs associated with buying or selling real estate.
For our property management clients, we offer a service that has no restrictive contracts, a lower commission model and superior performance. This means that more booking revenue goes back to our clients to offset the costs of their mountain homes.
For our guests, we've been working hard to offer more lodging accommodations that are clean, affordable, and full of great amenities set up for active people who want to enjoy the mountains for short or longer term stays!
