Enjoy a countryside walk, right from your doorstep, down into nearby Staithes and joining onto the Cleveland Way as it snakes across cliff tops and down into hidden coves and bays. The Gothic town of Whitby is just 13 miles away and is famous for its links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It offers a hectic schedule of festivals and events all year round including the Goth Weekend, Folk Week and its own Regatta, as well as cobbled streets full of independent shops and traders. The Whitby Abbey towers over the town and can be reached by climbing the famous 199 steps and affords fantastic views of the town and out to sea. There are plenty of traditional dog friendly pubs with live music, tea rooms and delis, as well as some fantastic places to eat. Why not catch a tourist boat out to sea in search of minke whales and seals, or enjoy a trip on the steam train that snakes its way through the National Park into Heartbeat Country. There are plenty of seaside towns and villages to explore along this dramatic coastline, or take a trip to the walled city of York with its many attractions. There is so much to see and do in the area, and Blackgill Lodge is the perfect romantic retreat to base yourself from. Beach 3 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub/restaurant 2½ miles.
