About this property

Cosy Cottage in Staithes. North Yorkshire Moors Coast. Weekend Breaks Available

Set right in the heart of the old smuggling & fishing village of Staithes on the beautiful North Yorkshire moors coast. Located just yards from the sea and the beach is this cosy & pet friendly cottage that sleeps 4. Located just a few yards from the nearest pub that serves lovely food. If you prefer a night in then why not enjoy a lovely candlelit bath and a glass of wine whilst enjoying 1 of the many DVD's that are available at the cottage. There is lots to keep the kids entertained in the village with the rock pools full of crabs to the small sandy beach for playing & dog walking. Inside the cottage is a selection of games & toys for the kids along with a good choice of DVD's for both the kids & adults too. Free Wifi is also provided in the cottage along with a selection of books & maps to enable you to discover the beautiful North Yorkshire moors and coastline at your leisure.
The master bedroom has a double bed and the 2nd bedroom has a single with pull out single bed. A travel cot & highchair are also available at no extra cost. The cottage has a secure enclosed back yard ideal for sitting out during the summer months but also for pets and storing bikes and canoes etc. The cottage has a bath with shower over however due to height restrictions in the bathroom it's only really suitable for kneeling or sitting under! There is a fully stocked kitchen with electric cooker & microwave and everything you would expect to find.
Ideally situated for exploring the Beautiful Yorkshire coastline by car or on foot. Excellent bus service to nearby Whitby and Middlesbrough and just a short drive to lovely Saltburn by the Sea.

Duvets and pillows are provided so it's just a king size duvet cover, sheets and pillow cases and then 2 single duvet covers, sheets and pillow cases for the 2nd bedroom that are required and your own towels (This is to minimize costs and try keep the rental cost of the cottage as low as possible and in response to previous guests preferences!) Should these arrangements cause you any difficulty then please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will do our very best to help out where possible!

There is no public parking in Staithes unfortunately. The floodlit council owned pay and display car park is just at the top of the hill a few minutes walk away however you are allowed to drive down to load and unload the car and there is a space just a few yards from the cottage where you can park up to do this. There is a car park permit for this car park provided free of charge for you and this will be fastened to the back of the cottage front door. Please display it on your dashboard during your stay and ensure that you park your car in the designated public area of the car park and not in the residents section. Please then leave the permit back at the cottage for the next guests when you leave.

The cottage keys will be provided for your arrival and details of where to obtain these will be emailed.
You can arrive anytime after 3.00PM and if you could vacate by 10.00 AM that would be great. (please advise if either of these times cause you an issue) The post code if you are using a Sat Nav is TS13 5DF. The cottage is right down at the bottom of the village on Barrass Square which is just a few yards from the Cod & Lobster pub. If you have any other questions at all regarding the village or the cottage then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Ideal position
Very small traditional fisherman's cottage. Ok for a couple of days we stayed longer but found the kitchen and bathroom awkward. The staircase doesn't have a bannister which could be an issue for people with mobility issues. Like all Staithes houses the stairs are steep. The cutlery, crockery and glasses were plentiful but the space to cook in is a struggle even for two people and it was a bit of a balancing act. There was more room upstairs but we found the bed uncomfortable and the pillows definitely need replacing. We didn't like the position of the bathroom in the sitting room. I hadn't noticed it stated in the property discription, otherwise I wouldn't have booked it. The yard isn't secure for dogs and wasn't nice to sit in. Being so close to the harbour this didn't matter to much but it was quite disappointing. It really could do with some money investing in it and some TLC. The carpets have seen better days, they are dark and difficult to hoover. This is evident all around the edges. All in all it would be ok for a couple of days, but I wouldn't book it again as there are some wonderful properties in the village where we have stayed before. The owners responded to questions quickly.

A two week stay
We have stayed at this property before and found it cosy and met most of our needs close to the harbour area. The kitchen is a bit small but has all the basic appliance's. Hot water pressure is lacking but water hot. The bathroom is functional but small. We had a problem with the shower which stopped working after the first week, it was reported but couldn't be fixed within our stay. Also the hot water basin tap sometimes was very difficult to turn off. Other than that a quiet area to stay at the bottom of the hill.

beautiful cottage at Staithes
The cottage was really nice, everything was clean, the double bed was very comfortable, there was everything that you could need really, just around the corner from the sea and the Cod and Lobster pub do lovely food at good prices. The only disappointing aspect but quite a big thing is that the cottage is advertised as having a log burner in the lounge, which it has got but unfortunately there was a note on it saying you couldn't use it something about the chimney, which was very disappointing as we were really looking forward to that and as we went in the middle of November we really needed the log burner to be working as there were electric radiators but they dry you out and make your nose sore and as soon as you switch them off it goes cold, so basically if you are planning a winter stay it's very cold without the log burner. I think it should be in the advertisement for the cottage that the log burner isn't allowed to be used as if we knew that the log burner wasn't working then I wouldn't have booked this cottage. It's a really shame as other than that it's a lovely cottage .
