Welcome to Walden! A place that combines the beauty of the natural world with the warmth of a modern cabin. Located on 50 acres or protected land along the historic Shenandoah River, Walden offers one of the most spectacular retreats in the valley.
Amenities include:

(The riverfront is solely for the use of our guests at Walden and Sundance, {VRBO#385043} Although Sundance and Walden share the riverfront, the two cabins are completely private from one anther.)

What a wonderful cabin. Our family of four stayed here very comfortably. We made memories that will never be forgotten. There’s so much to do with the fire pit, jacuzzi and river front access. It was exactly what we wanted in order to unplug and be in nature. It’s such a beautiful spot.

The property is wonderful, and the cabin has just what you need, nothing more and nothing less. The fields and river provide a variety of outdoor activities, and Walden was an overall perfect experience for our small family of 3.

Had a wonderful stay at the Walden. Found the cabin to be neat and clean. Check in process was simple with lock box and code provided just prior to arrival. The location feels secluded although there are neighbors you can’t see them and rarely hear them. The private spot on the river is perfect for fishing, floating and wading. Can’t wait to go back.

Quiet and comfortable

Property was clean and well maintained. Plenty of room for the family to spread out. Walk down to the river was easy and path was mowed. Hot tub could use some maintenance, the jets did not seem to be working to full capacity, but it was clean and relaxing.

Great Autumn Getaway

My husband and I have stayed at Walden several times and had another terrific visit. The fall leaves are beautiful addition to an already great view. Cabin is perfect private, quiet, peaceful place for us to getaway to. We've made many fantastic memories :-)

Solitude

This was our second visit to Walden and, as with the first time, it did not disappoint. We were there for 3 nights and had the property all to ourselves. It was very relaxing watching the river flow by slowly and the dogs had a blast playing in the field. Deer were everywhere in the morning and at dusk. We will be back again for sure.

A Great Place to Get Away From It All

This property offered a most outstanding place for us to stay and get away from it all. High points include the view from the hot tub, the wildlife viewing on the property and the most excellent access to the river. We definitely have this on our list of places to stay again.

Beautiful and secluded cabin, well kept and in great shape. Perfect walk to the river, straight out of a romance novel. Quiet woods and field, enjoy the night sky without any interruptions.

Very special spot

We had a really nice time at this cabin by the Shenandoah's south fork. (We were in the area to hike in Shenandoah NP.) At the property, we walked by the river with our dogs and enjoyed the peacefulness and the setup very much. There are thoughtful touches everywhere, from a fire pit to comfortable chairs to sit in and watch the river go by. Owner was really responsive and helpful. A special place.

Amazing location to relax and unwind.

Great spot to take your dogs for a walk and unwind by the river. Perfectly located between Lurray & Front Royal. Cabin has everything you need to relax and get away from life for a bit. Property is clean, well maintained, and help is only a message away if you should need assistance. They even have a river walk set up for the guests to help you unwind and enjoy the views along the Shenandoah river. In my opinion this property deserves more than 5 stars!

Great spot for a getaway

We really enjoyed coming out to Walden for the 4th of July! Great proximity to Shenandoah and beautiful scenery for us to enjoy. Very important to read the house rules beforehand and we did have to make some adjustments accordingly but nothing major! Just grab your sheets and towels and make a supply run to Luray and enjoy!

fourth return to Walden

I first stayed at the Walden cabin in December 2020, and it was just magical in the snow. I returned in 2021, 2022 and now in 2023. I like the chill and quiet of December for each trip. My dog and I love our thrice-daily walks to the river, and the hot tub is so relaxing before bed, breathing in the 35 degree air while poaching in the 100 degree water. And the millions of stars to be seen, far from the city lights. The cabin is just perfect for me. Spotlessly clean and nicely laid out. The kitchen could use a few more Corningware-type casseroles for heating up leftovers, though. Derek was immediately responsive when I had trouble negotiating the TV settings or with a few other questions, as he has been in the past. Looking forward to hopefully returning in December 2024!

Walden was completed in February 2013. This deluxe one bedroom cabin offers all the modern amenities set in a unique private setting on the Shenandoah River.

What makes this property unique

Walden is located on the historic Shenandoah River bordering 50 acres of beautiful open land. Wildlife abounds on the property. A mowed path takes you to the river where you will find a firepit, chairs and easy access to the water. Wade into the Shenandoah and cast a line for some of the best small mouth bass fishing on the east coast.
