About this property

Orton Hall, royalist suite

Orton Hall is a 17th Century Jacobean Manor House carefully converted into self-catering suites sharing a Great Hall and six acres of gardens with lawns, fountain and woodlands.

The one-bedroom Royalist Suite on the ground floor is full of period charm with a fully oak-panelled living room, imposing fireplace and a "secret door" through the bookcase to the rest of the apartment.

The Royalist Suite can accommodate two in the bedroom in a king-size bed with space for a cot to sleep a baby or toddler. Comfortable folding beds are available for up to 2 extra guests in the living room.
The bathroom is separate to the bedroom with WC, bath with shower over & sink. The kitchen has a cooker with hob, grill and oven, fridge with ice compartment, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and full complement of cooking equipment and utensils. In the living room there is a large TV with BT Vision and DVD player together with an extensive library of books & DVDs, sofa seating for 4 and a dining table in the bay window.

The Royalist Suite is fully self-catering apartment but you will find a complimentary starter supply of coffee, tea, milk, sugar & biscuits. The suite is also stocked with consumables including washing up liquid, hand wash, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, tinfoil, toilet rolls, salt & pepper & cooking oil.

There is a washing machine & tumble dryer in the communal laundry room. Both are coin-operated and accept £1 per load.

Towels & linen are included, as is complimentary membership to the North Lakes Spa in Penrith for the duration of your holiday where you can use the gym and heated indoor pool or relax in the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. You can also book treatments or massages at extra cost.

The communal Great Hall has a large fireplace, pool table & baby grand piano and is a great space for relaxing. If you don't feel like cooking, the local village pub, only 300 metres away, serves food and many good restaurants are in easy reach of Orton Hall by car.

The Royalist Suite at Orton Hall offers a period getaway for your short break in atmospheric surroundings in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Located in the Eden Valley within the Yorkshire Dales National Park but on the doorstep of the Lake District and all its charms, it offers a perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of England on foot, by car or by bicycle.

Great Historical Home
Lovely environment, and beautiful gardens. Very well located for travel to surrounding areas of interest. Had everything we needed and enjoyed walking the bridle paths. The George Hotel great for dinner. Just make sure you have change for the washer and dryer if you need them!

NOT QUITE WHAT WE EXPECTED
If you'relooking for a smaller version of Downton Abbey, this is not it. While quite comfortable, there are a number of drawbacks. The smell of mould in the bathroom is very unpleasant. This was the most expensive place we've stayed in this holiday, and to find we were expected to pay to use the washing machine and dryer was notacceptable, particularly as the washing machine smelled of mould.

Lovely Stay
Lovely stay in a lovely house. Area was beautiful, good proximity to Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Just off Motorway but far enough away to not notice it. Really quaint property, loved the bookcase hidden doorway. Lots of books, dvds etc for use. Milk, cookies, tea, coffee etc provided. Handy location to charge our electric vehicle at Tebay services.
