Absolutely loved our stay at Orton Hall. It had everything we wanted and more. Having already stayed before 8 years ago it was lovely to go back. Situated in a beautiful place with easy access to the lake district. Suite had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend.
Delighted you enjoyed your stay Pauline. Please don't leave it another 8 years before you come and visit us again!
Perfect place to solve a mystery!
The secret bookcase door was enough to make me love the place, but Orton Hall and its grounds are just beautiful! The great Hall area is shared between all the self catering suites, so you spend your evening playing snooker or chess (we had the whole place to ourselves both nights we used the common area) and it has the classic sort of English Manor house feel and decor that would appeal to fans of Agatha Christie or PG Wodehouse. If I were more organized, I'd rent the whole place out for a murder mystery party! We ate our breakfasts in the bay window, watching bunnies gambol across the front lawn and listening to the fountain burble. Would definitely return!
Wonderful stay - loved the bookcase. Great setting and village. Thank you for sharing this amazing property with us
Thank you for your lovely comments Sharon. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Please do come and stay again soon!
Brilliant location and property.
5 mins walk from the local village, a cafe, shop and pub. Nothing more needed. Quiet location and lovely property with excellent grounds. Great to make use of the communal lounge with pool table, chess board and piano.
Wonderful to stay in this historic hall, with so much character. Enjoyable place to stay for myself and my daughter, with great garden, and appreciated being able to play pool and play the piano. It's a reasonable journey to get into the hearts of the Lakes, but we knew that before we came to stay.
We did have some issues, which were disappointing but didn't spoil our stay. Stephanie forgot to send us the key code (but quickly resolved) and forgot our request to use the folding bed, and there were problems and delays in getting the bedding to us. That said Stephanie was always prompt in responding by email/text.
Graham, thanks so much for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and apologise for my admin error which meant a delay on your arrival but I hope it didn't spoil your enjoyment and that you will come and stay with us again.
Grand apartment in a lovely historic house.
We stayed for 4 nights in the Royalist apartment. The main house is fantastic, including the Great Hall with pool table and a piano, and the apartment itself is beautiful, with panelled walls and ceiling in our living room. The decor was nicely done in the living room and bedroom; and we liked having lots of books and games on the bookcase (that has its own secret!). The kitchen (bin has a broken lid) and bathroom were fine, but the decor/fittings in the bathroom need some TLC. There were far too few hangers in the bedroom, and the knob on the wardrobe needs fixing. This apartment would be cold in the winter, I think, as of course there's no central heating. We just about stayed warm enough- the storage heaters weren't up to much, sadly, but we used the electric radiator (having two would be better) too. Sorry to go home!
Hello Louise, thank you for taking the time to write a review and for identifying things we can put right - always very helpful. So glad you enjoyed your stay and I hope you'll come back and visit us again soon.
