About the host
Hosted by Michelle, Dakota Pangle
Mary and Ken Pangle were born and raised in Hot Springs, NC and are active members of their local church. As owners of Pangle’s Construction, LLC, Mary and Ken are involved in road and bridge construction, site development and property management, as well as the River Lodge Log Cabin riverfront rentals. The Pangles operate a sawmill across from their home on Meadow Fork Rd., where they produce custom lumber, including the materials used in building their two riverfront log cabins — The Rock and The Rose.
While Ken’s out on the job, Mary juggles the joys of motherhood and caring for their home with the various office duties of the construction and cabin rental businesses — answering the phones, doing the bookkeeping, reservations, and managing the web site. In addition, Mary oversees the cabin housekeeping, so she still enjoys spending time on the family farm.
Discover the beauty of Hot Springs — take a relaxing vacation at the River Lodge Log Cabins. As lifetime residents, Mary and Ken know firsthand what a great place Madison County is to work and play, and they look forward to sharing it with you.

Why they chose this property
We built these cabins on this piece of property that my grandparents owned. This is a way of being able to keep this property in the family and for the family to enjoy and remember the good old times. I spent a lot of time here and this place is so dear to my heart.
What makes this property unique
Stroll across the lawn to our riverside deck, looking back to enjoy the sight of the mountain rising behind your log cabin, its white rocks glowing in the sun (or the moonlight!).
Sit by the river with the light sparkling on the water as the wind rustles the leaves, watch the cows graze and drink along the opposite bank, and wave to the rafters as they come by.
As the sun fades over the river, everyone can enjoy a good meal (fresh trout, perhaps?) cooked on the gas grill and a well-deserved soak in the hot tub. Try to stay awake long enough to watch the stars come out — the Milky Way can put on a big show up here!
Enjoy a scenic drive in any direction — we are surrounded by the National Forest and its natural unspoiled beauty.
Don’t forget your camera — you might miss a once-in-a-lifetime shot! Keep a lookout for the wildlife — deer, turkeys, rabbits, raccoons, foxes, mink, groundhogs, otters, and yes, even black bears.
Bald eagles, kestrels, hawks, great blue herons, ospreys, falcons, purple martins, cedar waxwings, ravens, swallows, indigo buntings, goldfinches and an array of waterfowl can be spotted while sitting right on the front porch of your log cabin.
The large sloping lawn is a great place to enjoy the wide-open spaces — whether playing badminton, Frisbee, croquet, throwing balls for the dog, or just taking in the view to the sound of falling water beside the pond. In the evening you can sit by the fire ring, gaze at the stars or catch lightning bugs, dependent on age and inclination.
Walking out the door of your log cabin you can enjoy rafting, tubing and trout fishing, an easy stroll or bike tour down River Road, hiking or backpacking on the Appalachian Trail.
Cyclists will enjoy our two nearby mountain bike courses, or a quick run downriver to the Paint Rock Corridor (and the Tennessee state line) and back. River Road is coaster-bike friendly!
So many choices!
