The highland hideaway was absolutely adorable! It was perfect for a short stay and would be happy to stay longer. It may be the cleanest vrbo I’ve stayed in. Very quiet and peaceful. Before you leave, give yourself the challenge of guessing how many Highland cows are in the property!
This place is wonderful! It’s remote enough to be far from the public but it is also close to go into town and enjoy some incredible food from the local restaurants. There are trails close to the home if you’re into hiking. The host was so kind to set fire and set up logs as seating areas for us. The biggest attraction was the camels! We were able to meet and feed the camels thanks to the host’s hospitality! We were able to try some of the camel milk soap which is some of the best soap I’ve used! We enjoyed every minute of our stay! The home was clean and felt very welcoming. The hot tub was also an excellent touch.

The little out of the city stay was nice. I appreciated the check in and options of feeding the animals was a warm touch. There are some things about the property that could use some better descriptions like the upstairs unit we stayed in had a window air conditioner on a sunny afternoon the coolest only one of the 3 rooms got was still in the 70s. Also there are gaps in the windows and we ended up killing 4 or 5 wasps that had gotten in (luckily we don't have a bee allergy). We could see where the nest is and there is little access to it so I understand why it would be expensive to remove, but caulking the windows may be cheaper? I also have a bad habit of comparing stays to other stays. I wish I would have known what type of cooking device was there, because with no cleaning supplies provided I could not cook during our stay because I wouldn't expect the host to do our dishes if that makes sense. Cozy yes, quiet yes, someplace I'd stay again yes! I would just come more prepared is all!
The house was very clean and loved that we could bring our dogs with us. The location is very peaceful. We loved our visit with the camels. The host is very responsive and friendly.

About the host
Hosted by Shareshten Senior
I grew up primarily in upstate New York in farm lands and found myself yearning for that peaceful and simple life with nature once again. I have been in Madison County NC since 2020 and it is just starting to feel like home.
Why they chose this property
The beautiful mountains, hiking trails, wildlife, and serenity have been the best parts of being here.
What makes this property unique
The livestock make my property unique: we have 4 camels which are down the road further past the rentals — you would not know they were there, but if you would like to meet them, you can arrange with your host a Meet the Camels experience complete with facts, pictures, and a chance to feed them their favorite treats. Advance booking for Meet the Camels is needed *only as available with farm staff and so long as regularly scheduled camel events don’t interfere.
